1 Rules of the design competition with Hack King s Design ARTICLE 1 Organisation of the competition The Public Establishment of the Palace, Museum and National Estate of Versailles, an administrative public establishment governed by decree no of 11 November 2010, and with registered offices at Etablissement public du château, du musée et du domaine national de Versailles - Pavillon Dufour - RP Versailles Cedex, hereinafter the Organiser, is, from Wednesday, 10 December 2014 (midnight, Paris time) to Sunday, 22 February 2015 (midnight, Paris time), organising a design competition entitled Hack King s Design, hereinafter the Competition, accessible from the hackkingsdesign.fr or hackkingsdesign.com (English version) websites (hereinafter The Website ). The aim of the Competition is to recreate a piece of furniture or object starting with the digital 3D file of the André-Charles Boulle chest of drawers presented in the 18th century, at the origins of design exhibition at the Palace of Versailles, open from 28 October 2014 to 22 February ARTICLE 2 Participation 2.1 Conditions for participation For all participants, participation in the Competition requires full and unreserved acceptance of the present rules. Non-compliance with said rules will lead to automatic disqualification of the entry and cancellation of any prizes. The Competition is open to all individuals, and whether a visitor or not to the Public Establishment of the Palace, Museum and National Estate of Versailles, who have an internet connection and have registered on the hackkingsdesign.fr or hackkingsdesign.com (English version) website between 10 December 2014 (midnight, Paris time) and 18 January 2015 (midnight, Paris time), and belong to one of the two following categories: Student Professional designer Any minors entering this Competition shall be deemed to participate under the supervision and with the consent of their parents or the holder(s) of parental authority, or failing this, their legal guardians(s). The legal representatives of the participant shall authorise him/her in writing to participate in the Contest and accept all provisions of these rules. The Organiser reserves the right to request proof of this authorisation at any time during the conduct of the Competition and may cancel the participation of any minor contestant whose participation has not been validated by their legal representative. Each participant may submit a single project. The same candidate may therefore not present one project in the student category and another in the professional designer category. 1

2 The Organiser reserves the right to undertake any checks required concerning the participant s identity, postal address and eligibility to participate in the Competition. Members of the Organiser s and Jury s staff and members of their families may not enter the Competition. Only one entry will be accepted per person (same surname, same first name, same valid address, same Facebook ID if applicable) and per household. Only one address per participant will be accepted. In case of multiple entries in the Competition, only the first entry will be considered. 2.2 Procedure for participation - registration In order to register, every participant must, between 10 December 2014 (midnight, Paris time) and 18 January 2015 (midnight, Paris time): 1/ go to the following website: hackkingsdesign.fr or hackkingsdesign.com (English version) 2/ fill in a form in which participants are asked to indicate which category they wish to enter: Students or Professional designers, 3/ provide details as follows: first name and last name, address, date of birth, Country, information concerning their studio, information concerning their digital id (non-obligatory field). 4/ tick the following box: in ticking this box, I declare I have read and accepted the complete rules of the competition. 5/ validate the registration by clicking VALIDATE. Entries will not be taken into consideration if details are incomplete, incomprehensible, or sent after the submission deadline or contravene the general provisions of these Rules. The Organiser reserves the right to conduct any verification regarding the identity of participants, and in particular to verify the truthfulness of the information supplied in the registration form. Any attempt at fraud will result in cancellation of the entry and, if necessary, the possible cancellation of the Competition. The act of registering under a false identity or with the identity of another person may result in rejection of the candidate. Once the entry is registered and approved by the Organiser, the participant will receive a validation for his or her registration in the Competition. This will contain essential information for participation in the Competition: - a 3D file of the Boulle chest of drawers; - photographs and a description of the Boulle chest of drawers; - the technical specifications to be respected. The Organiser will not be held responsible for non-receipt of this by the participant. The participant agrees to respect the confidentiality of the 3D file received and of the photographs of the Boulle chest of drawers, property of the Palace of Versailles: no use or transmission of the 3D files received may be made except for the purposes of the competition. 2.3 Procedure for participation submission of projects Following registration and receipt of the validation , the participant must send his file by (to the address indicated on the Website and in the form indicated in the specifications) 2

3 between 10 December 2014 (midnight, Paris time) and 18 January 2015 (midnight, Paris time) in accordance with the following procedure: 1/ Each participant must host the digital file created on a physibles publishing platform. This platform must be able to generate an embedded code (e.g.: 2/ Each participant must then send the file to the Organiser at this address: concours@hackkingsdesign.com o The embedded code for the project must be of size 640x480px. At least one 3D file of the project must be sent. Please note that only a single 3D file may be shown on the competition website. o An image of the design of size 280x240px (max. size: 100 kb). o The title of the design. o A text describing the design in French or English (maximum of 500 characters). o Technical notes detailing at least the process of interpretation of the initial 3D file and the materials used for the piece of furniture or object (free character count). The Organiser will not be liable for the hosting on the physibles platform chosen, or with regard to file-size limitation issues and prices imposed by some platforms. Each participant warrants that he or she owns all copyright to the work and/or has obtained an assignment of copyright from any other persons who have contributed directly or indirectly to the realisation of the 3D file. The participant must follow the procedure for sending the item as specified in the specifications. ARTICLE 3 Selection of winners The determination of the winning projects is carried out in two phases: - Phase 1: shortlisting by the jury of professionals - Phase 2: selection of the winning project by the public. 4.1 Shortlisting by the Jury of professionals A jury of expert professionals will meet once during the week from 19 January to 25 January 2015 to shortlist 5 finalists for each category (students/professional designers). This shortlisting will be carried out on the basis of an evaluation grid including the following criteria: Creativity and degree of innovation Contemporary character of the project, in particular with regard to manner of use Technical feasibility of the project using 3D printing capacity Potential for commercialisation 3

4 This assessment will lead to an overall score in points. The assessments will not be disclosed to the public and participants. The jury s decision is final. It has no obligation to justify its decisions, and is free not to consider designs. The decisions will not be subject to appeal. 4.2 Selection of the winning project in each category by the public Once the shortlist has been announced on the hackkingsdesign.fr or hackkingsdesign.com website (in its English version), at the latest by 26 January 2015 (midnight Paris time), the public (on the internet) will be able to vote on the Website for their favourite project in each category from 27 January 2015 (midnight, Paris time) to 22 February 2015 (midnight, Paris time). Each user may vote for one project from the Student category and one project from the Professional Designers category. The winning project in each category will be the one with the highest number of votes. In case of an equal number of votes being cast for two or more projects in the same category, the project having obtained the highest number of points in the shortlisting phase 1 will be designated as the winner. It should to be noted that any attempt at fraud and in particular via electronic means, will result in rejection of the candidate s participation. The winning projects will be designated after checking their eligibility. The two designated winners will be contacted via by the Organiser. If a winner should not come forward in the month following the sending of this , he or she will be considered to have renounced his or her prize, which will remain the property of the Organiser. A winner will in no case be able to seek to obtain the cash value of the prize won or exchange it against other goods or services. No message will be delivered to the losers of the Competition. ARTICLE 4. Prize Each winner in each category (student/professional designer) will win the following prize: a PR campaign developed by the Organiser: The Organiser undertakes to promote each winners via: - promoting for 1 month an article presenting each winner in the "news" pages of the Organiser s website: (worth 2000 net of tax); - promoting for 1 month an article presenting each winner on the home page of the hackkingsdesign.fr and hackkingsdesign.com website (in its English version) (worth 1000 net of tax); - the design, printing and distribution of a press release (worth 2000 net of tax); 4

5 - the sending of a dedicated newsletter to its contacts list (worth 1000 net of tax); - the writing and publishing of a full-colour half-page article per winner in Carnets de Versailles (worth 1000 net of tax). The dates and contents of these publications will be determined later by the Organiser and by each winner. In case of disagreement, the Organiser alone will determine the content or the date of publication of each item without this giving the right to any form of compensation on the part of the winner. A voucher copy will be sent to each winner after each publication. ARTICLE 5. Presentation of the Prize The award ceremony and official announcement of the names of the winners will take place from 23 February 2015 onwards, at a date and under the conditions to be decided later by the Organiser, but within a maximum period of 60 days following the end of the Competition. Following the official announcement of the winners, the Organiser will contact the two winners individually to agree the content of the promotional material to be prepared concerning the two winning projects. ARTICLE 6. Intellectual property rights Each participant guarantees himself to be the author of his project, which, to the extent of his knowledge, he declares to be original. Each participant retains ownership of the project. In addition to the rights pertaining to the initial 3D files of the Competition, each participant guarantees that he is the sole owner of the copyright pertaining to his work and forming the object of the Competition, and declares that he has, if necessary, acquired all rights from any natural or legal person who contributed in any way to the development of the project. Upon submitting his entry for the Competition, the participant authorises the Organiser to use his name in any public relations material relating to the Competition for a period of 2 years. All participants grant the Organiser non-exclusive and free rights of reproduction, presentation and adaptation of all or part of their project, for all types of media (electronic: internet and intranet sites of EPV, paper; paper: magazines, newspapers; multimedia...) in unlimited number of copies for the purposes of internal or external communication and for the whole world and a period of 2 years. Winners may promote their project mentioning the prize. Participants relieve the Organiser of all claims from any third party with regard to their projects. Participants who have been shortlisted acknowledge that Organiser will receive first claim for any future commercial exploitation of their project. 5

6 ARTICLE 7 Connection fees to the Website will be refunded upon written request to the Château de Versailles, direction de l information et de la communication, 1 rue de l Indépendance américaine Versailles cedex, on the basis of a telephone connection of 10 (ten) minutes at the current rate of 0.02 (two cents including taxes) per minute for a national call, or a lump sum of 0.20 (twenty cents including taxes). Reimbursement of connection costs is subject to one connection per person per household (same name, same postal address and address) for the duration of the Competition. Given that with the current offers of service and technology, some internet providers offer a free or flat rate connection to internet users, it is expressly agreed that any access to the Website on a free or flat rate basis will not give rise to the right to any reimbursement, on the assumption that, for the participant, connecting to the site and participating in the Competition causes him no extra costs or disbursements. - The cost of the postage stamp for the reimbursement request will be reimbursed at the current second-class rate. Only participants whose participation in the competition has actually resulted in an additional expense for them will be reimbursed. In order to obtain reimbursement of connection costs, the participant must send a written request on plain paper, containing the following details to the Competition address: - first and last names and home address; - date and time of connection to the website; - a copy of the itemised bill from the telephone operator and/or internet service to which he subscribes; - a bank account number. The reimbursement will be made by cheque within approximately four (4) weeks of the end of the Competition. Inaccurate or incomplete applications will not be considered. ARTICLE 8. Responsibilities The Organiser reminds participants of the features and limitations of the internet and accepts no responsibility for the consequences of the participants connection to the network via the Competition website. In particular, the Organiser shall not be held liable for any damage, material or immaterial caused to participants, to their computer equipment and the data stored therein, and possible implications thereby deriving to their personal, professional or commercial activities. Furthermore, the Organiser shall not be held liable if one or more participants are unable to connect to the Website or participate therein as a result of any technical fault or any problem including network congestion. To participate in this contest, a screen resolution of a minimum of 1024x768 pixels, an internet connection with a speed of 512kb/s, an internet browser with Explorer 10 or higher, Firefox 5.0 or higher, Safari 6.0 or higher, or Chrome 38 or higher are recommended. 6

7 It is strictly forbidden, by any means whatsoever, to modify or attempt to modify the features of the Competition, in particular with the aim of modifying the results or any element determining the outcome of a contest and the winners of a contest. The Organiser reserves the right to enforce equal opportunity for all participants, in particular by legal means or any other means at its convenience. In any event, the number of prizes awarded may not exceed that provided for in these Rules. The Organiser cannot be held responsible in the case of misdirected mail. ARTICLE 9. Modifications, cancellations The Organiser reserves the right to extend, shorten, modify or cancel the Competition at any time, and in particular in cases of force majeure, such as those recognised by French case law without this leading to any claims for compensation by the participants, in particular with regard to presumption of fraud on the part of one of the participants. Any modification to the Competition and these rules will be subject to an amendment that will be deposited via Gilles BORNECQUE-WINANDY, bailiffs, 15 Passage du Marquis de la Londe VERSAILLES. ARTICLE 10. Rules and disputes Participation in the Competition constitutes acceptance without reservation of the present rules. Any dispute of whatever nature concerning these rules will be subject to the final decision in last resort of the Organiser in accordance with the spirit of the present rules. Participants declare on their honour as to the authenticity and truthfulness of the information they provide that is subject to the application of these rules. The Organiser reserves the right to remove any candidacy including misleading or inaccurate information. These rules are subject to French law. They have been filed with Gilles BORNECQUE-WINANDY, bailiffs, 15 Passage du Marquis de la Londe VERSAILLES, which is assigned the task of supervising their implementation. The Competition rules are available on the Website. The Competition rules will be sent free of charge to any person requesting them from the following address: Château de Versailles, direction de l information et de la communication, 1 rue de l Indépendance américaine Versailles cedex. The postage stamp used for this request will be reimbursed at the current second-class rate for twenty grams (20g); bank details must be enclosed. Each request must include the full contact details (name, full address and postal code). Only one claim for reimbursement and one payment will be accepted per person and per household (same name, same address) during the duration of the Competition. The Organiser reserves the right to decide without appeal with regard to any difficulty arising as to the interpretation or application of these rules, it being understood that no claim will be entertained, and in particular concerning the procedures of the Competition, the results, the 7

8 prizes or their award, after approximately eight (8) weeks from the conclusion of the Competition. No requests for information (written, telephone, oral request) concerning the interpretation or application of these rules will be answered. ARTICLE 11. Data protection and freedom of information The winners authorise the Organiser to release their full names and town of residence for public relations purposes in connection with this Competition without the winners thereby being granted the right to remuneration or any other benefit other than the prizes. Every participant declares his awareness that the personal information collected is necessary for participation in this Competition. In accordance with modified Law No of 6 January 1978 concerning data protection, records and freedom of information, participants have the right to gain access to, rectify, cancel and oppose data concerning them from the Organiser. These rights may be exercised by post by writing to Château de Versailles, direction de l information et de la communication, 1 rue de l Indépendance américaine Versailles cedex. The information supplied is for the internal use of the Organiser and may not be ceded to third parties. ARTICLE 12 The present rules are subject to French law. Any dispute arising in connection with this Competition which cannot be settled amicably will be submitted to the competent courts of Versailles. 8
