Dear Parent(s) Thee Camp 2008 can be one of the most incredible weeks of your student s life! One way it will be is for us to all get started off right. Please read all of the contents of this packet and know that we take our rules very seriously. We have done this for many years and know what contributes to a great week for all involved and what detracts from giving God every opportunity to transform lives. Thank you for allowing us the privilege to spend a week with your student! Jim Included in this packet you will find: 1. Thee Camp Invoice payments can be made online at There is a link below the register button. 2. Release Forms (Forms included ONLY if you have not turned them in.) 3. A Must-read for Campers 4. General Information including: - Exact times for departure and return - Emergency numbers - Arrangements for late arrival or early departure - Medical issues - Mail 5. Camp reflection service details 6. What to bring and what not to bring 7. 2 A Must-Read For Campers To maximize the week EVENING EVENTS Most students go all out at our nightly events. THEE OLYMPICS: Details will be given on Monday night. Wear red, white, or blue. You can wear one, two, or all three colors if you like. This contributes to Sweepstakes. WESTERN NIGHT: This includes a square dance. All types of outfits can be worn, everything from shorts and t-shirts to jeans. Most students go all out with Western clothing. SKIMMERCIAL NIGHT: Every High School cabin will create a skit to be performed live. Every Junior High cabin will create a commercial to be videoed prior to skimmercial night. Bring any silly outfits or small props you might want to use. Other props and costumes will be provided at camp. WARM FUZZY NIGHT: Led by our senior graduates, this night allows students to affirm and encourage one another. This camp tradition is a favorite and has taken place for over 20 years. NERD BANQUET: Banquet is an awesome tradition that includes a special dinner and awards ceremony. Banquet pictures are optional and will be made available after camp. There are many funny awards given along with the Sweepstakes Award. This year the final night of camp has a new twist NERD BANQUET. Students should bring their goofiest clothes ever for a night of affirmation and remembrance of the week. We are thrilled that you have chosen to join us for this week, and hope that you will make Thee Camp a part of your summer plans every year. These terms and suggestions will help you prepare for one of the most exciting weeks of your life! SWEEPSTAKES: Voted on by their peers - the Jr. High guy or girl cabin, and High school guy or girl cabin with the most Camp spirit - will receive an award at the end of the week! CABIN CLEAN-UP: Cabin clean-up is a big deal at camp. Students compete with other cabins to have the cleanest and most creative cabin for the day. Winning cabin clean-up contributes to Sweepstakes! FREE TIME: You will have plenty of time to play basketball, volleyball, board games, ping pong, blobbing, tubing, swimming, and to learn great stuff at breakout sessions. MAIL: You may receive mail at Camp, but only letters or large size envelopes (10x13 max). No packages / boxes will be accepted. PCBC Thee Camp Student s Name Camp Walk On Water 8256 Diagonal 1500 Rd. Stuart, OK
General Information DEPART: Students must arrive at the Northway Christian Church south parking lot (East of PCBC past Hillcrest at NW Hwy and Airline, parking lot is at Airline and Wentwood) at 10:00 am. sharp, Monday, July 7 th. Students are to load their luggage onto the buses and all students must IMMEDIATELY check in at the registration table. RETURN: We will arrive at the Northway Christian Church south parking lot at approximately 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 12 th. Special Arrangements 1. No camper may arrive late or leave early from camp without prior notification to Jim Gribnitz, Junior High Minister. He may be reached at [email protected] or After permission is obtained for special arrangements, the parent must put in writing the travel arrangements - to be turned in before we depart for Camp by July Parents and friends are not to visit camp during the week. 4. Cell Phones - Students should NOT have their own cell phones. They will be taken up. In case of emergency, all youth staff and leaders will have cell phones for students to use. Medical 1. Students must have a notarized PCBC Medical Form and a Camp Walk on Water Release form on file or they will be unable to attend camp. 2. Any special medical instructions should be brought to our attention on the medical release form or attached to it. Any asthmatics must have inhaler and nebulizer medicine with them! 3. Two nurses will be on duty and in residence at camp. Students taking medication on a regular basis may bring a one-week supply to camp. This medication needs to be in its prescription bottle and given to a camp nurse for disbursement as directed. For everyone s safety, our nurses must know what prescription medication is being taken by students. Please turn in at the nurse s station on Monday, July 7 th. For Emergencies Jim Gribnitz, Jr. High Minister Melinda Moran, Student Ministry Operations Manager Camp Walk on Water Office Money Bring money for daily snacks from the snack bar and the camp store. Books, bibles, devotionals, etc. from the PCBC resource center will require additional funds. 3
IMPORTANT! Students will not be able to attend Thee Camp unless a current notarized PCBC Medical Authorization form and a Walk on Water Release form are on file with the Student Ministry Office. Refer to the enclosed invoice for your form requirements. Please turn in completed and notarized forms to the Student Ministry Office ASAP. If your student is going to need prescription medication, a MEDICATION SHEET is available to download at Please turn this form in by July 3 if possible. FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE...a notary is available at the Student Ministry Office of Park Cities Baptist Church Monday through Friday. Please call to be sure the notary is present. Camp Reflection Service In the Great Hall July 13th, 9:20am All Parents and Students are invited to come for a time of worship, testimonies, baptisms, music and video. This is an outstanding day in the life of our church and in the hearts of our students and families! We encourage students to wear their camp t-shirts on this morning. Cell Phones We do not allow students to bring cell phones to camp and these are the top 5 reasons. 1. You have the number of Camp WOW and all youth staff cell numbers. 2. Our leaders have cell phones that students can borrow to contact parents for any reason. 3. They are distractions throughout the week and cause issues in cabins especially at night. 4. Kids not at camp often like to be in touch with kids who are, and at very late hours! 5. Boyfriend/girlfriend stuff is problematic! 4
WHAT TO BRING SACK LUNCH for the bus ride on Monday, July 7 th ONE large suitcase, ONE carry-on bag, pillow and a bed roll. NO MORE! BED LINENS (sheets, pillow, light blanket or a sleeping bag) TOWELS & WASHCLOTHS PERSONAL CARE ITEMS (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and DEODORANT) BIBLE AND PEN SNACKS - Students may bring snacks in re-sealable containers. FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, SOFTBALL GLOVE, FRISBEE, etc. (optional items) EXTRA Money for soft drink and snack machines, PCBC Resource Center (books), Camp WOW Snack and Gift shop CLOTHING SWIM WEAR: (Girls: a modest one piece bathing suit - tankinis are acceptable if they have plenty of coverage or a T-shirt will have to be worn over the suit.) No cut-offs, cut-outs, or bikinis. STUDENTS SHOULD PLAN ON GETTING WET EVERY DAY AT RECREATION. SHOES: TENNIS and SANDALS or flip flops. NOTE: Closed toed shoes must be worn during morning recreation. Bring some flip-flops to shower in. SHOES ARE TO BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. CLOTHES: (cool clothing) Casual shorts, lots of T-shirts and clothes that can get dirty. No tight or short shorts, halter tops, midriff tops, spaghetti strap or strapless shirts!! THEE OLYMPICS CLOTHING: Wear red, white, and/or blue. WESTERN CLOTHING: Jeans or shorts are fine. Most students go all out with Western clothing. NERD BANQUET CLOTHING: Students should wear their silliest nerd outfits. Students should dress in keeping with the purpose of Thee Camp and be mindful of what their T-shirts promote or advertise. The Youth Staff reserves the right to ask a student to change clothes if not deemed appropriate. 5
Guidelines for Campers Leave at Home 1. Cell phones 2. Ice chests 3. Fireworks of any kind or water balloons. 4. Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs 5. Students may bring ipods to be used on the bus ride and after lights out. PCBC is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen ipods. 6. Weapons or lighters 7. Tobacco products of any kind - This is also a Walk on Water camp rule. IF YOUR STUDENT BRINGS ANY OF THESE ITEMS, THEY WILL BE CONFISCATED - Possession of alcohol or tobacco may lead to the student being sent home at the parent s expense. Discipline Campers must comply with the rules outlined. Students are expected to treat PCBC Staff, WOW Staff, all leaders and other campers with respect. If there is any inappropriate behavior, parents will be called with the possibility of the student being sent home. Camp Rules Students are where they are scheduled to be. No guys in girls cabins or vice-versa. Students will comply with all water and safety guidelines given by the Walk on Water Staff or PCBC leaders. 6
