Following the acclaimed Problem Seeking methodology, the workshop participants will learn about goal setting, fact collection, concept development, needs such as area analysis, and problem definition statements. The workshop is available in three levels. Level one uses a residence as a case study; level two uses a corporate office project, level three focuses on real estate strategy. Rob and Samantha Sannella are recognized experts in the Problem Seeking methodology and have significant expertise in many different types of architectural projects Participants Suggested. $3,000. Materials Included. ($100 per person) 6) Facility Strategy Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Rob Sannella. Understanding the business goals for your client is critical for short and long term facility strategy. Materials Included. ($165 per person) 7) Design Advantage Workshop Hosted by Samantha Sannella. (Other instructors vary.) The Design Exchange has developed a unique seminar called the "Design Advantage Workshop" to help business and design professionals leverage the power of design to achieve specific organizational and social goals. The workshop is a one-day, intensive design leadership course created to connect participants to higher-level thinking about design and opportunities to partner with experts in Ontario's design sector. Attendees will learn how to put design to work for their business. Learn how to buy design services and lead design projects more effectively using a best value scoring evaluation. Get to know the key principles and best practices of good design leadership and management. Why do designers think differently? Examine using design as a strategic tool. How does it drive business? 40 Participants Suggested. $5,000. Materials Included. ($125 per person) 8) Unleashing Your Creative Power Hosted by Samantha Sannella. The Design Exchange has developed a seminar that teaches participants creative thinking. Connecting the seemingly unconnected leads to different ways of thinking which can lead to innovation. The reason for the confusion about creativity lies in the way we use

3 the word. Creativity is not a thing you possess; it is a way of doing something - a way of thinking. Because we are all able to think in creative ways, we are all potentially creative people. Fortunately, like most other skills, creative thinking can be learned. Participants benefit from several exercises to stimulate the mind in a fun interactive setting Participants Suggested. $2,000. Materials Included. ($100 per person) 9) Universal Design 101 Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Paola Poletto. One of the most important issues in design today is Universal Design. Designing for all ages and all abilities is essential in a world where the population is aging and persons with varying abilities living active lifestyles. Learn about the principles of Universal Design, the differences between Accessible Design and Universal Design. This seminar will use case studies as tools for learning. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 10) Universal Design 102 Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Paola Poletto. Building upon the first workshop, participants will learn specific design skills using a residence or an urban park as a design problem. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials Included. Prerequisite: Universal Design 101 ($140 per person) 11) Universal Design 103 Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Paola Poletto. Building upon the first two workshops, participants will learn specific design skills for community planning. Participants will take a local Toronto neighborhood and create changes based upon Universal Design principles. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials Included. Prerequisite Universal Design 101 & 102 ($140 per person) 12) Generational Marketing 101 Hosted by Samantha Sannella Generational Marketing is a tool used by many marketeers to predict consumer preferences with little or no market research. Samantha Sannella, a recognized expert in generational marketing, takes participants through consumer preferences according to generations: Matures, Boomers, Xers, Nexters. The workshop is interactive and includes a fun quiz, proposal writing workshop and absolute do not tips for designers and marketeers. 25 Participants Suggested. $4,000. Materials Included. ($160 per person) 13) Accessible Design - Must It Be Ugly? Hosted by Samantha Sannella Accessible Design does not equal ugly! Statistics show that one in every three persons is disabled at some point in their life. Break your leg skiing? Pregnant? Lower back-ache? Most homes do not accommodate residents during these phases, and in fact, people with disabilities (temporary or permanent) are at risk for further injuries due to badly designed homes. Learn tips for making homes more accessible and learn to design and an accessible washroom during a design charrette. 20 Participants Suggested. $4,000. Materials Included. ($200 per person)

4 14) Perspectives - Hand Drawing Techniques Hosted by Michael Plasse-Taylor, ARIDO Do your hand-drawing skills need reviving? Creating drawings by hand evoke an emotional response for clients and are an essential part of being a designer. Quickly envisioning a design solution is an art that you cannot afford to dismiss easily. In this seminar, participants learn simple techniques for creating exciting perspective drawings. Michael Plasse-Taylor is a master of creating quick perspectives that convey complex ideas for Interior Designers. 20 Participants Suggested. $4,000. Materials Included. ($200 per person) 15) Idea Communication Hosted by Samantha Sannella Need practice envisioning solutions? Can t communicate your design ideas? Students will learn and demonstrate public speaking skills by presenting their ideas to classmates. Exercises focus on idea generation and communication through words. Expand your design vocabulary. This workshop is fun and interactive. Active participation is required. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 16) Sustainable Design Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Beverly Horii, OAA, LEED Accredited Professional LEED simplified for architects and interior designers. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S. Green Building Council representing all segments of the building industry developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution. Participants will learn about LEED basics and the importance of integrated design. Design charrette included. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 17) The Importance of Good Stair Design Hosted by Samantha Sannella Preventing falls on stairs is extremely important. The stairs in your home can be extremely dangerous. According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information, between April 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002, over 6,000Canadians fell on or from the stairs or steps in their homes and were seriously injured enough to require a hospital visit. Many Toronto homes have substandard stairs. It is the responsibility of the architect, interior designer and the contractor to ensure a safe environment for occupants. This workshop teaches the basics of stair design (including handrails), reviews why people fall, and a charrette teaches good stair design. Participants will review materials and finishes appropriate for stairs. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 18) Designing for the Cold Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Paola Poletto Designing for the Cold is an important component in all design disciplines. Learn about the body s response to the cold and how important it is to recognize the physiological implications of our designs. Participants will use a case study as a learning tool and will work on a

5 design problem to generate various ideas and solutions. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 19) Think Like a Kid! Hosted by Samantha Sannella and Paola Poletto Are you amazed at the things that kids can create? Get rid of your preconceived solutions, and create new and innovative solutions to your problems. Participants play a variety of games to help them look at problems differently. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials 20) Creating an Oasis in Your Home Hosted by Angela Amlani and Darrin Finlay, hosts of Save Us From Our House on the W Network A fun day for corporate groups! Bring in photos of your home and get advice from the stars of Save Us From Our House a renovation program on the W Network. Darrin and Angela will analyze your photos and make recommendations to improve the comfort level in your home. As well, Darrin and Angela will give you their tips on home decoration. 20 Participants Suggested. $2,800. Materials
