1 8000/9000 Multiservice WAN Switches 1-Port Channelized DS3/1/0 I/O Module 1-Port Channelized DS3/1 I/O Module 2-Port HSSI I/O Module 2-Port Ethernet 10/100 Base-T I/O Module The B-STDX 8000/9000 TM high-speed frame relay/ip I/O modules provide IP and frame relay access in configurable bandwidth blocks ranging from DS1 (1.5 Mbps) to DS3 (45 Mbps). The modules also provide high-speed trunk connections to co-located equipment. Service providers use the modules to offer multiservice access that matches user needs and protects existing platform investments. High-Density Access and Trunking Lucent B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches provide a set of frame relay/ip modules that offer a wide range of high-density access and high-speed trunking interfaces, including DS3 (channelized to the DS1 or DS0 level), 45 Mbps high-speed serial interface (HSSI), and 10/100 Ethernet. The high-speed frame relay/ip input/output (I/O) modules include: 1-Port Channelized DS3/1/0 module and the 1-Port Channelized DS3/1 moduleused to provide high-density frame relay access 2-Port HSSI moduleused to provide high-speed trunk connections to co-located backbone switches or other high-speed access devices requiring access to a multiservice network 2-Port Ethernet 10/100 Base-T moduleused to support Web hosting and Internet access services by providing IP-based Ethernet devices with very high speed, two-way access to the frame relay network. The high-speed frame relay/ip modules provide frame relay and IP access in highly configurable blocks of bandwidth, ranging from DS1 (1.5 Mbps) to DS3 (45 Mbps). These flexible modules also extend service options by providing IP/Ethernet connectivity to Web servers, remote access concentrators, and routers. The high-speed frame relay/ip, Ethernet, and HSSI modules work in conjunction with the low-speed frame relay/ip, low-speed ATM, and high-speed ATM modules to equip the B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches to offer multiservice access that matches user needs and protects existing platform investments. Through its full-featured frame relay support and wide range of value-add features, the B-STDX multiservice WAN switches continue to set the standard for frame relay networking. Multiservice Capability Delivers New Service Options The high-speed frame relay/ip modules deliver the power to create a broad range of frame relay and IP services through the flexible architecture and broad standards implementation of the B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches. The B-STDX switches allow each port to be software-defined to deliver a variety of standardsbased service types including user network interface (UNI) data terminal equipment (DTE) or data communications equipment (DCE), network-to-network interface (NNI), and leased-line or Lucent OPTimum interswitch trunks. Service providers combine the highspeed frame relay and IP modules with IP Navigator MPLS software to deliver a scalable portfolio of high-performance IP services.

2 Through multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) the modules also support: relay switched virtual circuits (SVCs) Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol (MLPPP) Multilink frame relay (MLFR) relay Quality of Service (QoS) through Priority ATM integration, including ATM data exchange interface/frame user network interface (DXI/FUNI). This broad-reaching standards support allows service providers to offer a wide range of value-added frame relay and IP service options including virtual private networks (VPNs), perfect-fit bandwidth, and high-priority voice, video, and data services. Reliable QoS Performance Lucent B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches provide exceptional QoS support for frame relay and IP services through Priority, IP Navigator MPLS, and Priority Reroute. These capabilities work together to provide different levels of service for emerging applications. Virtual Network Navigator (VNN), the Lucent multiservice routing architecture, provides superior service delivery and seamless data transmission across complex networks by establishing the optimum path to support service level guarantees. When necessary, built-in redundancy automatically reroutes all circuits to an alternate path. The network path supports virtual circuit (VC) service class requirements based on available bandwidth, network delay, buffer availability and administrative costs. Service providers use the outstanding QoS capabilities of VNN to offer services with differing characteristics based on the application or their customer s requirements. Carrier-Class Switches Ensure High Availability, Reliability, and Scalability The Lucent family of products offer superior high-network availability, maximum reliability and scalability for mission-critical, carrier-class environments. B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches offer the high-availability features service providers require in a carrier-class switch, including faulttolerant permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) and switched virtual circuits (SVCs), fast circuit setup, and quick rerouting. The DS3/1 and DS3/1/0 modules are available in redundant configurations. Hot swap and live insertion capabilities further reduce network downtime, while the flash memory allows easy field installations of new capabilities. The superior switch design supports growing networks with leading edge hardware and shared software components. The powerful hardware architecture delivers exceptional scalability for high bandwidth transmission environments or high port density configurations. Distributed switching and routing tables combine to furnish fast routing decisions. Powerful Management Provides Advanced Network Control The NavisCore /NavisXtend network and service management software allows service providers to deliver new networking services to enterprise customers more quickly and profitably. Sophisticated applications deliver add-on functions such as Service Channelized DS3/1/0 and DS3/1 Figure 1The Channelized DS3/1/0 and DS3/1 modules deliver industry-leading density for DS0 and DS1 frame relay and IP services.

3 Level Agreements (SLAs) and real-time statistics monitoring. Exceptional management of Lucent networking nodes, using industry-standard protocols, builds seamless network management across the Lucent multiservice switching products for all ATM, frame relay, IP, private line, DSL, and ISDN network services. NavisCore and NavisXtend software offer extensive configuration, performance management and security support servicesproviding an integrated solution for complete network control across the WAN. The Navis service management suite provides a command line interface (CLI) for monitoring and configuring appropriate parameters and collecting performance statistics for Ethernet and asynchronous serial console connections. In addition, Web-based interfaces allow cost-effective customer network management. Navis, through its ability to manage large multiservice networks from a single platform, enables service providers to fulfill SLAs, reduce operating costs, and deliver new services quickly and profitably. 1-Port Channelized DS3/1/0 and 1-Port Channelized DS3/1 I/O for High-Density Access The 1-Port Channelized DS3/1/0 and 1-Port Channelized DS3/1 I/O modules offer one of the industry s more cost-effective and scalable solutions for concentrating multiple low-speed access lines over a single DS3 physical interface. Service providers use the Channelized DS3/1/0 and DS3/1 I/O modules to provide scalable, high-density access to their frame relay and IP subscribers. Scalable Low-Speed Access Services. The 1-Port Channelized DS3/1 and DS3/1/0 modules equip B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches to support any combination of DS0, DS1, or fractional DS1 access lines. Both modules support 28 DS1 or fractional DS1 connections per module. The DS3/1/0 module can also support up to 672 DS0 connections per module. With its 16-slot modular architecture, the Lucent B-STDX 9000 provides industry-leading density for DS0 and DS1 services supporting up to 392 DS1 or 9,408 DS0 connections per switch. Distributed processing on the switch scales performance with port density, delivering a solution that will grow with end-user demand. Service providers can combine contiguous DS0 and/ or contiguous fractional DS1 connections to form higher bandwidth connections. Service providers use this capability to offer end users perfect-fit access in any multiple of n times 64 Kbps or 56 Kbps (Nx64 Kbps or Nx56 Kbps). 4 Advanced Architecture Lowers Costs and Simplifies Management. The Channelized DS3/1/0 and DS3/1 modules enable remote provisioning of the Central Office digital access crossconnect system (DACS) and multiplexer equipment, decreasing provisioning time, reducing cabling complexity, and simplifying network operations. By enabling software provisioning of circuits rather than physical provisioning of lines, the Channelized DS3/1/0 module reduces operational costs and allows service providers to respond quickly to end-user demand. Integral channel service units/ data service units (CSU/DSUs) on the modules further reduce equipment and maintenance costs. Each I/O module also delivers flexible, userconfigurable performance monitoring, loopback, and diagnostic capabilities to support end-to-end circuit verification. 2-Port HSSI I/O Module for Relay Access and Trunking Service providers use the 2-Port HSSI I/O module to offer enterprises high-speed (45 Mbps) connections to public and private networks. Each port can be individually configured as a DTE, DCE, NNI, or trunk to provide any frame relay logical port function at speeds ranging from 1.5 Mbps to 45 Mbps. This flexibility makes this optional module a costeffective solution for: relay access at LAN speeds Trunking between B-STDX switches High-speed feeder links to frame relay networks Connecting at LAN Speeds. The HSSI module equips the B-STDX switches to provide high-speed (45 Mbps) frame relay access. This service is commonly used to replace traditional leased lines, provide backbone LAN-speed connections for enterprise data traffic, an connect Internet service providers (ISPs) to the Internet. The 2-Port HSSI frame relay I/O module provides two 45 Mbps frame relay ports for large enterprise backbone deployments and ISP connections. Each 45 Mbps link to the customer site supports a range of services simultaneously, including highspeed PVCs for backbone data, low-speed PVC fan-out to remote sites, and SVC service for intermittent voice and video conferencing services. Priority QoS guarantees industryleading fault-tolerant features such as Priority Reroute and resilient local management interface (LMI) support for each service. Non-frame relay high-level data link control (HDLC) and synchronous data link control (SDLC) connections are supported via direct frame relay access device (FRAD) and translated FRAD (RFC 1490). Trunking. The HSSI module also provides high-speed trunking between B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches. Connections at rates of 45 Mbps transfer data in native frame relay format. Feeder Links to Networks. High-speed HSSI connections to public and large private frame relay networks serve as feeder links for DS0/DS1 frame relay traffic aggregated by the B-STDX 8000/9000 multiservice WAN switches. Service providers can cost-effectively fan-in subscriber connections on the high-density Channelized DS3/1/0 and DS3/1 modules, then feed those connections to a larger frame relay network at T-3 speeds over HSSI connections. High-Density, High-Performance Module Minimizes Network Congestion. Each HSSI module furnishes 5,000 virtual connections. The high-density, high-performance module minimizes and manages network congestion with outstanding throughput. The Lucent multiservice 2-Port Ethernet I/O Module Figure 3The 2-Port Ethernet I/O module supports dial aggregation and Internet/intranet services. With it, service providers can easily offer generic Internet services as well as value-added point-to-point IP services.

5 routing architecturevnnprovides superior service delivery and seamless data transmission across complex networks by establishing the optimum path and rerouting, as necessary, to meet a customer s level of service guarantees. 2-Port Ethernet 10/100 Base-T I/O Module for Internet Connections The 2-Port Ethernet 10/100 Base-T I/O module provides IP-based Ethernet devices with very high speed (10 Mbps and 100 Mbps), two-way access to the frame relay network. The module operates as a standard IP routing interface to provide users with a high-speed interface for local Internet/intranet servers, dial access concentrators, and existing routers. Used in conjunction with IP Navigator MPLS, this I/O module significantly broadens the scope of frame relay service and connectivity options. Flexible Design Supplies Internet and Value- Added Services. The Ethernet 10/100 Base-T I/O module enables service providers to easily offer Internet hosting services as well as the value-added IP routing services inherent to IP Navigator MPLS. IP traffic received from the Ethernet module is forwarded over a multipointto-point label switched path (MPT LSP) built by IP Navigator MPLS or over a regular PVC. Similarly, traffic received from the network is forwarded from the MPT LSP or PVC to the appropriate Ethernet segment and address. Enhanced Architecture Improves Network Performance and Protects Investment. The Ethernet 10/100 Base-T I/O module reduces bottlenecks to dial access equipment, improving network performance with high-speed 100 Mbps connections. This enhanced performance enables new service opportunities with direct access to LAN-attached Web, mail, security, and transaction processing servers, while protecting the investment in the existing LAN server equipment. Meanwhile, the fast 10/100 Mbps response time helps service providers attract and retain Web hosting and Internet access clients. Standard IP Support Expands Connectivity Options. The Ethernet module supports a wide range of standard Internet protocols, including: Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) Border Gateway Protocol-4 (BGP-4) Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol (DVMRP) Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Internet Group Multicast Protocol (IGMP) Inverse Address Resolution Protocol (IARP) Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Multicast OSPF (MOSPF) Protocol-independent multicast (PIM) Routing Information Protocol (RIP), Routing Information Protocol-2 (RIP 2) Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP) Telnet, Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
