2 Computer Programming Technology Program Description The Computer Programming Curriculum prepares individuals for employment as computer programmers and related positions through study and applications in computer concepts, logic, programming procedures, languages, generators, operating systems, networking, data management, and business operations. Students will solve business computer problems through programming techniques and procedures, using appropriate languages and software. The primary emphasis of the curriculum is hands-on training in programming and related computer areas that provide the ability to adapt as systems evolve. Graduates should qualify for employment in business, industry, and government organizations as programmers, programmer trainees, programmer/analysts, computer operators, systems technicians, or database specialists. Because the use of computers is integral to this curriculum, some courses are delivered in an online format. Unique Aspects of the Computer Programming Program Employers are placing an emphasis on newer, objectoriented languages and tools such as C++ and C#. Additionally, employers seek people familiar with fourth-and fifth-generation languages that involve graphic user interface and database programming such as Visual Basic and SQL. Students learn a variety of programming languages: Visual Basic C# C++ PHP SQL Python Admission Requirements Associate Degree and Diploma Program All students applying for a degree or diploma program must complete the following steps: Complete and submit an Admissions Application. Submit official transcripts from all previously attended high schools and colleges. Take the placement test and meet with a pre-advisor to review your scores. Meet with your advisor to register for classes. Apply for Financial Aid (optional). Certificate Programs All students applying for a certificate program must complete the following steps: Complete and submit an Admissions Application. Submit official transcripts from all previously attended high schools and colleges. Take the placement test and meet with a pre-advisor to review your scores. Meet with your advisor to register for classes. For more detailed information regarding these requirements, please read our Steps to Enrollment Brochure or view our website at: edu/admissions/steps-enrollment. For questions about General Admissions Requirements, please contact the Admissions Office at (910) Contact Information Diane Innes, Program Coordinator 158 Little Hall (910) We offer a concentration in Database Programming, a skill set in demand by local employers. Also offered is a concentration in Mobile Application Programming. Students are eligible for free copies of developer software from the Microsoft Developers Alliance.
