Well, that s not only true for airline travel. Those of us in the arts could consider saying the same. As residents of the country s 4 th largest city, we have many worthwhile ways to spend our few precious evenings out. That s why for twenty years we have dedicated ourselves to making you feel glad you chose the Houston Chamber Choir - by striving to present programs that are inventive, inviting, and memorable. 20 and Counting! Over the next few pages you will find a season that offers an audience pick of favorite musical moments from the past twenty years, the debut appearance with the Chamber Choir of acclaimed choral conductor Anton Armstrong, dramatic music by Benjamin Britten and Mexican masters, our annual Christmas at the Villa concerts, and our season finale featuring four-time Grammy award winning jazz bassist Christian McBride, who is writing a ground-breaking piece for us and his trio that will receive its world premiere that night. We have great fun preparing these widely varying programs, but the real thrill is sharing them with you. 5 Season 20 th Anniversary Now and Then The First 20 Years 20 and Counting! Sunday, September 20, 2015, 4:00 pm South Main Baptist Church, Houston, Texas The Houston Chamber Choir was founded by a band of adventurous and gifted trailblazers. We open our season with a tribute to them: the musicians, board members, and supporters who, over the years, have built it into one of the leading professional ensembles in the United States. The program features musical highlights spanning our two decades. Founded in 1995 by Robert Simpson The Chamber Choir sings its first concert on June 25, 1995

Building on its successful 2014 debut at Miller Outdoor Theatre, the Houston Chamber Choir pays tribute to one of America s greatest performers, Frank Sinatra, who would turn 100 in The Choir will sing Sinatra favorites from the Big Band era to his later chart toppers, including Strangers in the Night, Come Fly with Me, and My Way, staples of his Las Vegas nightclub act.

We pay tribute to this acclaimed conductor of the St. Olaf Choir for his faith in us as he leads the Chamber Choir in works by choral masters from Bach to today s leading composers. 10 Hear the Future 17 th Annual Invitational School Choral Festival Sunday, January 31, 2016, 4:00 pm Grace Presbyterian Church, Houston Texas FREE ADMISSION! A highlight of the season is always the school invitational choral festival, Hear the Future. Each year an outstanding elementary, middle school, and high school choir are invited to perform. Each ensemble offers a 15-minute program, followed by a performance by the Houston Chamber Choir. The choirs combine for the concert finale. This year s invitees are Parker Elementary with the Rusk School Choir, conducted by Marianna Parnas Simpson; Nolan Ryan Junior High School s Longhorn Choir, directed by Jennifer Gallagher; and the Cypress Ranch Chorale, directed by Cynthia Douglas.
