COLLEGE CALENDER The College is closed to commemorate the following holidays: New Years (2days); Martin Luther King Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving (2 days); and Christmas (2 days). No student hours are given for holidays. ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS Mid West Barber College reflects the attendance requirements of the profession. As a result good attendance is required and is a major contributor to satisfactory progress. Saturday attendance is mandatory. A student must complete the State Board required course hours to be able to graduate. Additional specific attendance requirements are discussed during orientation and are found in the student handbook. During each monthly grading period (see Satisfactory Progress), a student is evaluated on skill, knowledge and professionalism. CLOCK HOUR A clock hour is defined as sixty (60) minutes of theory, demonstration, floor practice, application, or customer service experience. Shears Spray Bottle Styptic Thinning Shears Uniforms (3) Vent Brush STUDENTS RIGHTS The rights and responsibilities of students are presented in Mid West Barber College s Student Handbook. GRADING SYSTEM Instructors record all grades on each student s written and practical work. Examinations are given to determine student s comprehension and instructor s success. At the end of each month, the instructor will confer with their students for the purpose of reviewing the past month s activities (grades, attendance, etc.). Satisfactory academic progress is determined at each of these intervals. The following grade scale is used to grade in both theory and practical work: A (93% - 100%) - 4 points; B (85% - 92%) - 3 points; C (77%-84%) - 2 points; D (70%-76%) - 1 point; and F (Below 70%) - Failing SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS POLICY All students must maintain satisfactory academic progress. Academic Progress is defined as follows: 1. Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and 80% attendance during each grading period. A grading period is defined as a calendar month. Any student failing to maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and 80 % attendance during a grading period will be granted a financial aid warning for the following grading period. 6 P age

7 If the student receiving Title IV funds fails to get back into satisfactory academic progress during this warning period, financial aid is suspended and the student has one additional grading period to regain satisfactory academic progress. Failure to accomplish this will result in dismissal. Students not receiving financial aid will have the same time frame to regain satisfactory academic progress. Anytime a student exceeds the 1 1/2 time-frame for completion of the program, they will automatically be dropped. 2. A student must have a minimum 2.0 GPA in order to graduate. All students at Old Town Barber College are full-time. 3. Satisfactory academic progress is determined at the end of each month. At that time students with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 (77%), current with all assignments, and a minimum attendance of 80% (AMA 100 hours) is making satisfactory academic progress. 4. The school does not issue incomplete grades. a. Student failing to complete an assignment within the designated time will have 10 points per day deducted from the earned assignment grade until the work is submitted or the grades become a 0 whichever occurs first. b. Students failing to take a test on the designated test date will have the opportunity to make up the test on the designated test makeup date only. A grade of 0 will be entered if the student fails to meet this requirement. 5. The recorded grade for a student required or choosing to repeat an assignment will be calculated by averaging the two grades together. In no case will a student be permitted to repeat an assignment more than once. 6. Students will be terminated for not maintaining satisfactory academic progress and may not appeal this decision. A terminated student may apply for re-admission after a 6 month waiting period and a personal interview with the director. MAXIMUM TIME FRAME FOR COMPLETION The maximum time-frame in which a student must complete the program is no more than 1.5 times the normal duration of that program. Students who do not meet this requirement will be dropped. REASONS FOR TERMINATION In addition to the responsibility of maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress, a student must also be aware of the potential for termination due to the following reasons: 1. Lack of attendance; 2. Noncompliance with school rules and regulations; and 3. Nonpayment of tuition and fees. 4. A student interrupting, canceling, or terminating training must notify the school immediately. MAKEUP WORK A student will have the opportunity to make up work missed or failed, under the supervision of their instructor. This work must be completed during the same evaluation period. All makeup tests and assignments will be given full credit. STUDENT COMPLAINTS/GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE Students are given a copy of Mid West Barber College s Student Handbook documenting the procedure for student complaints. This procedure is also discussed during orientation on the first day of school. The procedure is intended to provide a framework by which formal written complaints may be resolved. 7 P age
