Arnold & Associates Emily Nielsen President of Nielsen IT Consulting International UC Analyst, Jon Arnold, and Emily Nielsen, UC Consultant, team up to share their insight on industry trends and the challenges organizations face when contemplating change. Jon and Emily work in different spectrums of this industry; Jon represents many UC manufacturers and Value Added Resellers (VARs) while Emily s clients are the customers of manufacturers and VARs. Together they will explore the fundamental risk for many UC projects such as underestimating budgets, resources and post system(s) support. Unlike traditional IT projects that have a defined project stop date, UC is always evolving and consequently it never ends. 5 Speaker Profiles Morgan Calvert, Manger of IT at the County of Middlesex Morgan is the Manager of IT for Middlesex County, a municipal government located in Southwestern Ontario. He has been with the County for a little over 10 years 8 of which have been in a technical capacity and 2 as the department head. His technical background is in network, security and virtualization. Morgan is a very team oriented individual. He believes in promoting a culture that values teamwork, trust, respect, accountability and ultimately a positive attitude. In his experience this not only drives a productive team but allows team members to be creative, efficient and effective throughout the course of their career at Middlesex County. The spare time Morgan has, he enjoys with his wife, playing hockey and yelling Fore! on the golf course. Bill Rayburn, CAO of the County of Middlesex Bill Rayburn was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario where he met his wife Cheryl. Bill has a number of diplomas and degrees in public administration including an undergraduate degree from Queen s University in political science and a Master s degree in Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario. Bill started his career as the Chief Administrative Officer of Cobalt, Ontario at the age of years later, Bill is a veteran of municipal government after spending the last 18 years guiding the County of Middlesex as their Chief Administrative Officer. Bill has utilized all of this experience to help advise both public and privatesector organizations. Currently, Bill is Chairman of the Governance Committee for the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation. In his spare time, he advises a number of private-sector software companies, including Big Viking Games from right here in London, which was recently named a Top 100 Employer. 5

6 Emily Nielsen, President of Nielsen IT Consulting Inc. Emily Nielsen is one of Canada s leading Unified Communications Strategists. As a business owner and entrepreneur, clients benefit from her strong business acumen and her ability to align technology projects to business needs that produce superior results. Emily has a strong background in IP telephony, multimedia contact center, data/video networks, mobility applications and much more. Emily s strengths includes the development of strategic communication roadmaps and the creation, development and evaluation of RFP s. Jon Arnold, Principal of J Arnold & Associates Jon Arnold is Principal of J Arnold & Associates, an independent telecom analyst and marketing strategy consultancy. The consultancy s primary focus is on improving mind share and market share with thought leadership, market research and go-to-market planning. Core expertise is IP-based communications and disruptive technologies, such as VoIP, mobile broadband, telepresence/video, unified communications, collaboration, contact centers, session border controllers, social media and Web-based applications. JAA also works with companies for funding, M&A, strategic partnerships, and monetizing patents and intellectual property. Ben Barnes, Manger of IT at the City of Brantford Ben Barnes is the Manager of Network & Security for the City of Brantford and a graduate of Mohawk Collage with 18 years working experience in Information Technology. Starting as a Network Analyst, Ben transitioned into a hands on IT Management role covering areas such as IT Infrastructure Services and Solution delivery, Service Desk Management utilizing ITIL foundations, Network Security and Data Center Management. Ben is currently heading up the design, implementation and deployment of a Unified Communication solution at the City of Brantford for nearly 700 staff members across 34 sites. 6

7 Ryan Burton, Director of IT Planning & Client Services at Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning Ryan Burton is Director of I.T. Planning & Client Services at Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, a multi campus, post secondary institution in Toronto with about 26,000 full time students. Ryan and his team help make dreams come true through the efficient and effective application of processes, technology, and expertise. Think of them as enablers of success. Ryan is a graduate of Humber, graduating top of his class, and holds several notable industry certifications including Director, Manager, Analyst, Knowledgecentered Support, and ITIL v3. He is currently leading the rollout of a new unified communications solution affecting about 3,000 end users. Ryan is also a husband and father, an avid camper, and a fan of The Walking Dead series. Paul Van Dam, Contact Centre Architect & Unified Communications Expert at Nielsen IT Consulting Inc. Paul Van Dam is an experienced Contact Centre Architect and Unified Communications Expert with over 25 years of experience. With a background in development, implementation, sales and support, he has a wealth of technical experience and in-depth of understanding of both technical and business requirements for a wide array of technologies and manufacturers. Paul s strengths include developing strategic plans for UC and contact centres, technology education, needs analysis, system design documentation and the creation and evaluation of RFPs. 7
