- Save lives and reduce material damage
Small droplets reduce heat to a minimum Ultra Fog s high pressure water fog sprinkler system is based on water being sprayed through special nozzles at high pressure. The droplets created by these nozzles are extremely small. The area is filled with vapourised water and the fire will be extinguished rapidly. The small water fog droplets are converted into steam by the heat at an early stage of the fire. The amount of oxygen in the air is greatly reduced as a result of the increasing levels of steam. Furthermore, the water fog will create an over-pressure in the area, thus preventing fresh air from entering. In this way, the fire is suffocated and the water fog provides extremely effective cooling of both the area on fire and any surrounding objects. The smaller the droplets are, the earlier in the course of the fire the water fog is turned into steam, and the quicker the fire can be extinguished. Ultra Fog AB specialises in the design of high pressure water fog sprinkler systems for safer fire protection and fire fighting in on board and on shore facilities. Our headquarters are located in Gothenburg, Sweden, where all development, construction and manufacturing is carried out. Effective fire fighting is becoming more and more important in our world, to protect people as well as property. Water fog sprinkler systems are more effective than conventional sprinklers, and all kinds of fires are quickly extinguished. Ultra Fog AB provides customized solutions for water fog sprinkler systems to suit all needs. We are constantly developing our products to provide even better fire protection and higher quality for our customers. It is our opinion at Ultra Fog that good and safe fire protection requires both passive and active measures to be in sync. We also strongly believe in the importance of early triggering of the active fire protection system. It saves lives and reduces material damage. Ultra Fog provides its users with an advanced fire protection system with several different methods of fire detection and activation. The water fog sprinkler system can be customized for different environments and applications, and can be used to protect accommodation areas according to IMO Res A800(19) on boats and ships of all sizes. It can also be used to protect machinery areas up to 3,348 m 3 according to IMO MSC Circ In larger machinery areas, Ultra Fog can be used as local protection according to IMO MSC 913, since water fog is effective against fires in oils and other fluids, but is still entirely harmless. For example, it can be used for deep fat fryers. Ultra Fog AB has developed a system that fills sections of machinery areas, particularly the bilge, with foam in the event of fire. This system is used as a complement to the water fog system and is integrated with the rest of the Ultra Fog system. Ultra Fog s water fog sprinkler systems have been installed in many different types of boats and ships, for example yachts, passenger ferries, tankers and a replica 16th century ship.
Ultra Fog is a genuine water fog system, with all the advantages the technology provides. The sprinkler systems are designed to provide fire protection for passenger and guest accommodation areas, machinery areas and local protection of high risk areas. Ultra Fog systems for special applications are also used in areas outside the fire protection range. The Ultra Fog systems have proved to be successful, for example, in protecting in protecting vessels, offshore platforms, machinery areas and turbine enclosures. Ultra Fog is the solution of choice, particularly for applications where superior fire suppression performance, easy installation and minimal water damage are key benefits. Ultra Fog s technology provides safety for people, property and the environment in many diffrerent applications. It is backed-up by a dedicated team, whose aim it is to provide customer satisfaction. There are 3 different sprinkler system categories on the market: Ultra Fog has a range of working pressures, from 60 bar up to 150 bar, depending on what type of application the system is designed for. Normal working pressure is approx. 120 bar. This flexibility is possible due to the unique technology and design of the Ultra Fog nozzle. Ultra Fog systems are of the single fluid type, which means that only one set of pipework is necessary, which simplifies installation and maintenance. The water is easily supplied by pressurised cylinder arrangements, pumps or a combination of the two. Ultra Fog s Nozzle Range Ultra Fog offers a unique range of fog nozzles, designed for a wide variety of applications. The nozzle causes no loss in power; all energy is used to create the water fog. No moving parts are used in the nozzles, which contributes to high reliability of the system. All Ultra Fog nozzle types have been extensively tested by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) in the US. The patented Ultra Fog nozzle technology and design is unique on the market. 10 good reasons for choosing Ultra Fog 1. Major cooling effect when the water droplets transform into vapour. 2. Very high extinguishing effect - relative to the amount of water. Less damage to equipment and faster restoration. FACTS Ultra Fog Water Fog Sprinkler System: Droplet size: from 10 Microns up to 200 Microns. Working pressure: between bar. Low pressure system Conventional water sprinklers Working pressure below 12 bar. This type of system has at least 5 l/m 2 min of water consumption. Medium pressure system Mist waterspray The pressure range is from 12 bar up to 40 bar. Water consumption is at least 50-70% of conventional 3. Fast extinguishing - Fast sprinklers with low RTI value or by detectors. 4. Rarefied oxygen in the fire zone, through the water fog. 5. Over-pressure is produced in the space, which prevents new oxygen from joining the fire. 6. Flashover will be avoided by the water fog. Water consumption: 85 90% less compared to a conventional system. Pipe dimensions: from 8 mm to max. 50 mm. Extremely low weight: including water 90% less compared to a conventional water sprinkler system. water sprinkler systems. High pressure system Water fog The pressure range is from 40 bar up to 100/150/200 bar. The difference between mist and fog is the size of the droplets. Ultra Fog MicroX3 pump station, bar Total weight and amount of water reduced to a minimum Extremely high cooling effect 7. Reduced drain and scupper dimensions. The amount of dirty extinguished water will be kept to a minimum. 8. Environmentally friendly and safe - no toxins. Pump station, Pressurized Accumulators or a combination of both. More than 85% extinguishing effect will be reached when the droplets become steam. Fog has on average smaller droplets than mist. A high pressure water fog system has several advantages over the low and medium pressure systems, such as: The grade of heat expansion Size of drain and scupper systems reduced to a minimum Small pipe dimension 9. At sea, stability problems are reduced to a minimum. 10. Simple installation. Discreet piping system. Requires no hot work. 1,700 litres of water steam will be produced for each litre of water.
Conventional low pressure water spray or sprinkler systems can cause considerable water damage, which often is more extensive than the actual fire damage. Extinguishing fires with water fog is a superior method to most alternatives, through its efficiency and cleanliness. Ultra Fog AB has developed a number of different systems, for various different areas of application:: Ultra Fog for Accommodation Areas - IMO Res A800(19) Ultra Fog systems for accommodation areas can be activated in different ways, according to the Ultra Fog design of systems. When a nozzle is activated, the working pressure automatically increases to approx bar and the water fog is spread from the nozzle head(s). A signal is simultaneously sent to the control panel on the bridge. The water fog continues to be released until the pump(s) is/are turned off manually. Ultra Fog for Total Protection of Machinery Areas - IMO MSC/Circ. 1165, and Local Protection - IMO MSC/Circ. 913 For the protection of machinery and local risk areas, Ultra Fog s system is comprised of either pump(s) or cylinders, depending on the risk and the applicable regulations. Activation of the systems is manual and also by automatic release via the Local Protection System. Ultra Fog for Special Protection Ultra Fog has developed a number of different local protection systems. For example, deep fat fryers in accordance with ISO 15371, Gallery Duct protection, grill equipment, computer rooms, etc. Systems can be designed to operate with either a single nozzle or a group of nozzles. Open nozzles are normally used. Ultra Fog System Design Triggering can be set via a modern fire alarm system with a typical trigger time far below 60 seconds for normal fires. This is the ULTRA FOG INTEL- LIGENT SYSTEM, corresponding to IMO MSC circ Alternatively, the Ultra Fog system can be triggered by the quick response glass bulb, the ULTRA FOG CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM. The third alternative, when both these triggering methods are combined in a joint system concept, is the ULTRA FOG COMBINED SYSTEM. The aim of the fire extinction system is to save lives and property. Therefore it is extremely important that the system works smoothly. Our ambition is to deliver and install systems and service of the highest possible quality and best possible functionality. Service and maintenance With regular maintenance of the sprinkler system, you are ensuring full operational reliability in the event of a fire. The guarantee for operational reliability is Ultra Fog s qualified technicians and service staff that carry out the maintenance and service. This is to avoid faults remaining undiscovered until the day a fire breaks out, something that can lead to major losses. A service contract with Ultra Fog is the safest way to maintain the fog sprinkler system in its ultimate operative condition. Included in this contract are regular check-ups, and the service experts we employ are trained by us on our unique systems and components. The system operators carry out regular minor checks, such as ocular inspections and minor testing. Our certified service technicians take on more comprehensive service work and annual maintenance. Ultra Fog original quality The core of our fog sprinkler system is the unique components, individually and together. It takes a range of different components to create the perfect sprinkler system, and a system is no stronger than its smallest part. A pre-requisite for safe operation and high performance is that Ultra Fog s own original parts are used in the system. All components, such as nozzles, pumps, cylinders, electric contacts and manoeuvre panels are manufactured in our own workshop or by approved subcontractors. Ultra Fog s suppliers manufacture according to ISO We keep a comprehensive range of spare parts in stock to be able to provide the best possible service if something needs to be replaced quickly. When we install a system, we also offer an individual package with Ultra Fog original parts for your fog sprinkler system. That way, you always have direct access to important components for high operational reliability when you really need it! Ultra Fog s sprinkler system is your guarantee for high quality and reliable performance.
T R E & C O M P A N Y The Ultra Fog Water Fog System is rated as Class 1 according to the National Fire Protection Association Code (NFPA, USA). Basically, it means that Ultra Fog has the smallest average droplet size, which ensures effective fire fighting performance. Ultra Fog s Water Fog System has been fire tested by the Swedish Test Laboratory (SP) and Sintef, Norway, both of which are fully authorised by IMO. Ultra Fog has been tested and approved according to the IMO Res. A.800 (19), for accommodation areas, stores and service areas. IMO and MSC circ. 847 activation by detectors as an alternative to the glass bulb. IMO, MSC circ and MSC circ. 913, machinery areas and pump rooms. A Performance Effectiveness Analysis was carried out by DNV, Norway. Component by the laboratory of UL, USA. Our test procedures began in 1992 and are constantly being renewed in order to find new areas that need protecting by our exceptional water fog systems.
