4 Ladies and Gentlemen, It is our great pleasure to announce the Third Wanda Landowska International Harpsichord Competition to take place in Warsaw, on September 11 19, 2004, at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music. The Competition is designed to attract outstanding young harpsichordists from around the world. The Jury will consist of eminent artists, harpsichordists personalities from the musical world, representing a number of different countries. Your are our best contact with those musicians who can compete at this level and we would be most grateful for your help in spreading the word to candidates the most qualified to apply. 5 COMPETITION RULES 1. The Competition is open to all harpsichordists born after 31 st of December Application form, filled in legibly should be sent to: Secretariat of the Harpsichord Competition The Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music 2, Okólnik str Warsaw, Poland Final date for receipt of applications at the Competition address is June 15 th The following documents must be sent with the application form: a. an audio tape or CD with the applicant s playing see the programme of PRELIMINARY STAGE, b. a copy of a birth certificate or other legal document stating applicant s age, c. a typewritten copy of the applicant s artistic biography, d. four recent portrait photographs in postcard format, e. registration fee of 120 EURO payable to the account of: The Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music 2, Okólnik str Warsaw, Poland BRE BANK S. A. O/ Warszawa Nr EURCURRO1 With the applicant s name and purpose indicated. Please note that no documents and tape or CD will be returned and the entry fee is not refundable.

6 3. Admission will be based on the evalution of submitted audio tape or CD. The successful candidates will be informed by the organizers by July 15 th The participants are responsible for all travel expences to and from Warsaw and for their accommodation during Competition. 5. All auditions and the Prize Winners Concert are open to the public and can be filmed, transmitted by radio and TV, registered, recorded on tapes and video tapes, photographed and distributed with the permission of the Competition Organizing Committee, without any payment to the contestant. 6. Registration. All competitors are required to arrive in Warsaw to register with the Competition Secretariat not later than on September 11 th 2004, at 4.00 p.m. 7. The order of performing, determined by drawing lots at 4.00 p.m. on September 11 th 2004 will remain valid throughout the Competition. 8. Competition Stages. The Competition will have three stages and will be preceded by the Preliminary Stage (audio casette or CD). The programme of the Preliminary Stage should be registered on audio tape or CD and sent to the Competition Secretariat together with the application form. 9. In principle no more than 12 contestants will be admitted to the Second Stage and no more than 6 contestants to the Third Stage.

Antonio SOLER Two Sonatas taken from Volume I ~ of the Union Musical Espanola edition. (Sonatas No 8, 16, 18, i 20 excluded) 11. Audio casette or CD with Preliminary Stage programme, recorded directly onto the tape or CD can be done in a studio, during a concert or at home with no post-production editing. 12. One or more compositions chosen by contestant (modern music excluded). The duration of the Third Stage must not exceed 45 minutes. 13. The contestants must play from the above mentioned editions and original editions. The programme may be played by memory or not. 14. Repeats and order of performance. In the all three Stages and in the Preliminary Stage all first repeats must be played. The order in which the pieces are to be played is open to the contestant s will except the Sonata for and harpsichord in the Stage III which must be played at the end of the programme. 15. The organizers will provide participation in the Stage III however the participant can arrive with own soloist being responsible for all travel expences and his accommodation in Warsaw.

10 16. PRIZES The participants will be awarded the following prizes: First prize zlotys Second prize 9000 zlotys Third prize 6000 zlotys and three distinctions of 3000 zlotys each. All participants of the Stage II and the Stage III will receive Diplomas of Participation. 17. The participants of the Stage III will be obliged to participate in the Gala Prize Winners Concert without any fee. 18. The Jury will consist of eminent and famous harpsichordists, representing a number of different countries. The Jury works on the basis of the Rules of the Jury. The Jury is entitled to change the number of contestants in the Stage II and the Stage III and has the right to withhold awarding the Prizes or decide to divide them. The decisions of the Jury are final and irrevocable. No legal action can taken against them. 19. In case of doubts only Polish text of the Rules will be considered binding.
