1 Office of the Assistant Principal Dear Parents and Students, + St. Francis of Rome, Religious + Greetings! The registration process for the academic year is upon us. The curriculum guides as well as updated academic policies are available at We are very excited to announce that we moved our registration process online. This move facilitates our efforts aimed towards continuous improvement. Students are encouraged to meet with individual guidance counseling faculty with questions or concerns. In this packet, you will find the schedule for course registration by class as well as a help guide. Each class will receive an orientation to the process in S period as well as a document that will explain how to access the registration portal. If you need additional information regarding a particular course or course sequence, you may contact your student s guidance counselor or the Assistant Principal. Please read through the online handbook before you begin to plan and select courses for the next year. We are adding a variety of new and challenging courses to our curriculum in addition to significant improvements in grading, sequencing, and academic policy. Everything that we do is always aimed at providing our students with the most comprehensive and engaging high school experience. As with anything new, there may be some hiccups along the way and I thank you, in advance, for all of your patience as we advance Andrean. 2 Course Planner - Guide for Freshman This guide is to help you select your courses for the next school year's schedule. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Reed (last name A-J) or Ms. Equiuha (last name K-Z). 1. Log into RDS Parent Account 2. After you log into your RDS account, click the link Request Courses. On the left (below), you will see the courses that you have already completed. 3. Begin your course selection by clicking on the FALL tab. 2

3 Course Planner - Guide for Students To add a request, find the Subject box and select a subject. Then choose a course from the dropdown menu. When the course has been selected, click on Add Course. The course will be added to the schedule grid. Some courses have been pre-selected for you, and those cannot be modified online. Those pre-selections are designated with a T (teacher recommended) or a C (counselor recommended). Click the Help button and a pop up box will describe how to add a course or alternate (elective). Hover over any symbols, to see what they mean. T C Teacher Recommended Counselor Recommended Delete/Remove the Course Move a Course Between Schedule Grid and Alternates List. The order in which the course requests are displayed does not correspond to periods of the day. This is for course selection purposes only. Single semester selections may be scheduled into a semester other than the one shown in the schedule grid. 3

4 Course Planner - Guide for Students There is additional space provided for Notes and Special Requests that you can send to your counselor. If notes are entered, click SAVE NOTE button. When you have completed your requests, click Submit Requests to Counselor and logout of the Course Planner. 5 Course Planner - Guide for Selecting Courses First, go to the following webpage: Then, open the course planner described above. As incoming Sophomores, you are required to take a full year of Theology, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages. This brings you to 12 credits for the year. Every other course is considered elective. You have 4 elective credits open for the year. For example, let s say you decide to take Journalism and Student Publications 1. Both courses are offered as semester only, so they have one credit each..this leave you with 2 open elective credits. Most Business, Art, and Technology courses are one semester. Here is a suggested way to select your courses. 1. The sophomore theology courses ( The Mission of Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ s Mission Continues) are already loaded into your planner. 2. Select the appropriate Sophomore English course (Eng10honors, Eng10 College prep) 3. Select the appropriate Social Studies course (Geography and History of the World, WorldHistoryHonors) 4. Select the appropriate Math course (Geometry, Geometry Honors, Alg2/Trip honors) 5. Select the appropriate Science course (Chemistry, Interg Chem/Physics, Chemistry Honors) 6. Select the appropriate World Language Course (French/SpanishII, French/SpanishIIHonors, Latin II or level III of any course assuming you meet the prerequisites) 7. Now, select your 4 electives. These are called ALTERNATIVES in the RDS system. You may select 4 additional courses as backup courses in case your electives are full. Explore some course in the Arts and Business/Technology. Sophomore Year 1 Course over 2 Semesters 2 Credits per course 1 Course each semester 1 Credit per course English Theology Social Studies Math Science World Language 4 additional electives Course Planner Final Permissions for Selecting Courses This course selection process can only take place in the Parent RDS account. For that reason, parent permission for courses is granted in the process of registering for courses. 5

6 Course Planner Interpretation of Course Listing On the website, you will find course offerings listed by department. The first thing that is visibile when selecting a department is Course Sequence. Below, you will find two grids: College Prep and College Prep Honors/Advanced Placement. This is a suggested sequence for students broken down by year level. 9 th 10 th 11 th 12 th BioHon ChemistryHon PhysicsHon AP Bio, AP Chem This chart details the sequence for an honors science student. The course offerings are listed as follows: S12131 Anatomy and Physiology Anatomy and Physiology explores the structure and function of the human body. This semester course provides an introduction to t.. C in Biology I or Completion of Honors Biology, C in Chemistry I and a C in Algebra I 12 You will see course code, name, description, prerequisites and which year level generally takes the course. Please be certain to review the prerequisites before selecting a course.
