Oct 03 Oct 05: Insight Investment (HBOS) BCP Manager Sole responsibility for the design and implementation of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery/Crisis Management framework. Drive BCP issues and manage/train local BCP resources across the business. Influence executive management and Group Risk function to ensure that best practice is achieved. Two direct reports at analyst level. Project budget of 2m. Designed and implemented enhanced BCP documentation and procedures. Managed two complete cycles of DR testing, Business Impact Analysis and desktop scenario training sessions for department heads and Crisis Management Team. Championed and managed the implementation of support software for maintaining plans and utilising web-based automated call cascade. Test results improved from 36% success rate to 91%. Aug 1999 Oct 03: Financial Services Authority (FSA) Sep 02 Oct 03: Associate, Prudential Standards Division Senior level policy setting and sourcebook creation in the specialist area of business continuity, outsourcing and operational risk insurance. Manage consultation process and advise colleagues and authorised firms of the correct application of policy. Represent the UK/FSA at international fora on related policy matters, and review and authorize proposed offshoring arrangements. Authored final wording of BCP, outsourcing & insurance sections of SYSC 3A and drove through the various approving committees and public consultation process. Presented the policy at industry seminars, and designed FSA staff training programme for supervisors on policy application. Chaired FSA s Operational Risk Departmental Expert Network, established to provide local OR expertise throughout the FSA.

4 Represented the UK/FSA at CAD3 negotiations under the auspices of the EU Commission-appointed Working Group on Other Risks, comprising senior representatives from the regulatory bodies of all member states. Represented the FSA at industry level with regard to business continuity matters, and held a seat on the London Resilience Team s Business Sub Committee, which reports directly to the Nick Raynsford MP, Minister with responsibility for UK Civil Resilience. Dec 00 Sep 02: Associate, Markets & Exchanges Division Regulatory oversight of London Clearing House (LCH). Detailed review of LCH credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk and operational risk. OR/BCP review led to far reaching overhaul of BCP measures in place in line with my proposals. Review & approval of proposed new business lines for LCH, including the introduction of settlement netting. Relationship management with senior LCH figures, essential due to limited powers of sanction held by the FSA in respect of such Recognised Bodies. Project management of application for UK recognised status by DTCC, managed to completion within agreed timescale. Required extensive liaison with senior industry contacts in New York (DTCC) and Washington (SEC). Aug 99 - Dec 00: Associate, Authorisation Division Regulatory approval of applications from UK firms to establish European branches or cross-border passports under the Investment Services Directive, and implementation of approved applications. Introduced revised streamlined process for approval and notification of applications, increasing productivity for this function by 40%. Identified major flaw in the post-approval maintenance of standing data by supervising departments, which in some cases had led to authorised firms facing undue sanctions in some member states. Introduced measures to eradicate flaw and managed the process of negotiation with member states holding incorrect data. Achieved highest score in FSA-wide anti-money laundering examination, leading to coverage and interview in FSA newsletter. Undertook registered representative exams for securities & derivatives. Complementary work During my time at the FSA, I was approached to additionally work for the Securities Institute on a consultancy basis, composing and editing examination questions for industry qualifications in the area of Clearing & Settlement and money laundering.
