2 GENERAL OVERVIEW WHO WE ARE The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is a Christian, non-profit organization committed to providing rehabilitation to individuals dependent on drugs and alcohol. The ARC recognizes that a person s physical, psychological and spiritual needs must be addressed before they can make any real progress towards their recovery. The Salvation Army maximizes donations by using 83 cents of every dollar donated to provide direct services to help the most people in need. As a result, The Salvation Army is the charity that is doing the most good with contributions of money, time, and resources. WHAT WE OFFER The ARC, an entity of The Salvation Army, provides a highly effective six to twelve month spiritually based substance abuse program. Admission is voluntary, and participants who find themselves in need of The Salvation Army s rehabilitation facility and benefits receive services at no charge. Program participants (known as beneficiaries) receive a medical evaluation, nourishing food, housing, structured counseling, a work therapy program consistent with their skills/abilities, and opportunities to participate in sports and other recreational activities. Some were affluent professionals; others are high school dropouts. Some are referred by the judicial systems; others by a family member. In addition, they are not the only ones who benefit. For every person struggling with an addiction at least six (6) others are affected. These include children, siblings, friends, spouses and parents. HOW OUR PROGRAM IS FUNDED The Salvation Army ARC relies on the generosity of the community for donations of recycled goods to support our rehabilitation program. ARC expenses are funded solely from the revenue generated though our Family Store operations. Certified Donation Centers and donation drives are valuable resources for us to gather much needed items to resell at our Family Stores.

3 CERTIFIED DONATION CENTER ABOUT CERTIFED DONATION CENTERS A Certified Donation Center (CDC) is a stationary donation center where members of the community can conveniently donate their unwanted, slightly used merchandise. Items are processed and distributed for sale in local Salvation Army Family Stores. There are several different types of CDCs. 1. CDC Trailer 2. CDC Drop-Box 3. CDC Roll-Off By hosting a CDC, local businesses, organizations and venues are providing a valuable service to the community. Residents often want to donate their unwanted items; however, many times they are not aware of how to do so. CDCs make it convenient to donate. CDC TRAILER 28 ft. long, 8 ft. wide, 12 ft. high. Requires approximately 2 parking spots. Professional attendants supervise center and accept donations. Since the center is staffed, donors are assured of receiving a receipt for tax-deduction purposes. A Salvation Army representative patrols the CDC twice a day to ensure the area is being properly maintained and supervised. The Salvation Army provides a $1,000, personal injury and property damage insurance policy.

CDC Roll-Off By hosting a CDC, local businesses, organizations and venues are providing a valuable service to the community.

4 CDC DROP BOX 5 ft. long, 5 ft. wide, 6 ft. high. Requires approximately 5 square foot space. Drop box designed to accept donations of clothing, small appliances, household items, etc. No attendants required for drop box. A Salvation Army representative patrols the CDC twice a day to ensure the area is being properly maintained and supervised. CDC Roll-Off 20 ft. long, 8 ft. wide, 7 ft. high. Requires approximately 2 parking spots. A roll-off is closer to the ground than a CDC trailer. A roll-off has wheels and is removed by using a TSA roll-off flatbed truck. Professional attendants supervise roll-off location and handout tax receipts. A Salvation Army representative patrols the CDC twice a day to ensure the area is being properly maintained and supervised.

5 HOW YOU CAN HELP The Salvation Army needs collection sites throughout the area. Our objective is to place collection centers in high traffic locations not only to receive donations, but to provide a valuable service to the community. As more attention is placed on recycling, there is no better way for your business to be recognized than as a conscientious organization committed to the environment by supporting the re-use of gently used items. We would tag all our current advertising elements with the announcement and on-going reenforcement that small item donations can now be dropped at your business location. Some advertising mediums we might use to promote the location of our donation receptacle at your business location include, but are not limited to: Sponsorship banners, sandwich boards or stickers highlighting sponsorship of CDC trailer, drop box, or roll-off. In-store posters at family stores, including printed material handed out at the counter. Direct mailing (reaches thousands of households every week) Local cable TV spots Local and market wide radio and TV traffic sponsorships

6 CERTIFIED DONATION CENTER - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION INSURANCE The Salvation Army holds a $1,000,000 certificate of insurance for each CDC site. We will provide a copy of the certificate to your home office or individual site location. The property owner is not responsible for any theft, vandalism or incidents related to The Salvation Army CDC. HOURS OF OPERATION Weekdays: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Weekends: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas The Salvation Army is more than willing to work with your business or organization in regards to hours of operation. We can adjust our schedule to meet the needs of the host site. If you d like us to stay open later or close earlier we are more than happy to accommodate your needs. AFTER HOURS An ARC employee makes a final check of all sites until approximately 4:00 PM A qualified CDL (Commercial Drivers License) Driver exchanges the trailers when they are full If there are ever any concerns, feel free to contact the CDC supervisor at any time, seven days a week "What if people dump here?" We can have a truck there within a reasonable time period: Two hours or less. If we need to extend the hours of operation to avoid after hours dropoffs, we will.

7 Did you also know that The Salvation Army has operated a drive-up recycling program for over 100 years? It started in the slums of 19 th Century London, and continues today in all corners of the globe. In the United States, over 100 Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers are supported exclusively by the collection and sale of surplus and gently used household goods (including vehicles and furniture). In the early days, men with push carts were sent out to collect paper and other salvage. Horses and wagons eventually replaced the push carts, and in turn were replaced by the familiar Salvation Army trucks you see today. Today, a fleet of modern Red Shield trucks and stationary Certified Collection Centers collect the donations of a generous public to fund the rehabilitation of thousands of individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. The beneficiaries of our recycling program are PEOPLE The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Program works on the whole person body, mind and soul. It involves a regular schedule of work therapy, substance abuse counseling, and spiritual guidance. The aim is to return productive, rehabilitated clients back to society. The entire program is free to those in need. In addition, our Centers receive no government funding, no United Way or private foundation grants. We are completely supported by the sale of donated material in Salvation Army Family Stores. As a result, Certified Collection Centers are critical to the success of our rehabilitation program. If you would like to participate in recycling in its most basic form, please consider placing a Salvation Army Certified Collection Center in your parking lot or place of business.
