Nuclear Engineering and Energy Systems Engineering, UOIT is positioned as the premier training ground for future energy scientists and nuclear engineers. Enrolment is consistently increasing, responding to the demand for nextgeneration professionals to meet the needs of a growing industry, and workforce that it requires to remain globally competitive. These programs are complemented by Energy and Environmental options in UOIT s Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Science programs. DURHAM COLLEGE Energy-related programs at Durham College are designed to respond to the increased demand for knowledgeable graduates who are highly trained in the areas of energy utilization and energy use; climate control; renewable energy systems; and cost control. As a member of the Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII), Services and Innovation works with businesses and industry to provide practical solutions to technical and business challenges.
4 AGRI-BUSINESS Durham Region s climate and rich agricultural lands produce a diverse selection of commodities. Our skilled workforce, availability of serviced land and buildings, and established networks support growth in the agriculture and food-processing sectors. PRIME LOCATION Our climate and soil quality a high proportion of Class 1 and 2 facilitate the growth of the majority of crop types produced in Ontario. Durham Region for crop growth. Lake Ontario is a critical advantage for our agri-industry. The lake moderates the region s temperature and provides an excellent growing environment. 5 ADVANCED MANUFACTURING Durham Region has much to offer in all fields of manufacturing through a highly diversified, yet well-balanced manufacturing sector. This is highlighted by expertise in the automotive, metal fabrication, environmental, biological and life sciences, and aerospace sectors, as well as IT and engineered assembly systems. 77% of companies have operated in Durham Region for more than 10 years. This indicates solid long-term opportunities available in the region. Two-thirds of business owners have chosen to operate their enterprise in Durham because they can not only live here, but grow a successful business too. 63% of companies are adopting quality assurance software systems or practices. This local culture of high-quality production is a common trait among the region s businesses. 47% of companies are actively involved in research and development (R&D) activities.
