3 INTRODUCTION Shree Chanakya Education Society (SCES) was established in February 1994 by Dr.Tarita Shankar with the aim of providing top quality education in the fields of Commerce,Business Management, International Business and Information Technology. Under the wings of Shree Chanakya Education Society (SCES), Indira College of Commerce and Indira College of Science were established in the year 2001 which was merged in the year 2007 as Indira College of Commerce and Science. Indira College of Commerce And Science (ICCS) - Affiliated and approved by University of Pune, ICCS offers the Bachelor's Program in Commerce, Bachelors in Business Administration, Business Management ( International Business ) & Computer Application, Computer Science, Master s program in Computer Science, Computer Application, Commerce and PG diploma Courses in Banking, Taxation and Finance. ICCS has been accredited with B grade by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) under CGPA in The well-architected campus is spread over 5 acres with independent departments, spacious classrooms, well equipped library with a vast collection of books, latest journals and periodicals and a huge collection of CD s, laboratory with all new acquainted technical configurations. A well designed auditorium having capacity of 540 persons with all new technical equipments is the main highlight in which various programs i.e. academic and cultural are carried out, hostels for girls and boys having capacity of approx 690 students. Indira College of commerce & Science is having well developed IT Infrastructure which has superb facilities for all Students helping them in broadening their vision towards technology. We provide Microsoft Live@edu accounts for all the students & Staff to stay in touch with each other. ICCS provides Excellent LAB setup for students; a separate computer is accessible by individual. Updated Software is being used in the LAB as per University of Pune Syllabus, e.g. SCILAB, MATLAB for practical. Hardware Firewall successfully upgraded for viruses, spam and network broadcast with UPS backup. Sports facilities are also availed by students which comprises of a sports room in which Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess, Bow and Arrow and various other games are played by students. Extra-Curricular activities which boost the self-confidence of students and brings out the creativity and talent in the students are carried out which comprises of participation of students in various competitions in other colleges. Debating Competition is organized every year in the memory of Late Shri Shankarrao Wakalkar, Indira College of Commerce & Science, Pune 3

4 famous educationist. Gusto is a Management and IT Tech festival which is full of Energy, Excellence & Power at Par with huge number of participants from various colleges. Tech Savvy, an interclass C language programming competition and PI Approximation Day Math s Quiz Competition which is observed on July 22, due to π being roughly equal to 22/7 is organized every year. Poster competition, paper presentation competition in commerce etc. Co-Curricular activities include National Service Scheme (NSS) whose aim is to strengthen the student interest for rural society as well as participation in social activities that build India. Since inception, the Institutes managed by SCES, have maintained high academic standards and have successfully provided trained manpower to the industrial and services sector of the country. 5 PART A The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of an institution s system and work towards realizing the goals of quality enhancement and sustainability. In the coming year, a concentrated emphasis will be on the following: 1. Parameters for the student s feedback and students assessment is improvised according to which feedback will be taken from students and the result will be given to faculty in writing with individual counseling for further improvement. 2. Students skill set enhancement activities like state level Debating Competition, NSS, Gusto (Intercollegiate Management/ IT / Cultural program) will be conducted in the month of January As a philanthropic act, ICCS will contribute some amount from its sponsorship to socially deprived and disabled community like BAL KALYAN SANSTHAN 3. As per the discussion held in IQAC meeting, department wise academic and activity planners will be prepared and given to concerned committee members for further implementation. 4. The Lingua phone package (Language Lab) will be used to enhance the language and teaching skills of staff members. 5. To renew industrial tie-ups (Management, IT, Commerce, Social) and go for further development. 6. As First Year Examination process is delegated to college and to enhance the functionality of admin, our staff will be trained in automation of examination process. 7. Registration of Alumni Association of ICCS is in process. An Online process will be initiated for Alumni Registration and to be in better contact Institute will provide them -id on College Domain. 8. To contribute to the efforts towards environmental awareness and social development a project Vasundhara is put forward for third edition. Indira College of Commerce & Science, Pune 5

6 9. To enhance the efficiency and accessibility in admission process of institute, an Online Admission Form will be uploaded on college Web site and online payment can be made. 10. To Organize Hemoglobin (Hb) Check up camp and distribute iron folic acid pills to anemic girls in the Rihe Village, Rihe Village which is adopted for social developments. 11. To take a lead towards the effective syllabus and will conduct workshop for syllabus restructuring. 12. To motivate faculties for applying BCUD funded Research proposals to enhance their research work and knowledge. Indira College of Commerce & Science, Pune 6

The Vision and Mission statement of Indira College of Commerce and Science is Vision To create a centre of academic excellence in the field of Management and IT education with the purpose of fulfilling the industry requirement through the holistic development of the future performers who are also good human beings, and possesses right knowledge, Skill sets and attitude towards their work and life. Mission To promote a learning environment that welcomes and honors men and women from diverse cultures for involving themselves in intellectual inquisitiveness, explore knowledge dimensions for future applications in industry, business and life. To develop managers and entrepreneurs in the field of management and IT Education, who can serve as engines of national and global economic growth and innovation. To foster strategic alliances with industry for research and its application. To inculcate the ethical, social and moral values in all our stakeholders this is the basis of humane social order In attempt to fulfill its mission, the college has set for itself the following goals: 1. To impart quality education through traditional and innovative learning practices. 2. To provide a dynamic and creative academic environment to tap and nurture talent for the development of professional skills and an all round personality. 3. To inculcate good moral values and a sense of nationalism in keeping the view of the glorious heritage of the institution. Indira College of Commerce and Science in collaboration with Microsoft Live Edu have given college ids to all ICCS students for educational purpose with the 25GB online memory on sky drive. Through this scheme, students can communicate with their respective teachers regarding the studies, assignments, projects, presentations etc. Also, students get notices, lecture time table and exam schedules on their ids. Guest Lectures are conducted for all students. The basic motive is to inspire students and boost their abilities to gain more knowledge and faster learning. The guests were invited l from industries and academic areas to share their valuable guidelines and thoughts. 8 Examination. by Prof. Kiran Manjre. The Head of the P.G. Department in M.N.C.C.Pune on 8th August,2011. The guest lecture was on Study techniques and career guidance. By Mr. Ankit Kumar. The Head of HR Dept. Tech Mahindra.He share very important aspect of career for students. It was oragnised on 25th August,2011. In second semester Prof. Gautami Pawar,HOD English Dept. Garware College Pune conducted a Guest lecture on Communication Skills. It was very interactive session which students liked and responded positively. The co-ordinator of Soft-Skills Program, University of Pune, Prof. Umesh Jagadale, H.O.D. English Dept. Sangamner College delivered a very useful speech on Speaking Skills in English Language on 8 th Feb The guest lectures were useful for the development of the students. Lecture Series was organized for MSc(C.S.) Students under QIP, University of Pune. The Eminent speakers were Dr. S.S. Kadam, Prof Tamhankar, Prof. Ranjit Patil, Prof. S.G. Lakhdive, Prof. Chitra Nagarkar from 30 th Jan 2012 to 27 th Mar Indira College of Commerce and Science have completed a project in Environmental Awareness titled VASUNDHARA-III, which is done by the students of S. Y. B. Sc. (Computer Science) under the guidance of Prof. Janardan Pawar and Prof. Amar Dhere. Also, ICCS had arranged the industrial visits to various companies / industries for the students of BBA/BCA/B.Com/BBM (IB) /B.Sc (CS) &M.Sc. (C.S)/M.C.A./M.Com. Like- C-DAC, JNPT, Bharat Forge, AllScripts etc. Industrial Visit- CDAC ICCS students (M.Sc.(CS), MCA) visited CDAC Insitute at University of Pune on 3rd April C-DAC is a center for Computer Development of Advanced Computing. It was set in 1988 and has completed 24 years of establishment. We saw previous and current existing super-computer architecture. We learnt in detail about the Param- Yuva. It carries a price tag of Rs 25 crore. Latest Param Yuva supercomputer, with a speed of 54 tera flops. Param Yuva super computer uses 1 MW of power. It caters to various applications in computational fluid, dynamics, weather forecasting, bioinformatics, finite element analysis, ocean seismic modelling, material modelling, national database of various kinds, e-governance, telemedicine, network applications and a host of high speed activities. Quiz Competition on Mathematics on account of π approximation day. 2. University Level Statistics Quiz Competition was organized. 3. Programming competition Tech-savvy. 4. Poster competition. 5. 11 MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate) the training program for Microsoft certifications which was launched last year, was oversubscribed and license of 1000 examinations was completed before its tenure. Anticipating huge response for the same MTA Tie-up was renewed with 3 more modules comprising another 1000 examinations. The modules are 1).net certifications 2) Mobile gaming 3) OS Fundamentals( Windows 7) Apart from this HP certification for faculty was introduced in following verticals 1) Server Storage 2) Connecting Devices 3) Network solutions ICCS has its own placement cell which gives the information to the students about the companies and their requirements. It also provides training regarding aptitude, communications skills, etiquettes etc, to the student which is essential for better placement. In good number of students got placed in various companies like TCS, igate-patni,, KPIT, Wipro, Saama, eclerx, Ardor IT Solutions, Steria, Infosys, Nvidea, Syntel, Decos, Bit wise solutions, Tavisca, MicroTeck, Web Tech, CapGemini and RedKnee Solutions etc. Tavisca has offered highest package for M.Sc. Students (4.2L) ICCS has launched career guidance cell which will assist the students for competitive examinations, and will intimate students for vacancies or career opportunities in various sectors. The Cell was inaugurated by Mr. Avinash Dharmadhikari, Former IAS Officer. 2. New Academic programmes initiated (UG and PG). UG PG Nil MCA (Science) with intake of 30 students PG Diploma in Finance, Banking, Taxation with intake of 60 students each. Indira College of Commerce & Science, Pune 11

12 3. Innovation in curricular design and transaction. The Syllabi for various courses were designed by the University of Pune. Various Faculty members from our college took active participation in the restructuring and designing of the syllabus. (A) STAFF ACADEMY For academic enrichment of faculties, to enhance interdisciplinary interactions and to give exposure to their talents, Staff Academy has been formed in ICCS. The members of the staff academy are always exposed to current affairs and updated knowledge by arranging lectures of eminent personalities. Through this academy we conduct various programs and activities for our staff members in various areas i.e. Technical, Management, Industrial and Open forum by inviting renowned guest speakers. The following programs were conducted under Staff Academy: 1. Educational and Recreational tour of all the staff members to Adventure Plus club near Bhor in Pune District. Activities and sessions conducted to facilitate the motivational spirit and interpersonal relations. 2. ABHIVYAKTI, an activity of all staff members was organized in college. Staff members participated in poetry reading, story narration, singing and quiz competition. 3. Address of notable speaker and former IAS officer Mr. Avinash Dhrmadhikari on Role of Students in Modern India. His sparkling words motivated staff members for their academic endeavors. 4. Dr. Jadhavar, Dean of Commerce, University of Pune addressed staff members on syllabus development and curriculum implementation for the effective teaching and learning process. Community Services: A) National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Camp- Shree Chanakya Education Society s Indira College of Commerce and Science, Pune organized seven days NSS Camp (24 th December2011 to 30 th December,2011) at Rihe (Tahasil- Mulshi, Dist-Pune). NSS camp is made successful by participation of fifty-five students and four faculty members. 26 Day First: 24 th December, NSS camp departed from Indira Universe campus to Rihe at 12:30pm. Campaigner cleaned and washed the residence at Temple and Zilla Parishad Primary School rooms. NSS camp was inaugurated same day in the evening at 5:00pm with the hands of honorable Shri. Maruti Padalghare, Dr.(Mrs.) Anjali Kalkar, Principal, Indira College of Commerce and Science talked her views in this occasion. Many villagers grace this occasion and give words for success of this camp Day Second: 25 th December, NSS campaigner has morning prayers and organised the group campaigns like group discussions on various subjects, review of book and opinion on the book. We noted their views on the national service scheme. After breakfast Prof. Chnadrashekhar Pawar from YASHDA, Pune conduct a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) programme. Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is an approach used by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other agencies involved in international development. The approach aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of rural people in the planning and management of development projects and programmes. The techniques are divided in the following category- Group dynamics, e.g. learning contracts, role reversals, feedback sessions Sampling, e.g. transect walks, wealth ranking, social mapping Interviewing, e.g. focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, triangulation Visualization e.g. venn diagrams, matrix scoring, timelines. Day Third: 26 th December, After morning prayers and group activites students are gather to clean Kaniphnath temple and Bhairavnath temple. These are old temples without proper care. Temple area covered with full of grasses and small bushes. In afternoon Shri. Ashok Bhosale, Teacher SM School, Akluj delivered a lecture on Superstitions in rural areas. Shri. Ashok Bhosale explains myths of science in superstition with live examples. Rihe villagers and school students are got the benefit of these important events. Day Fourth: 27 th December, The Campaigners are presented the skets, songs and lectures on the total sanitation programme. Through that they are create awareness for the open defecation and health consequences. Prof. Praveen Pargaonkar, SNDT College deliver seminar on Psychological Stability of School children. In evening Dr.(Mrs.) Anjali Kalkar, Principal, Indira College of Commerce and Science interact with volunteers on importance of morning and evening prayers for improving confidence during study. Day Fifth: 28 th December, Students are divided in to groups and assign the responsibility to clean whole. There are three groups from morning working to clean the village roads, bus stop, wash the sewers and fill the road potholes. This work going on late evening. Then students arrange the camp fire to fun and joy during social activities. Shri. Ganesh Ghadge, student of M.Sc. (Comp. Sci.) deliver lecture over Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj for school childrens. In afternoon 80 year old Rihe villager Shri. Balasheab Bodake show his Danad patta skills to volunteers. Dandpatta is an Indian sword with a gauntlet integrated as a hand guard. Traditionally, Maratha warriors were trained to fight with dual patas by bearing one in each hand. Alternatively, a single pata was used in addition to a belt, javelin or axe in the other hand. This combination of dual weapons was referred to as dand patta. Day Six: 29 th December, Indira College of Commerce and Science s NSS unit had organised camps of Blood Donation, hemoglobin check up and free distribution of the spectacle with the help of Poona Serological Institute. In which 32 people including NSS campaigners donated blood and more than 100 people checked their hemoglobin. The eighty (80) spectacles are distributed after checking the eye. Also 100 people are get benefitted for checking the eyes. Day Seven: 30 th December, Morning students enjoy tracking of mountains with the faculties. All students successfully done climbing and walking on the mountain. Student s call this rejuvenates them and creates their interest in tracking. After all sweet memories our NSS camp is over. B) Regular Activities- 1. Ahinsha Din- Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary is celebrated as Ahinsha Din. This is celebrated in the 2 nd Oct.2011 cycle rally. 2. After months of preparation, tons of s, hundreds of Phone calls, the Alumni Meet Nostalgia , was organised by the Indira College of Commerce and Science on 4 th of Feb The vision behind Nostalgia that got the cogwheels rotating was the need for an event where students could freely interact with Alumni and gain from their wisdom. More than 350 alumni s who graduated from the College over the past 6-7 years from around Pune had participated in this meeting. 41 31. Activities and support from the Parent Teacher Association: Parent teacher meet was organized for two weeks by different courses in the month of October and January. It was held after completion of the exams and result declaration. The parent s who stay far away or were not able to come on a specific day, filled up the form on their arrival in Pune throughout the year. The parent s met with the respective class teachers and discussed about the attendance, performance, behavior, career prospects of the students. Parents were also free to discuss some personal or financial problems with the Teachers. Subject teachers also met with the parents of those students who are very weak in the particular subject to discuss the future course of action. Parents also gave their feedback, comments, and suggestions and were satisfied with the response of the organization. A team of the doctors provide voluntary services as per the need/demand. Moreover, Free Medical Checkup camps, AIDs Awareness programmes, Blood Donation Camps, Blood Group Check up Camps, Medicine bank Etc. are carried out by the NSS Unit of the College. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit: Taking into consideration, recent competitive scenario and family expectations a session was conducted by Prof Janardan Pawar, Vice Principal on topic How to reduce stress and increase efficiency. To provide information relevant to personal development. To create and update student records and database relevant to guidance and counseling purposes. 37. Placement services provided to the students. ICCS has maintained its prolific and deterministic approach towards enrichment and enhancement of Indiraites through campus placements, extracurricular activities, personality development along with academic excellence in the field of education trouncing over the comprehensive cut-throat competition. In order to open new avenue of career, ICCS has joined hands with industries, institutes and alumni through more interactions, workshops and visits. From placement perspective, academic year turns out to be a milestone in the history of INDIRA as 20 prominent companies of India and the globe visited the ICCS campus and recruited overall 100 aspirant Indiraites. It is indeed an honor to achieve best placements in the best of the industry, among the eligible candidates, from the very first batch passing out of the college. Our students are placed in leading companies viz. TCS, L&T, Patni computers, Tech Mahindra, KPIT, Wipro, Symantec, Cognizant, Edelweiss Broking, HDFC Standard Life and the list gets elongate further.
