The gift wi fund a medica education buiding on the Mier Schoo of Medicine campus and provide support for the Frost Schoo of Music. Combined with $1.4 biion raised by the 2007 concusion of Momentum: The Campaign for the University of Miami, the two campaigns raise an unprecedented $3 biion, eevating programs, faciities, and opportunities in a areas of the University. Recognizing the University s sound fisca management practices and commitment to accountabiity and transparency, Charity Navigator awards UM a four-star rating, the highest possibe score. 6 RESEARCH & LEADERSHIP THE UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES A MILESTONE WITH THE ARRIVAL OF ITS SIXTH PRESIDENT, JULIO FRENK, FORMER DEAN OF HARVARD S T.H. CHAN SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND MINISTER OF HEALTH IN MEXICO. Jean-Pierre Bardet, former dean of the Coege of Engineering and director of the Urban Water Institute at the University of Texas at Arington, and an expert on geomechanics and civi infrastructure, joins the University as dean of the Coege of Engineering. Four UM schoars are incuded in Thomson Reuters Highy Cited Researchers 2015, which recognizes scientists whose pubished works are most cited by feow researchers. Earning the mark of exceptiona impact are Brian Soden, in the Rosenstie Schoo of Marine and Atmospheric Science; Lucina Uddin and Ruan Shigui, in the Coege of Arts and Sciences; and Phiip Harvey, in the Mier Schoo of Medicine. More than $309 miion in sponsored grants and contracts in FY 2015 supports 2,100-pus extramuray funded research projects. With $99 miion in NIH funding for biomedica research, the Mier Schoo of Medicine and the Schoo of Nursing and Heath Studies are again the top NIH-funded medica and nursing schoos in Forida.

Abhishek Prasad, assistant professor of biomedica engineering, receives a $2.26 miion New Innovator Award from the Nationa Institutes of Heath for his proposa to study spina cord motor circuits invoved in imb movements and their viabiity for prosthetic contro. The Rosenstie Schoo of Marine and Atmospheric Science unveis its Heicopter Observation Patform, a one-of-a-kind fying scientific aboratory for obtaining vita information about our cimate and human heath. Chaoming Song, assistant professor of physics, is the winner of the 2015 Erdős Rényi Prize in Network Science, which honors scientists under 40 for research achievements in compex networks, a fied that draws on theories and methods from mathematics, physics, statistics, computer science, and socioogy.

8 TRANSFORMING THE CAMPUS THE FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC S 41,089-SQUARE- FOOT PATRICIA LOUISE FROST MUSIC STUDIOS COMPLEX OPENS AND RECEIVES THE URBAN LAND INSTITUTE SOUTHEAST FLORIDA CHAPTER S PROJECT OF THE YEAR AWARD. The Schoo of Nursing and Heath Studies breaks ground on a 41,000-square-foot Simuation Hospita that wi revoutionize heath care education by repicating the fow of activities in a rea hospita. The Schoo of Architecture breaks ground on the 20,000-square-foot Thomas P. Murphy Design Studio Buiding, a structure that wi enabe up to 120 students to work together on designs using the atest technoogy. Fashioned from surpus miitary barracks, the University s origina administration and registration center, known by its 1300 Campo Sano address, wins Cora Gabes City Beautifu Award, the fourth in a series of preservation awards, for its outstanding renovation. Fate Bridge opens, creating a 210-foot pedestrian path across Lake Osceoa that dispays the message from Wiiam Ernest Heney s poem Invictus: I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my sou, a favorite quote of the ate Aexander Grass, whose granddaughter is a UM student and whose famiy foundation heped fund the bridge. Coege of Engineering students contribute to construction, instaing composite reinforcements on the deck and digita sensors to monitor its strength. Severa singe-sta bathrooms on the Cora Gabes campus are abeed with signage as Gender Neutra (open to a gender identities/ expressions) or Incusive (open to a gender identities/expressions, ADA compiant, and suitabe for famiies). This is one of mutipe initiatives underway for making the University a more safe and incusive pace for the LGBTQ community and a students.

9 SENSATIONAL STUDENTS APPLICATIONS 33,416 RECEIVED FRESHMEN 2,082 ENROLLED GRADUATED IN THE TOP 10% OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL 63% CLASS, AND GRADUATED IN THE TOP 5%. FRESHMAN RETENTION RATE FOR THE 2014 ENTERING CLASS, 92% THE SECOND HIGHEST IN UM HISTORY 44% MEAN ACT SCORE30 Thirteen UM student projects receive seed funding at the Cinton Goba Initiative University, hosted for the second time by UM in March Engineering major Samue Peurifoy s USoar program, which educates students on aternative energy, receives funding from the Resoution Project Socia Venture Chaenge. A record-high nine UM students receive Fubright Schoarships to study, teach, and conduct research across the gobe. Six students are from the Coege of Arts and Sciences, two are from the Mier Schoo of Medicine, and one is from the Coege of Engineering. For the fifth consecutive year, the Coege of Engineering s Institute of Industria Engineers (IIE) Student Chapter receives the IIE s God Award for overa achievements in

10 UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS IN THE FROST SCHOOL OF MUSIC WIN 18 DOWNBEAT STUDENT MUSIC AWARDS. Brian Oiver, a student in the Schoo of Law and Frost Schoo of Music joint J.D./M.M. program, wins The Grammy Foundation s 17th Annua Entertainment Law Initiative, a prestigious writing competition sponsored by The Recording Academy for a paper urging courts to reconsider how statutory damages are awarded for digita music abums. Christopher Baiey, a doctora student in the Schoo of Education and Human Deveopment s Department of Kinesioogy and Sport Sciences, receives the 2015 Doctora Schoar Award from the American Kinesioogy Association for his work on chromium suppementation. He is the first UM student to receive a nationa award from the association.

11 STELLAR SERVICE The University receives the prestigious 2015 Community Engagement Cassification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, vaid unti The Office of Civic and Community Engagement and Center for Computationa Science aunch the Miami Affordabiity Project (MAP), a first-of-its-kind, free onine too that provides data about affordabe housing and deveopment. More than 3,900 facuty and staff participate in TeamUM s 2014 United Way campaign, raising $1.16 miion up from $1.13 miion the previous year. Some 7,300 students compete more than 147,000 community service hours in A haf century after becoming the first academic famiy medicine department in the United States, the Mier Schoo of Medicine s Department of Famiy Medicine and Community Heath ceebrates five decades of innovative heath care and service to the community through cinics, heath fairs, and other outreach programs. Under an agreement signed by UM President Juio Frenk, the University joins the Caros Sim Foundation and the Inter-American Deveopment Bank to reduce high mortaity rates among poor women and chidren in Mexico and other Centra American nations through advanced training for heath care professionas. Biomedica engineering major Natasha Koermer receives Campus Compact s Newman Civic Feows Award and the Student Exceence in Service Award for creating sustainabe soutions to goba engineering and heath probems. Through a new partnership with the Peace Corps, students in the Schoo of Education and Human Deveopment s Community and Socia Change Master s Program can integrate their studies with 27 months of service overseas. This year students trave to China, Macedonia, Dominican Repubic, Morocco, and Uganda.

12 ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS A UM Athetics programs continue to demonstrate cassroom exceence by scoring 960 or better out of a possibe 1,000 Academic Progress Rate (APR) points, with seven teams scoring 990 or better. Hurricane student-athetes aso post an NCAA Graduation Success Rate of 89 percent 6 percent higher than the nationa average and the 16th-best score among Footba Bow Subdivision schoos. The men s basketba team advances to the Nationa Invitation Tournament championship game, osing by ony two points to Stanford, and finishes its season The women s basketba team makes its sixth consecutive trip to a postseason tournament and fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the ast five years, and has its fifth 20-pus win season in the ast six years, a program records. Hurricanes sophomore diver Briadam Herrera wins the bronze meda as the one representative of Team USA in the men s 1-meter springboard at the 2015 Word University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. For the first time since 2008 and the 24th time in program history, the Hurricanes trave to Omaha, Nebraska, for the 2015 NCAA Baseba Championship. Five Canes are seected in the 2015 Major League Baseba draft, and eight payers are seected for A-ACC. Hurricanes track star Shakima Wimbey wins a god meda at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, heping the United States finish first in the women s 4x400-meter reay. She aso wins siver in the individua 400 meters, soidifying her status as one of the nation s top sprinters.
