What is this course about? 1.1 Course description This course will give you insight into salient factors for sustainable entrepreneurial growth of a venture. You form and operate a simulated company with a view to developing important skills necessary for the operation and growth of an entrepreneurial venture. You will explore and reflect on your learning related to all aspects of entrepreneurial activity including: Strategy & Tactics, Policy, Production, Accounting, Marketing, Finance, Quality Control, Human Resources, Leadership and Teamwork in a laboratory style think, play, evaluate and re-do environment. 1.2 Course content the importance of growth to the sustainability of a new venture the venture life cycle orientation to Capsim and operating Capsim growth strategy, industry analysis and market attractiveness product management and marketing interpreting financial ratios and decision-making Operations Management and Human Resource Management Total Quality Management (TQM) and Innovation Interpreting Capsim new venture reports for decision-making Personal and teamwork approach to entrepreneurship Effectual and Causal approaches to entrepreneurial decision-making Failure, reflection and entrepreneurial learning Entrepreneurship in practice: Panel of growth entrepreneurs 2. Develop and implement an effective strategy to achieve double digit growth in the Capsim simulation. Demonstrate an understanding of entrepreneurial dilemmas and recommend resolutions. Goal: Product: Format: Criteria To determine factors, under the entrepreneur s control, influencing double digit growth in the sustainable operation of a venture, based on theory and your simulation experience. Click here to enter the statement of the task and clarify what the students will create. Report This is an individual assessment. Details of the report is provided on the course site. The report will be assessed on the following criteria: Analysis of controllable factors that influence double digit growth Justification of arguments, using theory and personal Capsim experience Evaluate the relative importance of these factors Clarity of communication Organisation of report Skill assessment level Developing Graduate Generic skill assessed Problem solving Communication Assessment Task 2: Operate Capstone Foundation for 8 Rounds at a double digit growth rate Goal: Product: Format: Criteria To operate the simulation, Capsim for 8 rounds at double digit sales growth.. Capsim simulation results after 8 rounds. This is an individual assessment, based on the online business simulation Capsim. SimIDs are provided by the Course Coordinator, so you can register online at Consult for detailed requirements. The report will be assessed on the following criteria: Demonstrate learning by achieving superior Balanced Scorecard scores on customer, financial, learning and growth and business process dimensions. Demonstrate proficiency in growing a venture through superior financial growth ratios.
4 Page 4 Generic skill assessed Problem solving Skill assessment level Graduate Assessment Task 3: Role Play: Perform an entrepreneurship challenge and how to resolve that issue. Goal: To demonstrate insight into a particular entrepreneurship challenge and potential resolution there-of, using a short dramatic performance or theatrical sketch. Product: Role Play in class. Details are provided on the course site. Format: This is a group assessment. Criteria Assessment of the role play will be based on the following criteria: Understanding of an appropriate entrepreneurship challenge and resolution Debriefing the audience Application of personal entrepreneurship skills such as confidence, decision-making and initiative Application of relational skills such as communication, team leadership and membership, as well as active listening. Demonstrated professionalism. Clarity of communication Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Communication Graduate Problem solving Graduate 5.3 Additional assessment requirements SafeAssign In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks are submitted electronically via SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. If required, details of how to submit via SafeAssign will be provided on the site of the course. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome.
