1 QLogic 10GbE 3GCNA Lab Lab Overview Designed to provide an overview of the QLogic 8200 Series converged Network Adapter (CNA), this guide outlines the setup, installation, configuration and instructions for deploying converged Storage and Networking solutions on a single 10GbE adapter. Attendees will see how to configure the adapter for storage and networking protocols, change the personality of the port and manage bandwidth allocation using NIC Partitioning (NPAR). Objectives Overview of the QLogic SuperInstaller Validate Multiprotocol Configuration Configure NIC Partitioning (NPAR) o Validate Flexible Personalities for Storage and Networking o Manage Dynamic Bandwidth Provisioning with NPAR Overview of the QLogic SuperInstaller (For Review Only) Brief overview of the QLogic SuperInstaller, this installation package helps to install the Storage and Networking drivers to enable FCoE, iscsi, and NIC functions for the 10GbE 3GCNA Review 1 (This step was performed prior to the workshop) System s Device Manager before QLogic SuperInstaller Description of steps to execute QLogic SuperInstaller with Installation Wizard screen shot Updated Device Manager after QLogic SuperInstaller has been executed Verify NIC, FCoE and iscsi device drivers are installed 1. Before installing the QLogic SuperInstaller the initial storage configuration will typically show the local disk drive(s) installed, for the workshop server there is only one local disk drive installed. a. Open Server Manager then select Diagnostics Device Manager b. Expand the Disk drives entry (as shown in Figure 1) c. Expand the Other devices entry to view functions before driver installation has happened. 1

Example location: open WSI (Windows Super Installer) directory b. Double click Setup to invoke the SuperInstaller (shown in Figure 2) c. Click next and select Agree to Licensing terms Figure 2 2. Beginning the driver installation using the Installation Wizard a. Select the option Install Drivers Only, click next (shown in Figure 3) 2

3 Figure 3 3. Select Finish to exit the QLogic SuperInstaller 4. From the updated Device Manager after QLogic SuperInstaller has been executed a. Select Diagnostics Device Manager Network Adapters b. Verify one or more of the following NIC entry is present i. QLogic Dual Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet CNA, PCIe 2.0 Adapter c. Expand the Storage controller entry d. Verify one or more of the following Storage entry is present i. QLogic [FCoE] Adapter entries ii. QLogic iscsi Adapter entries (shown in Figure 4) Figure 4 3

4 Configure NPAR with 10GbE 3GCNA Using the NIC Partition Management tab in the device properties page, easily enable NPAR and seamlessly configure the 10GbE physical port into user defined multi-function storage and networking ports. Review 2 Enable NIC Partition for the 10GbE 3GCNA from the device properties page Change the personality of the iscsi function to NIC Result: Enable three NIC and one FCoE functions 1. How to enable NIC Partition for the 10GbE physical port from the device properties page a. Open Server Manager b. Select Diagnostics Device Manager Network Adapters c. Right click on the first QLogic 10 Gigabit Ethernet CNA device d. Select Properties (shown in Figure 5) Figure 5 2. From the Adapter Property page a. Select the NIC Partition Management tab b. Right click on Function 2: Not Present c. From the Change Function Type, select Enable Partition (shown in Figure 6) 4

To change the iscsi function into a NIC function, in the NIC Partition Management tab a. Right click on the iscsi function, Function 4: QLogic iscsi Adapter b. Select Change Function Type c. Then select the option Convert to NIC (shown in Figure 8) 5

7 Validate NPAR and Multiprotocol Configuration on the 10GbE 3GCNA Using the Device Manager identify multi-protocol functions - FCoE and NIC, and navigate the adapter properties to validate the FCoE and NIC operations. From a physical port of the QLogic 10GbE 3GCNA enable three NIC functions and one FCoE function. Explore the adapter properties identifying multiple functions on the same physical port for converged storage and networking connectivity. Exercise 1 Login to the server Validate the 3 NIC functions/partitions has been applied Check FCoE storage is discovered and verify storage configuration View NIC partition s IP address and ping to the Test Host system 1. Use Windows Remote Desktop to login and connect to the workshop server 2. Validating the 3 NIC functions/partitions has been applied a. Open Server Manager and select Diagnostics Device Manager Network Adapters b. There should be 4 QLogic Dual Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet CNA, PCIe 2.0 Adapter (shown in Figure 9), the fourth port is the adapter s 2 nd port that is not used in the workshop Figure 9 c. Right click on the first QLogic Dual Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet CNA device and select Properties d. From the adapter property page, select the NIC Partition Management tab e. 3 NIC functions and one FCoE function associated with the partitioned port should now be present(shown in Figure 10) 7

8 Figure Continuing from the Device Manager a. Expand the Disk drives entry b. Look for DotHill DH3000 SCSI Disk Devices (shown in Figure 11) i. This will be the FCoE storage that was found using FIP (FCoE Initialization Protocol) Figure 11 8

9 4. On the Desktop at the lower right-side a. Right click on the icon for Network Internet Access b. Select Open Network and Sharing Center i. At the upper left side select Change adapter settings ii. This will bring up the Network Connections window c. In the Network Connections window i. There are Local Area Connection icons that represent a single network interface ii. Each NIC function is represented as a separate Local Area Connection. iii. If a Local Area Connection icon port has a red X under it 1. The network port represented by the icon has link down (not connected to the network) d. There will be at least 3 Local Area Connections for QLogic Dual Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet (shown in Figure 12) i. Additional connections may have a red X Figure Understanding the assigned IP Addresses and testing connectivity a. Locate one of the Local Area Connection with a QLogic Dual Port 10Gigabit Ethernet that has a link, then right click on each icon and select Status b. In the Local Area Connection Status window click on the Details button ii. The Network Connection Details window will show on the IPv4 Address line the address assigned. iii. Test the NIC connections by pinging the Test Host across each of the NPAR interface, from the Desktop click Start then click the Command Prompt icon iv. In the Command Prompt window, type ping and repeat for each of the other Test Host IP addresses Manage Dynamic Bandwidth Provisioning with NPAR Using the NIC Partition Management tab in the Windows device property page, allocate minimum and maximum bandwidth for each NIC function. View the NIC functions and its link speed. Dynamically manage bandwidth provisioned for the NIC function by changing the maximum bandwidth. Observe the link speed changes from the Windows Task Manager in real time. 9

From the adapter s property page, select the NIC Partition Management (NPAR) tab. a. Right click Function 0 for the Partitioned Adapter and select Configure Function (shown in Figure 13) Figure 13 10

11 b. Set each of the NPAR NIC functions bandwidth according to the new values as shown in the table below Function New Minimum Bandwidth % New Maximum Bandwidth % c. From the Configure Function interface window set the Minimum and Maximum Bandwidth (shown in Figure 14) Figure 14 d. Click the OK button to complete the bandwidth setting change and then go to the next partitioned NIC function and repeat the steps above to change the remaining 2 functions accordingly 2. Select the OK button at the bottom of the Property page to close the property page Observe the link speed changes in different areas of Windows 1. Maximum Bandwidth (link speed) set for the NIC function is reflected in the Task Manager a. From the Desktop, right-click on an unused area of the Taskbar and select Start Task Manager b. Click on the Task Manager s Networking tab and expand the window to show all adapters in the bottom window area (shown in Figure 15) 2. Or from each of the partitioned NIC functions property sheet a. From Server Manager and select Diagnostics Device Manager Network Adapters b. Right click on the first QLogic Dual Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet CNA device and select Properties c. Select the Information tab from the adapter s property sheet d. From the Link Information section, observe the Link Speed (shown in Figure 16) 11
