1 CHAPTER -Port Channelized E/T Line Card Overview This chapter describes the Cisco series -port channelized E/T line card (referred to as the -port channelized E/T line card), and contains the following sections: Line Card Summary, page - Software and Hardware Compatibility, page - Line Card, Router, and Processor Compatibility, page - LEDs, page - Physical Specifications, page - Slot Locations, page -6 Cables, Connectors, and Pinouts, page -7 Line Card Summary Table - -Port Channelized E/T Line Card Summary Product Number Description Minimum Cisco IOS Release ESR-CT/E= -port channelized T/E line card Initial Cisco IOS release for PRE-:.()S and later releases of Cisco IOS Release.S Initial Cisco IOS release for PRE-:.()BX and later releases of.bx.(8)sb and later releases of Cisco IOS Release.(8)SB.(7)XI and later releases of Cisco IOS.XI For registered Cisco.com users, use Software Advisor to determine the software releases for this line card. The -port channelized E/T line card provides Cisco routers with copper channelized or unchannelized interface ports that you can configure as E or T interfaces. When you configure a line card for: E operation You can configure each E port as one or more interfaces for framed (channelized) operation, or as a single channel for unframed (unchannelized) operation. T operation You can configure each T port as one or more interfaces for framed operation. Cisco Series Routers Line Card Hardware Installation Guide -

3 Chapter -Port Channelized E/T Line Card Overview Software and Hardware Compatibility Super Frame (SF) or Extended Super Frame (ESF) framing modes Protocol encapsulations: HDLC Frame Relay PPP Channel bandwidths of N x 6 kbps or N x 6 kbps in channelized T mode, where N has a value from to Solutions for service providers where fiber interfaces are unavailable Internet service provider interface connections to existing copper Internet Protocol (IP) T channels T-level bit error rate test (BERT) functions If you are a registered Cisco.com user, see Feature Navigator for supported features. Software and Hardware Compatibility To check the minimum software requirements of Cisco IOS software with the hardware installed on your router, Cisco maintains the Software Advisor tool on Cisco.com. This tool does not verify whether line cards within a system are compatible, but does provide the minimum Cisco IOS requirements for individual hardware line cards, modules, or options. Note Access to this tool is limited to users with Cisco.com login accounts. To access Software Advisor, click Login at Cisco.com, type Software Advisor in the search box, and click Go. Click the link for the Software Advisor tool. Choose a product family or enter a specific product number to search for the minimum supported software release needed for your hardware. 5 Chapter -Port Channelized E/T Line Card Overview Physical Specifications Table - provides a description of the -port channelized E/T line card LEDs. Table - LED Description LED Label Color State Meaning Yellow Off Off during normal operation. This LED lights momentarily during power-on self test (POST) and then goes out on a properly working line card. On On if a line card fails during operation, and an alarm event occurs. (Status LEDs) Green On Carrier Detect LED on indicates that a carrier signal exits at the corresponding port, which is normal interface operation. During loopback testing, this LED also lights green. Off When the LED is off, the port is administratively down. Yellow Off When this Alarm Active LED is not lit, the port is administratively down. On Alarm Active LED is on when the corresponding port data path is in an alarm condition. The following alarms are monitored: LoS (Loss of Signal), LoF (Loss of Frame), RAI (Remote Alarm Indication), and AIS (Alarm Indication Signal). Cables, Connectors, and Pinouts You can use up to Category or Category unshielded twisted pair (UTP) transmit and receive cables with RJ- connectors at each end. These cables connect to two staggered -line faceplate RJ- jacks with -ohm balanced-line inputs, which allow the line card to operate in either T ( ohm balanced) or E ( ohm balanced) mode. The faceplate RJ- jacks are numbered to and to left-to-right and top-to-bottom. You can also use a Cisco cable adapter (CAB-ADAPT-7-=) for coaxial British Navel Connector (BNC) unbalanced transmit and receive E connections (see the Using the BNC Cable Adapter section on page -8). Caution If the Cisco series router is used in an environment in which lightning-induced transients are likely to couple to the signal lines, use of shielded interconnection cables for the E/T ports is highly recommended. In addition, use of shielded interconnection cables for the E/T ports is required to meet Telcordia (formerly Bellcore) GR89 CORE Section..9 and ETSI Section... (intrabuilding lightning surge).
