Overview SDC engages Data Centre experienced staff on projects, with proven track- records in Europe, US, and Asia- Pacific, where the Data Centre industry leaders reside. SDC does not rely solely on the technical experience of the staff, but also has substanxal emphasis on project essenxal soz skills, to heighten the communicaxon, presentaxon, and coordinaxon skills. The LOBs are classified into four categories as follows: i ii iii iv IT Infrastructure (ITI) Critical Systems Engineering (CSE) Project Management Professionals (PMP) Intelligent Building Integrators (IBI) Each LOB is in turn sub-categorised into multiple teams, broadening the service scope.

7 Scope of Services The Data Centre Scope of Services (SoS) may vary based on Client needs, however, the general operational structure based on the Data Centre elements, maybe expanded as follows: 1 Strategy & Architecture 2 Site Selection o Aid the Client to develop the Data Centre Strategy in a holistic manner, whether this i s a s t a n d - a l o n e D C, Production & Disaster Recovery pair, Nationwide, Regional, or even Global. o The DC Architecture team assist in developing best practice standardised designs for next-generation DC for every business. o The ITI and CSE team would cooperate with the Client to identify Greenfield, Brownfield, Expansions, or even Co-location facilities that best suit current demand, and provide the required level of availability for a prolonged DC lifespan in a cost-effective manner. o The site selection exercise includes location analysis including but not limited to Access, Flood Potential, as well as Physical Infrastructure detailed review based on Uptime & TIA-942. o For existing sites, Detailed Due Diligence (D 3 ) would comprise of external influences, site physical parameters, as well as staff skill set, and operations and maintenance regimes.

8 3 Design o The SDC teams will be allocated accordingly to projects, and the teams are fully capable of a complete Design of all IT, Mechanical, and Electrical elements as well as the site fit-out. o SDC staff provides Concept Design, Detail Design, and Fit-out Supervision. o SDC accredited and Chartered staff have global experience in designing, building, testing, and managing DCs, however, at SDC, we strongly believe that detail design is best suited to local reputable firms with track records, and extensive knowledge in local codes. The SDC project team will oversee and approve all detail design drawings to ensure global standards are still met within local codes. o Tools such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are often used to model and predict the performance of the DC at various Day loads, and Operational rotations.

9 4 Testing & Commissioning o At SDC, Testing & Commissioning (T&C) standards are adhered to, and new and improved methodologies are also introduced, based on ASHRAE, CIBSE, BSRIA, IEEE, and more. o T&C is based on best practices e.g. ASHRAE, BSRIA as well as SDC developed methodologies to rigorously test the DC to ensure a secure infrastructure is handed over to the client o The LOBs provide Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Room Integrity Tests (RITs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), Heat Load Tests (HLTs), Integrated System Tests (ISTs), Pull-the-Plug (PTP) and more. o CFD may also be leveraged during this stage.

10 5 DCAP o Data Centre Audit Program (DCAP) may range from Operational to Physical, where ITIL frameworks may be utilised to audit the operational framework, to physical where hotspot issues may need to be resolved. o Audits may include capacity planning issues, that in turn lead to hotspots, power failures, or even capacity breaches. o Thermal Imaging is a common tool utilised for such issues, and even more commonly as a regular service on preventative maintenance, by scanning all power distribution systems.

11 6 Operations 7 Maintenance o SDC utilises various LOBs to enhance, develop, and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Process Charts, Logs, and a comprehensive Data Centre Manual (DCM). o SDC staff are also available to assist in BAU monitoring and operations such as Rack & Stack, either as Consultants, or as Outsourced staff. o o Vendor specific maintenance, ranging from the testing of individual components / units / systems, to the frequent change of elements or material such as airfilters is reviewed by SDC. Further recommendations on spare part availability on site, staff skill set, routine maintenance time slots, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and more, are provided to meet the site Tier criteria and availability needs.

12 8 Capacity Management o Capacity Management is of paramount importance in running existing DCs, to ensure a prolonged operational life span, as well as ensuring the appropriate sizing of expansions or new DC builds. o Tools in the market may provide capturing methods for Power, Cooling, & Space, however, common methods that also include physically: Connectivity, Floor Loading, as well as logically; IT Demand, Trends, Virtualisation Impact, Portability; are nonexistent. o On the other hand, SDC methods and tools offer this holistic manner of capacity management to ensure your DC maintains equilibrium, and prolongs its life expectancy.

13 9 Green & Energy Audits o SDC staff have proven track records, and education in Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, and are qualified of leveraging global standards in the Design and Audit of DCs. With reference to standards such as LEED, BREEAM, and The Green Council, the team is capable of improving the efficiency of the DCs to any of the major metrics such as: PUE DCIE EUE SIPOM DCPE IT Efficiency Data Centre Efficiency o Furthermore, our consultants review all systems and sub-components to identify upgrade potential to enhance overall efficiency and reduce operational costs.

14 Following completion of the construction phase commissioning work, postoccupancy commissioning and optimisation (POCX) becomes essential. 10 Post Occupancy Commissioning & Optimisation (POC x ) POC X is proposed to: o Optimise Operation: Establish smooth, reliable operation of all mechanical and electrical (M&E) components, inclusive of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) o Increase Energy Efficiency: Identify and propose opportunities for increased efficiency improvements and other operational improvements o Extend equipment life o Reduce / eliminate Sick Building Syndrome (SBS): SBS is the chronic ill-health of occupants, e.g., cold-like symptoms associated with their presence in particular buildings. SBS is due to a combination of factors such as: o Poor maintenance of ventilation plant (e.g., unclean duct) o Inadequate fresh air rate o Fungal growth and dust mites in furnishings o Building induced stress (e.g., lack of occupant control over ventilation) o Job satisfaction

15 10 Post Occupancy Commissioning & Optimisation (POC x ) o The basic strategy of the POC X process is to utilise existing facility information systems to monitor, record and analyse operational aspects of the building M&E systems and use this information to further improve building operation. o To achieve stable environments, ensure the changes are pro-actively audited, and include: o Pre-analyses o Pre-checks o Adjustments o Monitoring o Analysis o The key element is to provide OpEx reduction, WITHOUT compromising the availability, and resilience of the Data Center, as downtime will cost more than OpEx savings

16 11 Thermal Comfort Surveys o To maximise productivity, a thermal comfort survey is recommended to ensure all parameters related to occupational health meet globally recognised standards. This survey will include field measurements for: o Temperature o Humidity o Air speed o Lighting levels o Noise levels o CO 2 levels o The above parameters (along with job satisfaction) are major contributors to Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). o Staff thermal behaviour is assessed, not only at work, but at home, and en-route, to ensure appropriate clothing material and layers, as well as other physical parameters (e.g., temperature, ventilation, and lighting) are following best practice.
