1 Applied Science University Faculty of Economics & Administration Science Business Administration Syllabus 1. Research Methodology ( ) Prerequisite: None This course is primarily for students who have never before studied social scientific research. It aims to provide students with the basic principles of scientific methodology, and to help them to be familiar with research methods. 2. Fundamentals of Management (1) ( ) Prerequisite: None Discusses the nature, basic concepts,principles, characteristics, and applications of management. Presents an overview of the main schools and theories of management. Provides detailed discussion of the main four functions of management: Planning, Organizing, Directing and Controlling. 3. Fundamentals of Management (2) ( ) Explains the nature of a business organization, and the organizational - environment interfaces/relationships, as well as the legal forms of various business organizations. Discusses the functions of business Organization: Production, Marketing, Finance, Purchasing, Personnel, Storekeeping/Inventory, Public Relations, Research and Development, Management Information system. 4. Public Relations ( ) Explains the nature, significance and applications of Public Relations. It presents a detailed discussion of the processes of planning and organizing for Public Relations function, as well as communication media. Special Emphasis is placed on Public opinion and how to promote and build good relationship between the organization and its Public. 5. Materials Management ( ) Explains the nature and significance of both Purchasing and Storekeeping for various business organizations and enterprises. Emphasis is placed on integrating purchasing planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and storage operations, as one integrated function called Materials Management 6. Management Studies (in English) ( ) Prerequisite: Discusses briefly, in simple and clear English, nature, theories, concepts and principles of management. Provides brief Presentation of the four management functions: Planning, Organizing, Directing and controlling, with special emphasis on English Key words and Terms in management.
2 7. Human Resources Management ( ) Explains the nature and importance of Human Resources Management to Organizational success and effectiveness. Provides thorough discussion of the various processes of (HRM), including: Manpower Planning, Recruitment and Selection, Performance Appraisal, Development and Training, Salaries and Benefits.. and Termination. 8. Strategic Management ( ) This course seeks to provide students with an Introduction to the concepts and basic skills which qualify them to understand the operation of strategic management in formulating, Implementation and evaluation stages. 9. Business Communications (in English) ( ) Prerequisite: It presents an overview of the nature, significance, elements/ steps, forms, and barriers of communication in organizations. It discusses the effective messages and how to develop and write effectively various kinds of business letters, such as letters of inquiry, reply, order, sales, etc., using the modern communication technological tools. Main types of oral comm. are discussed, too. 10. Production and Operations Management ( ) Prerequisite: This course seeks to provide students in business administration and other relevant disciplines with an introduction to the concepts, methodologies and practical applications of (P/OM). Emphasis is made on the fundamentals of P/OM, and the major operation management problems and decision areas like: - Demand Forecasting. - Feasibility Studies. - Aggregate Capacity Planning - Facility Location, and layout - Types of Manufacturing operations (production methods) 11. Field Training ( ) Prerequisite: 90 credit hours It allows the students to practice the principles, concepts and functions of management in real life, in a particular organization, with special emphasis on managerial activities and aspects of organizational operations. 12. Organization Theory ( ) Describes nature, elements, importance and dimensions of organizational structure. It presents a thorough discussion of main models of Org. Design, and steps (elements) of organizational structure: Job Design, Departmentation, Authority- Relationships, and Coordination. Determinants of Organizational Design such as
3 environment, size, strategy, technology etc. and significant issues such as: Organizational Conflict, Organizational change are discussed, too.
4 13. Organizational Behavior ( ) It Presents an overview of the nature, significance, and historical development of human behavior in organizations. Determinants of human behavior, whether individual (such as perception, Attitudes, Motivation etc.) or organizational (such as Org. design, leadership, comm., group etc.) are thoroughly discussed and Stress, organizational conflict, Innovation and organizational change, too. 14. Bank Management ( ) It provides an overview of nature and fundamentals of commercial banks management. Planning, Organizing, directing and controlling banking operations, as well as methods of financing and investing, are fully discussed. 15. Total Quality Management ( ) This course offers a broad view of TQM, covering the approaches of quality leaders such as Deming, Juran, and Crosby. Topics include employee empowerment, training and development, team building, leadership, strategic planning, performance measures, and statistical tools for TQM. Emphasis is placed on customer satisfaction, error prevention, and continuous improvement. 16. Applied Research ( ) Prerequisite: 99 credit hours Each student is required to conduct field research in business administration areas, and applying sound scientific research methodology. 17. Small Business Management ( ) The course includes the following: definition of small-business enterprise, its nature and importance, its characteristics, the different approaches to study it, the services offered to support it, the government policy towards it. Setting a plan of action and its routines, business incubators, advantages and disadvantages, family small-business enterprise and strategic planning of small-business enterprises. 18. Operations Research(1) E ( ) Prerequisite: This course discusses concepts and principles of quantitative methods for decision making. Defines the evaluation and application of OR and promotes understanding how to use quantitative models. Provides presentation of decision making tools like Linear Programming, Transportation and assignment models, Network models.

Operations Research(2) E ( ) Prerequisite: This course discusses advanced concepts and principles of quantitative methods in decision making, to using on the application of mathethical models in managerial decision making. It provides presentation of decision theory models, decision trees, Bayesion theory, games theory, network analysis (PERT/CPM), Markov analysis, and waiting lines models. 20. Contemporary Managerial Topics ( ) Prerequisite: This course aims to broaden student's knowledge and understanding of the current and emerging challenges that modern managers and organizations face. The student shall be introduced to current and emerging issues and trends in management not yet well-established, including but not limited to: Globalization, knowledge society and Economy, Intellectual capital, knowledge management, learning organization and organizational learning, Strategic thinking, corporate social responsibility, managerial ethics, Crisis management, Entrepreneurship, and other emerging trends/ issues in management. 21. Organizational Change and Development (OC&D) (402421) This course seeks to increase students' awareness of the necessity and importance of planned OC, in the light of unrecorded transformations and environmental changes in all spheres. The course, also, aims to upgrade skills to manage successfully OC and select proper change strategies that greatly contribute to outstanding performance and excellence at the individual, group and organizational levels. Also, students will be fully aware that resistance to change is natural, and might have positive outcomes, and how is managed successfully. 22. Public Administration (402208) Prerequisite: None The course seeks to introduce the reader/student to managerial theories, principles and concepts in general and particularly those related to public administration, making the distinction between business and public administration. It aims, also to increase the reader's/ student's awareness and understanding of the importance, and applications of public administration and its significant role in national progress and development, focusing on administrative development/ development administration/ administrative reforms 23. International Management (402406) International management is process of applying management concepts and techniques in multinational environment. The students will focus on the need for global thinking in a world where markets and economics are interrelated. International management deals with cultures, ethics and political risk. Students must know how global mangers plan, decide, organize and control there multinational companies and how to mange people across cultures and so on.

Computer Applications in Management ( ) Prerequisite: This course designed mainly to provide the students with the importance of use computer in business administration, training the students how to use the computer programs in business such as, human resource, system inventory and sales, purchases and orders, production costs, customer systems, monetary system and checks, through the application of the Alpha
