2 Tic Tac Toe Review or Partner Activity Grade Level: Algebra 1 & Algebra content or review Precalc Review Standards: HSA Seeing Structure in Epressions: Write epressions in equivalent forms to solve problems HSA.SSE.B.3b: Factor a quadratic epression to reveal the zeros of the function HSA Reasoning with Equations & Inequalities: Solve equations and inequalities in one variable HSA.REI.B.4b: Solve quadratic equations by inspection, taking square roots, completing the square, the quadratic formula, and factoring, as appropriate to the initial form of the equation. HSF Interpreting Functions: Analyze functions using different representations HSF.IF.C.8a: Use the process of factoring and completing the square in a quadratic function to show zeros Practical Matters: Completing the square has many levels including when a=1, a 1,, fractions required, fractions not required, radicals in the answer and answers without radicals and a combination of all of the above. Each set of fluency quizzes is designed to assess these various components which will help you figure out what part of the process a student struggles with. Ideas for Using Partner Activity: One partner is X and the other is O. The X partner picks a space and solves the equation. The Partner checks equation.. If the answer is correct, the X gets the square, if it doesnt, the O gets the square. Then the O picks a square and repeats the process. The X checks the work. If the work is correct, the O gets the square. If it is incorrect, the X gets the square. Tic Tac Toe wins. Individual Student Review: The student is X. Each student gets the board and chooses the problem to solve They check the answer with the teacher. If they are correct, X gets the square. If they are incorrect, the teacher puts in O in the square. You can have students solve 3 and then check or check after each problem. Tic Tac Toe wins. If the teacher wins, then the student solves the remaining problems as practice and reteaching. Student choice board: Skills are best learned over time. Without solid skills, some students cannot progress to understanding why a certain concept is important or how the concept fits with the rest of the content they are learning.
