The Business in China Intensive School (BICIS) provides students with the skills, knowledge and experiences to be able to interact with the China market with an indepth understanding of Eastern and Western management practices. What are the Benefits? Accelerate your MBA by completing BICIS, the equivalent of two MBA courses Develop an important knowledge and skill set for doing business in China Experience first-hand the fastest growing economy in the world Network with expatriates working in China and other study tour participants: managers and executives from a range of industries and business backgrounds. Who can participate in BICIS? MBA Students are expected to have completed at least four MBA courses before attending BICIS. Special cases may be considered at the discretion of the Program Director. Members of the business community interested in attending BICIS to gain the insight and experience of taking part in the course, without being enrolled in the MBA program, may be treated as non-award participants rather than students. Participants interested in completing an award at UniSA should discuss their options for credit for BICIS with the MBA Program Director. When will BICIS take place? 4 16 April 2011 (dates inclusive)

2 Where will BICIS be held? BICIS will be conducted in Shanghai and Beijing, the business, political, educational and cultural centres of China, rich in both history and business opportunity. In Shanghai BICIS teaching will take place at Donghua University (DHU). In Beijing BICIS is conducted in conjunction with the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS). As BICIS is residential, all students are required to stay in twin share three star hotel accommodation with private toilet and shower facilities. Single room occupancy is available at an additional charge to the student. What will I learn from BICIS? BICIS will give students a structured approach to understanding how business and management is conducted in the Chinese economy including: Opportunities and challenges of doing business in China China in the world economy Environmental aspects of doing business in China: political, financial, legal, cultural, industrial and market factors Internalisation aspects of doing business in China: entrepreneurial behaviours, innovation, management and technology utilisation Chinese negotiation and communication styles Special topics on Chinese Consumer Behaviour and Chinese Relationship Management (Guanxi) How will BICIS be conducted? Format of BICIS BICIS will be delivered through a combination of seminars, case studies, group work, panel discussions and simulation. Learning activities will be complemented by presentations from guest speakers and visits to local business and government. Students will be provided with a comprehensive set of study materials and required readings. There will be opportunities for sampling the rich culture in China in both Shanghai and Beijing through organised cultural tours and activities. Expectations of Students Students are required to attend all seminars, workshops and participate in class discussion, case analysis, group work, presentations as well as attend the key cultural components. BICIS involves rigorous coursework and assessment before, during and after the two weeks in China.

Experiencing the language barrier and living in hotels where English is not so useful fires the need to learn and adapt. For me an experienced China person, this course filled in several knowledge gaps and linked together many of the pieces in the China puzzle. Kevin Gardner (Online MBA) I chose to attend BICIS 2009 to differentiate my MBA with international experience. I enjoy working with, and learning from different cultures and BICIS offered this and so much more. The diversity of the group was fantastic and included a number of people who travel regularly to China, meaning we could leverage 'real life' experience in group discussions, and the experience of the networks developed during BICIS, after the course. The program did a good job of supporting the theory by including guest speakers, work place visits and attendance at networking events. There was also time for cultural visits - I found this experience to be most rewarding as I really felt like I lived and breathed working in China for the duration of the course.
