8 Birth of PMO in COMAU 2007: PMO year zero Comau business complexity increased frantically in the last 15 years, and a dramatic change was required. At mid 2007, following the need of a better projects governance, a Corporate Contract & Project Management Organization was established in Comau to: Manage multi-national projects with the right empowering and visibility Harmonize Project Management rules and tools worldwide Manage Projects Portfolio Allow experiences flow between different Countries and Businesses Comau started the travel from a centric-multiclustered model to a collaborative-networked model 8

9 Birth of PMO in COMAU Early Project Management Strategy Four main areas of action were identified: Organization Processes Skills & Behaviors Communication The Project Management Institute (PMI ) was chosen as a reference for Project Management practice and the PMBOK as a guideline for Project Management Processes. 9

20 Skills and behaviors Hard skills training Among the hard-skill courses provided by the Comau PM Academy: PME Project Management Essentials (2 days) PMF - Project Management Fundamentals (3 days) PMP preparation Course (6 days) Train the Trainer (2 days) Training material is developed internally, based on PMI standards, but carefully tailored to Comau specific business. The training courses are held by Comau PMP certified trainers with onthe-job experience. The courses are targeted to all Comau professionals involved in project team work. 20
