1 J son & Partners Consulting presents the results of IPTV Russian market research by the end of 2012 and forecast of its development until 2017 Current state and structure of the Russian IPTV services market J'son & Partners Consulting evaluates subscriber base of IPTV in Russia as around 2,54 mln.subscribers, at the end of As a result, the penetration of IPTV rate at the end of the period was around 4,7% of the total number of households in Russia. It is worth to mention, the rate of interest in IPTV service is much higher rather than the awareness rate (95% vs 74%). 4 Source: J'son & Partners Consulting Current state and the development dynamics of the adjacent markets in Russia Pay TV According to J'son & Partners Consulting, around 31,9 mln.subscribers have used Pay TV services at the end of 2012, that is 7% higher rate rather than in the 1 st H, 2012 and 11% in The total share of the large holdings and the regional companies are more than 78% of the total Pay TV market in Russia, that for 3 p.p. less than in Broadband access Broadband access in Internet market in the physical terms at the end of 2012 was 26,4 mln,households (the penetration rate was 48%). The annual growth rate of the market was 18%. Drivers and barriers of Russian IPTV services market development Development drivers Development barriers - Growth of penetration rate of BA - Wide range of interactive services such as video on demand, virtual cinema hall, etc. - Packages Double play, Triple play Double play TV and internet access from the same operator Triple play TV, telephony and Internet access from the same operator - High quality of sound and picture (HD channels) - IPTV is limited by BA base - Very high cost of set-top box that needs for IPTV connection - Strong competitiveness from cable and satellite TVs that leads to the income loss due to the low service tariffs and high cost content - High level of penetration of satellite and cable TV One of the main IPTV advantage is the availability to combine the interactive and non-interactive content, and the opportunity for the high quality air of content in regions where the Internet speed is limited. Nevertheless, despite the equal amount of drivers and barriers, IPTV market in Russia is overstepped for the last 3 years all other TV technologies by the growth rate. Forecasts for the development of the Russian market of IPTV services by 2017 According to J son & Partners Consulting the subscriber base of IPTV will be not less than 3,4 mln. at the end of In comparison with 2012, the penetration rate of IPTV in 2017 can be twice more, it means almost 10% of the Russian population will use this technology. 4
