I have considerable experience in the assessment of children with a broad range of needs, within complex and sensitive family situations. My assessment expertise includes all of the areas cited above regarding the functioning of children and families. My roles within Children s Services have included being an Educational Psychologist, a Senior Manager within Local Authorities, a Senior Adviser for Central Government and a Consultant to Directors of Children s Services. I have a rich depth and breadth of experiences of working with children and systems across the country, which now informs my work. As an Educational Psychologist, I have worked within city and county Local Authorities and have led and managed a team of Psychologists, delivering psychological services to children, families and educational settings. I have an excellent national reputation within the profession and high credibility. In the 1990s, I pioneered an innovative systems intervention to support the inclusion of the most challenging and vulnerable children in schools and this is now embedded throughout the UK. I am an experienced senior manager within Local Authorities and have managed an Educational Psychology Service, a Behaviour Support Service, an Education Welfare Service and an Education Service for Looked After Children. The work of all of these services focuses on the assessment and delivery of required provision for the most vulnerable children and their families. I have been lead education officer for Looked after Children within a large metropolitan Local Authority and have regularly reported to Chief Officers within education and
2 social services. As a senior manager and Strategic lead for Social Inclusion, I have regularly reported to elected members within local government. My career has included working for several years as a Senior Adviser with the Government s Department for Children, Schools and Families, to plan and implement initiatives to improve Behaviour and Attendance in schools and early years settings across England. This role included developing a new national curriculum across primary and secondary schools, to develop the social, emotional and behavioural aspects of learning. My responsibilities included leading national conferences for senior Local Authority managers, to improve behaviour and attendance across the country. My work has included being an Organisational Consultant with Directors of Children s Services to improve the delivery of services for children. Areas of focus have included enhancing support for the most challenging children and young people, developing integrated service delivery by education and social services and special educational needs provision.
