4 Academic/Adult General Education English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes are offered on all levels to learn or improve English-speaking, reading, and writing skills. Citizenship Preparation Individuals learn about citizenship and preparation for the Naturalization Exam to work towards the goal of obtaining United States citizenship. Literacy Programs Adult Reading Program This is for adults who want to learn to read, improve their reading skills, or have difficulty reading or understanding what they read. Participants need to speak and understand English and attend classes as scheduled. This program provides opportunities to increase workforce skills. For more information, call Family Literacy Program Our Family Literacy Programs provide wonderful opportunities for parents and children to learn together. Parents who enroll in classes to improve their English or earn their GED take part in activities to support their children's learning and success in school. Benefits that participants gain in our programs include enhancing their children's self-esteem, language development, and school readiness academic skills. Child Education services are available at select sites for children of adult students in the program. 27 Registration Policies Broward Community Schools offer hundreds of classes for your personal and professional enjoyment and enrichment throughout the county. Our teachers and staff are committed to your satisfaction. We encourage you to register online now to avoid registration lines and to secure a place in your favorite class. Please keep in mind that all classes, unless designated, are for adults 18 years or older. For your convenience, we offer two options for registration: 1. Online: Click on Class Offerings. Select your class(es) and enter your choices. Click submit and print your confirmation receipt. IMPORTANT: You must bring your confirmation receipt for admittance to class. Methods of payment: Visa or MasterCard. Note: On-site registration is required for Academic/Adult General Education (ABE/GED, ESOL, Adult High School diploma, Co-Enrolled, and Literacy classes). 2. In-person registration: Registration hours vary among schools. Please check times under Locations. Methods of payment: cash, money order, Visa or MasterCard ($20.00 minimum). Activity Fee: For both online and in-person registration, a $10.00 Student Activity Fee is charged one time per person, per campus, per school year. This fee is used to offset the costs of providing school security and campus-related activities. Assessment Fee: A $10.00 Assessment (testing) Fee for ABE/GED and ESOL testing is charged for placement. Cancellation Policy: If your class is canceled for any reason, you will be contacted and will receive a full refund of all fees. If payment was made by credit card, your refund will be credited back to your card. You may need to provide additional information to complete your refund. Registration made by cash or money order will be refunded by check only. No cash refunds will be given. Withdrawal Refund Policy: If you need to withdraw, refund requests will be accepted only during the first week of class. You will receive a refund of tuition. Registration and Activity Fees are non-refundable per School Board Policy Students are required to provide the school with the original receipt in order to receive a refund.
