1 NORTH MEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL A GUIDE TO YOUR FUTURE
2 This guide is a critical tool to help our students navigate the forecasting process. We have developed a number of supports to help each of our students develop a strong academic plan. The Focus Pathway guide provides key planning tools: Focus Pathways -North is offering four Pathways to help you plan your course work and other learning experiences. The pathways organize important skills and knowledge around a group of related career fields. Academic Fine Arts Technical Arts (CTE) Pre-Professional College Credit - We are proud of the wide variety of opportunities we provide our students to earn college credit while they attend NMHS. We offer more than 40 courses through which our students may earn college credit through Southern Oregon University or Rogue Community College while in high school, including many Advanced Placement courses. In addition, RCC offers the Oregon Transfer Module (OTM). This certificate guides the student to earn college credit that will meet the general education requirements at all of the Oregon Public Universities and many of the Oregon private colleges and universities. By completing the module, a student could enter college with sophomore standing. To properly prepare for forecasting, please complete the following steps: 1. Select a Focus Pathway 2. Review graduation requirements for your grade. 3. Select courses from the Forecasting Guide * you would like to take including alternates. *The Forecasting Guide contains a listing of the course offerings along with descriptions and prerequisites. The forecasting process should prompt our students to evaluate their long-term goals and develop an academic plan that supports those goals.
3 North Medford High School College Credit Opportunities All North Medford High School students have the opportunity to earn college credit as they move through their high school careers. These credits may be earned free or at significantly reduced cost. There are three options available to earn college credit while in high school: 1) Take a NMHS course that offers credit in conjunction with Rogue Community College or Southern Oregon University. 2) Take a NMHS Advanced Placement course and pass the AP exam (your score an requirements of the university you choose to attend will dictate how much credit you may receive). 3) Take an RCC or SOU course through the RCC Underage, SOU Early Entry or Oregon Expanded Options programs at RCC or SOU while enrolled in high school. When may I start earning college credit? Students and parents should consider college credit opportunities beginning freshman year. A strong four-year plan may result in significant savings in terms of time and money. Where are these classes offered? The majority of these classes are taught on campus at North Medford High School. There are additional opportunities for college credit by taking a course at RCC or SOU. How do I get started? Begin by reviewing the NMHS Forecasting Guide and all of the Focus Pathway options. Courses with potential college credit are listed on the next page and noted by the course listings in the catalog. Once you have your plan, discuss your selection with your academic advisor.
