8 Bow and Stern Thrusters Marinas are becoming more crowded and slips have become tighter. Thrusters enable easier and safer docking. Wood, steel, GRP or aluminium hulls can be easily retro-fitted with a suitable thruster. Bow Thrusters A bow thruster is an electrically or hydraulically driven lateral operating propeller that allows the bow of a boat to move sideways. By operating a joystick or remote control, the bow of the boat will move either port or starboard. A bow thruster gives positive control of the boat, even at low speed, in different wind, current or tight docking conditions. Stern Thrusters The availability of side-directional thruster in the bow and stern enhances the manoeuvrability of a boat and enables superior control.
