When four new courses were proposed in the year 2011, namely, P.G. courses, Public Administration, and International Relations and M.Phil Programmes in Political, International Relations, need base assessment was made for each of these course. Students who wish to pursue their higher studies as well as attempt to write Civil services and other competitive examinations, for a long time demanded these courses basically to serve twin proposes. To get into higher education and to update their knowledge in the subjects concerned. 12

13 The same courses are being offered in some of the colleges under the University of Madras, but, the colleges are not adequately equipped with library and other facilities. Hence, students preferred to study the courses at the University. Periodically, Chennai being regional centre for the multinational corporations in India, there is often requirements for the candidates with international relations knowledge studied at the University level. 42. Feedback received from the faculties is placed before the Departmental Committee to revise the curriculum. b. Students on staff every academic year feedback is obtained by the IQAC and the findings are communicated to the faculty individually every year. Through regular interaction and seminar/conferences organized by the department and exchanges with national and international scholars. 47. Public Tribute on Spirit of Japan on 25 th April 2011 SPEDOFEST programme for the Alternatively Able children is being conducted every year. This programme is organized by the students with little support from the Teachers. Strengths: The department has strong foundation of more than seventy five year of Weakness: existence. It is equipped with all the equipments for modernized teaching. Shortage of staff. Opportunities: Frequent interactions with major think tanks, research institutions, NGOs and INGOs. Dedicated dialogue with various institutions who help in providing internships for students Frequent visits by international and national scholars for lecture discussion and interactions with the students. Periodical interaction with Consulates, Foreign Embassies, UN organizations Students Parliament, Movie club and Outreach programme. 52. Future plans of the department. As the department has expanded to combine three M. A courses and M.Phil courses, the department plans to provide international language courses for the students. Until now the students undergo internships with local institutions, in the coming years its proposed that the students join for internships in foreign embassies, Consulates and International Organizations. 16
