Financial Services In the sixth annual conference of Finance Malta, it was stated that Malta is the leading country in attracting monetary financial institutions within the European zone, where financial services have become a key pillar of the economy. Malta has all the qualities of being a financial hub in the Mediterranean region, positioning itself as a platform between Europe, Africa and the Middle East. During a recent local Financial Services seminar, concern was expressed about the lack of human resources and training in this fast-developing business sector, especially in the top positions. 2 Masters Degree Programme To fill this learning gap, the Malta Business Academy, teamed up with Napier Edinburgh University to deliver the Masters Degree Programme on Banking and Financial Services, which will run in Malta and Edinburgh, with induction and a workshop session in Scotland. The modules have been conveniently planned for students to study, where, for fourteen week-ends for the Malta modules, tutors will be flown on purpose from Scotland, to provide face to face most appropriate blended lectures as an added benefit to the students. This is the best way for the students to establish contacts directly with the tutors and encourage networking with other fellow students. This can prove to be very effective as a motivator and morale booster, to enable the students to share the knowledge and work experiences, where possible, since students will hail from different walks of life. Programme Dates and Duration The Masters Degree programme will commence in December 2013 and will last approximately twenty-four months. Programme aim and objectives: 1. To develop insights, critical thinking and management skills necessary to function effectively in a management role and to widen the perspective of students beyond the limitations imposed by their own experience in their own organization and career to date; 5. To promote the development of intellectual capability, research skills, consultancy skills and creative thinking of the students so that they can generate original solutions to management problems in their organization.

Within the University there is access to over 1,250 PCs and 150 Apple Macs on seven campuses. Student Counselling provides counselling support to students, who have personal issues causing them concern or are emotionally upset. New students who apply to the programme are matched with a trained mentor, who has experience of being at Edinburgh Napier. For whom is it intended This Masters degree programme in Banking and Financial Services is of interest to Accountants, those in the legal profession, as well as members of the various financial institutions, insurance companies and bank executives, amongst others. The Academy has been set-up by Joe Abela Fitzpatrick, with over forty years experience in management, having worked most of his life in senior positions in management and training. He attended numerous training programmes in Malta and in Canada and delivered a number of training courses himself. He was the driving force behind the development of the Malta Institute of Management, serving as its President for thirteen years and twenty-eight years on its council. He also worked as a training and management consultant for over four years. He was until recently the Chairman of the Malta Qualification Council and is currently the Director and CEO of a family business, which has been successfully running for many years two accredited schools in beauty and hairdressing, apart from the wholesale business. He is also the Principal of the International Academy of Hotel and Catering Studies.
