3 Gold Coast catchment area The Gold Coast catchment includes the Nerang Child Safety Service Centre, Labrador Child Safety Service Centre and the Mermaid Beach Child Safety Service Centre. Gold Coast catchment profile On 30 June 2012, it was estimated there were 512,302 people residing within the Gold Coast catchment area. This represented approximately 11% of the estimated resident population of Queensland (4,565,529 people). The estimated number of children aged 0-17 years was 108,034 people (approximately 10% of the Queensland population of children aged 0-17 years). The population of people who identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in Gold Coast as at 30 June 2012 was 5,861 (1.2% of the total population in the catchment). In Queensland, the population of people who identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander was 155,824 (3.6% of the total population).
