How to use this Guide This Course Enrolment Guide 2015 provides you with information on when and where the units available for study in this program(s) will be offered in Enrolling in units for Read Section 3. Program Information for information on course structure and unit sequence. Take note of any prerequisite or co-requisite requirements before selecting particular units. A prerequisite is a requirement that must be met by a student before enrolment in a stipulated unit. It is your responsibility to ensure that you meet the prerequisites for a unit prior to enrolling into that unit. A co-requisite is a requirement that must be met by having already passed or being concurrently enrolled in an associated unit in order to be able to enrol in the stipulated unit. If you wish to enrol into a unit for which you have not met the prerequisite or corequisite requirements, please obtain approval from your Course Coordinator. 2. Refer to the unit listings in Section 4. Units Offered in 2015 to select your units. Take note of the study period in which units are offered. 3. You must refer to Administration & Enrolment on the ACU website ( ) for information on how to complete your enrolment via Student Connect. Administration & Enrolment also provides detailed information on managing your studies. 4. Log on to Student Connect and enroll ( Student Connect is a web interface allowing students to complete their ACU enrolment online. IMPORTANT NOTE Failure to enroll or re-enroll before the published due dates for re-enrolment on the ACU website ( ) may result in late fee penalties. Even if you are unsure of what units you need to enroll in, please ensure that you enroll or re-enroll in at least one unit before the due date. Enrolling in at least one unit by the due date will enable you to add further units, or amend your enrolment via Student Connect up until the final dates published in the Critical Dates for Variation of Enrolment on the ACU website ( ). Program Information This course provides students with discipline-specific learning in the broader context of business studies through developing intellectual ability, an understanding of self and others and professional business skills. Students will gain specialist knowledge in at least one business discipline according to the Major(s) they choose (in the Commerce component of the dual degree), with opportunities available for wider study in businessrelated fields of study. In addition to an understanding of organisational behaviour and working within organisations, students will also gain an appreciation of the centrality of ethics and probity in commercial and interpersonal transactions. Accounting Accounting plays a vital role in the decision-making of all organisations. To become an effective, well-educated accounting professional, graduates need to be fully equipped with technical competency, analytical, communication, and leadership skills, an understanding of business ethics, and an understanding of business organisations. The accounting program at ACU is fully accredited by the CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. As a graduate, you will be ready to begin a professional career in public, corporate, notfor-profit, or governmental accounting. With the technical and analytical skills you've acquired in the program, you can begin studying for the CPA or CA examinations, which are viewed by the business community as the basic indicator of professional competence. Accounting graduates are in high demand and have excellent prospects for career advancement. When you mention marketing, most people think of consumer products. Actually, marketing is critical to any organisation because it is the art and science of defining opportunities and then convincing people to try whatever it is that an organisation chooses to offer: Vegemite, iron ore, insurance, legal services, education, charitable, not for profit, and environmental programs. As markets become more complex, volatile, and global, people who understand consumer decision-making and the management of marketing programs become essential to a successful organisation. If you choose as your major you will study various aspects such as market research and forecasting, advertising, retailing, buyer behaviour, and new product development. 6 Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE) All units in this major are only offered online. The aim of the OHSE major is not to produce qualified OHSE practitioners, but to educate business managers in detail about OHSE, and to provide a solid foundation for students to go on to become OHSE practitioners and/or researchers should they choose to do so. The emphasis is on risk assessment and management. International students must be aware of restrictions to their visa when enrolling in multimode or online units. Supply Chain (SCMgmt) Many units in this major are only offered online or at North Sydney. Supply Chain (SCMgmt), also known as Logistics, is the business planning framework for the management of material, service, information and capital flows. It includes the increasingly complex information, communication and control systems required in today's business environment. SCMgmt is critical to the success of any company which manufactures, transports, stores or handles goods. The primary aim of the major is not to produce logistics technicians, but supply chain managers - graduates capable of understanding organisational practices, governance, strategy and processes, and managing the supply chain as part of an overall business. REQUIREMENTS TO COMPLETE AWARD For information on the duration of your course, and the requirements to complete your award, please refer to the Course Rules for your program. 7 The Core Curriculum The Australian Catholic University Core Curriculum has been designed to focus on aspects of the University s identity and mission. The units emphasise critical judgment, clear expression, ethical decision-making and concern for others, as individuals and as a community. The Core is comprised of a total of five units: Two University Core units: All students in the Bachelor of Commerce are required to complete the following University Core units as part of this program: UNCC100 Our World, Community and Vulnerability UNCC300 Understanding Self and Society: Contemporary Perspectives Two Core Curriculum Program units: These units build explicitly on the University Core units and all students in the Bachelor of Commerce are required to complete at least two Program Core units from the following list: BUSN110 Responsible Reasoning and Communication BUSN202 Ethics One Community Engagement unit: This unit reinforces the university s core curriculum units by enabling students to undertake a volunteer experience in the community and gain an appreciation of issues associated with justice and equity. 8 Notice for students who wish to exit from a course of study other than that for which they are enrolled (a) (b) if you intend to continue with your current course, you are not permitted to exit with a lower level award, however you may request a letter from your Course Coordinator confirming that you have satisfied the requirements for the relevant lower award; if you do in fact exit with a lower level award and subsequently wish to resume your studies in the higher level course, you will be required to reapply for admission to that course in order to resume your studies. 13 4. Units Offered in 2015 The Faculty of Law and Business reserves the right to withdraw a unit from offering or to change this pattern according to student demand and staff availability. In such cases students will be notified and given the opportunity to register in an alternative unit. IMPORTANT NOTE University Core Units: UNCC100 Our World, Community and Vulnerability and UNCC300 Understanding Self and Society: Contemporary Perspectives a) UNCC units are often taught over differing week patterns to allow for student placements at various times during semester. Students should take special care to note the week pattern of tutorials when they allocate in tutorial direct to ensure that they are choosing the correct stream for their course b) Please consult with your Course Coordinator if the following applies to you: You need to repeat a UNCC unit due to a previous fail grade. You are unable to complete a UNCC unit during the standard semester it is offered. You plan to enrol in an advertised international option specific to the Core. Delivery Modes: Attendance Primarily attendance, either face-to-face or via video conference, at an ACU campus or another location.
