2 Bismarck State College/Mandan High School Dual Credit Opportunities What is Dual Credit? Provides an opportunity for high school seniors, juniors, and sophomores to receive both high school and college credit The letter grade received in the course will be the same grade posted on both the high school and college transcript. (Students who take dual credit courses, are graded using the BSC grading school). The Bismarck State transcript does not differentiate between a class taught on the regular campus from those taught to high school students as dual credit classes

3 Dual Credit Opportunities at Mandan High School. What does this mean? Students have the opportunity to take a class offered at Mandan High School, by one of our instructors, and receive college credit through Bismarck State College What are the advantages to taking dual credit at Mandan High School? Students do not have to travel off campus Students receive instruction from one of our MHS instructors Receive college credit at a reduced rate (70%!!)

8 Who is eligible for dual credit courses? Any sophomore, junior, or senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher Students who are taking any math, or chemistry course, MUST meet placement score requirements

9 What math placement scores are required? Students may qualify, ONE of the following three ways: 1. Meet the ACT math score requirement of 21 or higher 2. Meet the PLAN math score requirement of 19 or higher 3. Take a compass test on the BSC campus, and score a 49 or higher.

10 How do I apply for Dual Credit? Step 1: Complete the online application (a guide will be provided this evening) Login/fl_ApplicantConnectLogin.asp?id=N DUSBISMST

11 How do I apply for Dual Credit? Step 2: Pay the $35.00 application fee. This can be paid online, after the application has been completed, or a check or cash may be brought in to Mrs. Caya and she will mail. (This fee only has to be paid ONE time)

12 How do I apply for Dual Credit? Step 3: Complete the Dual Credit Program Course Registration Form fall-2014-course-reg-form.pdf Please complete section I (student information) Section II completed by Mrs. Caya Section III signature of student and parent is required

13 How do I apply for Dual Credit? Step 4: bsc-ferpa-form.pdf Complete the FERPA form Academic and financial records will not be released without written consent from the student List parents/legal guardian names at the bottom, to authorize who you are releasing records too ONLY REQUIRED FOR NEW STUDENTS!

14 How do I apply for Dual Credit? Step 5: Turn in online registration confirmation page, payment if needed, registration form, and FERPA form to Mrs. Caya by Monday, May 12 th. You will NOT be registered for dual credit, unless you complete all of these steps.

15 How much do Dual Credit courses cost? Students who take Dual Credit courses at the high school, will be charged a fee of approximately $65.00 per credit, plus additional student fees. Bills will be mailed to the student s address in August. (All dual credit courses are a minimum of 3 credits) Ex) 3 credits= $ credits= $ credits= $352.65

16 Applying for Dual Credit Financial Assistance Any student who qualifies for free/reduced meals Student is eligible to receive the tuition waived on two courses each year Must complete the dual credit financial assistance application (complete student information section ONLY)

17 What else do I need to know? Once admitted into BSC, the student will receive a packet of important information. Please pay close attention to dates and deadlines. This is YOUR responsibility, NOT the high school s. Tuition is typically billed out to the student s home address by the first week of class. (Tuition is paid for by the student, NOT the high school).

18 Withdrawal and Class Drop Dropping an Individual Course It is the responsibility of the student to drop courses online though CampusConnection. This only applies to students that are enrolled in multiple courses. Withdrawing from all Courses Complete the Withdrawal to zero credits form-see Mrs. Caya

19 TRANSFERRING CREDITS BSC is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. As a result of this accreditation, course credits will transfer without difficulty. All institutions within the North Dakota University System will accept any course approved by the GENERAL EDUCATION TRANSFER AGREEMENT (GERTA).
