3 One in five Australian adults experience some form of mental illness each year. It can affect people of all ages and from all walks of life. The causes may be attributed to a complex mix of life events, social, geographic, cultural, family and socio-economic factors combined with an imbalance in brain chemistry either as a result of genetics or environmental factors. Healthe Care Australia is one of the largest and fastest growing privately owned networks of private hospitals in Australia. We have more than 300 private mental health inpatient beds and currently operate 16 hospital sites across five states of Australia - Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and Western Australia. Nationally, we pride ourselves on delivering premium private mental health services with the necessary support, education programs and individual treatment plans to get individuals on the road to recovery and wellness. In Queensland, we enjoy a solid reputation as a specialised provider of inpatient, day patient and outpatient services with three specialised facilities that offer a safe and supportive environment to assist those in need of mental health care: Belmont Private Hospital, a 120 bed private mental health hospital and Authorised Mental Health Service in Brisbane. An additional 30 beds are due for completion in late 2015 Currumbin Clinic, a 104 bed private mental health hospital on the southern Gold Coast Currumbin Clinic Bundall, private mental health outpatient consulting suites on the central Gold Coast Our services include treatment for depression, anxiety, mood disorders, general adult psychiatry, drug and alcohol dependence, older persons mental health, acute admission and assessment, trauma and dissociative disorders, perinatal disorders, special care unit (psychiatric intensive care unit), electroconvulsive therapy and an extensive range of evidence-based day patient and inpatient therapy programs.

4 Anticipated to open in mid-2015, Townsville Private Clinic will be a modern 60 bed voluntary private mental health service conveniently located on Wills Street in Townsville s CBD. It will be Healthe Care s newest private service delivering quality integrated private healthcare services to the wider Townsville and North Queensland community. Programs will be developed from our existing model and treatment services. Our experience in providing private mental health services has proven that private inpatient and day patient services exist as an important and supportive service for people experiencing mental health issues. Our private mental health services work in partnership with Psychiatrists, General Practitioners, general hospitals, A&E departments, public mental health and our key referrers to ensure recovery and an individualised focus for each patient. Our team of professionals will be carefully selected and committed to providing comprehensive assessment, treatment and support for people experiencing mental health concerns. With a focus on high quality inpatient and day patient mental health care, we will deliver positive patient outcomes for people with acute adult mental health disorders. Our dedicated and highly qualified team of experienced Consultant Psychiatrists, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals will foster a discrete environment ideal for treatment and recovery. Specialised care will be provided in the least restrictive environment while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality as a first priority. Patients will benefit from day patient consulting suites conveniently located onsite, as well as an active Consumer and Carer network. Our holistic approach to treatment will be offered in a safe and supportive environment utilising evidence-based treatment, patient education and therapeutic programs. Patients may be treated in either an inpatient or day patient setting depending on their individual requirements. Where agreed with the patient s consent, we will seek input from family members and carers in formulating and delivering treatment plans.

6 Based on our typical private mental health service offerings, we envisage the following for Townsville Private Clinic: Acute Admissions Townsville Private Clinic s voluntary Acute Admissions Unit will comprise 60 private mental health beds, with 52 single rooms featuring private ensuites. Our team of healthcare professionals will specialise in the assessment and treatment of patients presenting with emergent mental health disorders and those with an exacerbation of pre-existing disorders. Patients will be admitted to our inpatient unit under the care of a Psychiatrist with admitting rights to Townsville Private Clinic. During admission, patients will have access to regular therapy sessions with their treating Psychiatrist, individual therapist, the multidisciplinary team and a variety of group therapy programs.

7 Mental Health Therapy Programs for Inpatients Healthe Care s mental health therapy programs are focused on best practice service delivery and evidence-based research. Inpatient programs are group-based and aligned to the main diagnoses treated during an inpatient admission. Current programs delivered for the treatment of a range of mental health diagnoses include: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy R.E.A.C.H. mood disorder program developed by the Black Dog Institute Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Healthy Minds for the elderly Women s Groups Addictive Disorders Our range of dynamic and innovative expressive therapies including art, music, craft and creative writing all form part of our usual treatment programs made available to both inpatients and day patients. To ensure patients maintain overall wellness we encourage participation in a range of physical activities including personal training, yoga, meditation and tai chi. We also provide advice and an environment to nurture healthy eating habits and provide support and assistance for those wanting to quit smoking during their inpatient stay.

8 Mood and Anxiety Disorders Our inpatient education treatment programs for mood and anxiety disorders will be adapted as needed for Townsville Private Clinic. Our group-based depression program includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, relapse prevention and education to provide the skills, techniques and strategies to understand and manage depression. Our group-based anxiety program provides participants with the techniques and tools to positively reduce the symptoms and side effects associated with an anxiety disorder. Older Persons Mental Illness Our specialised older persons mental health services will be delivered by a qualified team that is attentive and understanding of the needs of the elderly. We understand that older people are more likely to have complex needs that require partnerships between health providers in different settings. Some existing medical conditions require assessment to ensure an accurate diagnosis is made and the appropriate treatment plan is formulated. Typically, our assessment includes cognitive and general functioning screening and we encourage the involvement of family members and careers to assist with planning for the future. Our existing services provide inpatient programs for depression and anxiety, whilst others may be referred to day programs to assist with socialisation, cognitive changes and early signs of memory loss.

9 Military Mental Health Services Our other Queensland mental health facilities, Belmont Private Hospital in Brisbane and Currumbin Clinic and Currumbin Clinic Bundall on the Gold Coast provide specialised mental health services for the military. This includes treatment for patients living with PTSD, support for enlisted personnel and assistance for the families of enlisted personnel. Our treatment and evidence-based education and therapy programs provide a safe treatment setting for this client group whilst providing skills and techniques to manage PTSD more effectively, understand the impact that it has on one s self and others, as well as fostering a support network for participants. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation suites in our existing hospitals provide specialised treatment areas for the delivery of TMS. This alternative treatment option for depression forms part of our inpatient treatment services and will gradually be offered across our mental health hospitals.

11 Therapeutic and Mental Health Day Programs As part of the discharge planning process after an inpatient stay, we encourage patients in consultation with their treatment team to consider enrolment in our evidence-based day programs. These programs provide a continuum of care and recovery focus whilst assisting patients with relapse prevention and education on maintaining good mental health following admission. Patients who have not previously been admitted as an inpatient are also eligible to enrol in our day and evening programs. Referral from a General Practitioner is required for patients to attend these programs and patients must undergo assessment with one of our Consultant Psychiatrists prior to commencing a program. All Townsville Private Clinic programs will be facilitated by experienced mental health personnel, aligned with their special area of interest to ensure optimum service delivery. New programs will be continuously under review and development to meet the ongoing needs of patients.
