How to use this Guide This Course Enrolment Guide 2014 provides you with information on when and where the units available for study in this program(s) will be offered in Enrolling in units for Read Section 3. Program Information for information on course structure and unit sequence. Take note of any prerequisite or co-requisite requirements before selecting particular units. A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the prerequisites for a unit prior to enrolling into that unit. A co-requisite is a requirement that must be met by having already passed or being concurrently enrolled in an associated unit in order to be able to enrol in the stipulated unit. If you wish to enrol into a unit for which you have not met the prerequisite or co-requisite requirements, please obtain approval from your Course Coordinator. 2. Refer to the unit listings in Section 4. Units Offered in 2014 to select your units. Take note of the study period in which units are offered. 3. You must refer to Administration & Enrolment on the ACU website ( for information on how to complete your enrolment via Student Connect. Administration & Enrolment also provides detailed information on managing your studies. 4. Log on to Student Connect and enrol ( Student Connect is a web interface allowing students to complete their ACU enrolment online. IMPORTANT NOTE Failure to enrol or re-enrol before the published due dates for re-enrolment on the ACU website ( may result in late fee penalties. Even if you are unsure of what units you need to enrol in, please ensure that you enrol or re-enrol in at least one unit before the due date. Enrolling in at least one unit by the due date will enable you to add further units, or amend your enrolment via Student Connect up until the final dates published in the Critical Dates for Variation of Enrolment on the ACU website ( Information last updated on 3-Mar-14 Page 4

Program Information The Bachelor of Business Information Systems, as a professional education program, is designed to develop students abilities in the critical areas of analysis, synthesis and communication. These are developed in the context of using Information Technologies for solving business problems and facilitating business activity. In addition, the program aims to foster an appreciation of the ethical and social contexts in line with the Mission of the University. These generic skills and foundation knowledge in the business application of information technology will provide graduates with the flexibility required to develop their careers in a rapidly changing environment. In line with the Mission of the University, graduates will also understand the ethical and social implications of the use and development of information systems. In addition to these fundamentals, the course also develops advanced knowledge and skills in at least one specialised area of Business Information Systems of direct relevance to current business practices. The units emphasises critical judgment, clear expression, ethical decision-making and concern for others, as individuals and as a community. The Core is comprised of a total of five units: Two University Core units: All students in the Bachelor of Information Systems who started their course in 2013 are required to complete the following University Core units as part of this program: UNCC100 UNCC300 Our World, Community and Vulnerability Understanding Self and Society: Contemporary Perspectives Information last updated on 3-Mar-14 Page 5
6 Two Core Curriculum Program units: These units build explicitly on the University Core units and all students in the Bachelor of Information Systems are required to complete at least two Program Core units from the following list: BUSN110 Responsible Reasoning and Communication BUSN202 Professional Ethics One Community Engagement unit: This unit reinforces the university s core curriculum units by enabling students to undertake a volunteer experience in the community and gain an appreciation of issues associated with justice and equity. All students in the Bachelor of Information Systems are required to complete the following Community Engagement Unit: BIPX100 Professional Experience A For information about Professional Experience in North Sydney please contact: Ms Louyse Hamilton, Level 10, Tenison Woods House, 8-20 Napier St. North Sydney Phone louyse.hamilton@acu.edu.au More information on the Core Curriculum please refer to Notice for students who wish to exit from a course of study other than that for which they are enrolled (a) (b) if you intend to continue with your current course, you are not permitted to exit with a lower level award, however you may request a letter from your Course Coordinator confirming that you have satisfied the requirements for the relevant lower award; if you do in fact exit with a lower level award and subsequently wish to resume your studies in the higher level course, you will be required to reapply for admission to that course in order to resume your studies. NOTES 1. MGMT100 Foundations of has replaced HRMG100 and People. The two units are incompatible. See your course coordinator for more information. 2.
