3 2 THE GREAT TASTING THE GREAT TASTING ROMA WINE FESTIVAL is not just a wine fair. It is an event designed to promote a better understanding and knowledge of Italy s wines. Therefore, ROMA WINE FESTIVAL offers you two different journeys through the magical world of fine Italian wine: THE TASTING OF ITALY S BEST WINES AS SELECTED BY THE D AGATA & COMPARINI GUIDE TO ITALY S BEST WINES 2008 The D Agata & Comparini guide, now in its third edition, is Italy s only bilingual wine guide and has enjoyed tremendous success and popularity ever since its creation. Written by Ian D Agata and Massimo Claudio Comparini, who judge routinely in international wine contests and write for numerous wine magazines in Italy and abroad, it identifies the BEST 100 wines each year in Italy. The guide is the only one in which the wines are selected by a very small tasting panel limited to some of the world s very best wine writers, such as Bernard Burtschy of France, Charles Metcalfe and Derek Smedley MW of the United Kingdom. Visitors to ROMA WINE FESTIVAL will be able to taste through the wines of many of Italy s finest estates, including the wines selected in the Best 100 of and as an added bonus, there will also be a selection of estates the wines of which will have been selected for Ian D Agata s and Massimo Caludio Comparini s new wine guide Italy s Price-Pleasure s 2008, a guide detailing Italy s very best wines for euro 15 or less. THE GRAND TOUR OF ITALY S WINES Based on the famous Grand Tour of the XVIIIth century, when the young men and women of Europe came down to Italy to study its numerous artistic treasures, this section of Roma offers you the chance to sample the wines and get to know the many products of specific Italian regions, wine areas and cities. Many wines of little known producers grouped by region, sub-zone, Consortiums, associations and more, producers with small estates who may not be routinely able to market or promote their products will be on hand. 4 3 THE PRODUCERS ARE THE TRUE PROTAGONISTS OF ROMA WINE FESTIVAL CONFERENCES AWARDS PRESENTATIONS AND MEETINGS The producers are the true protagonists of ROMA WINE FESTIVAL: for them, we have devised a series of conferences and meetings hosted by world class wine experts. FEBRUARY 24 TH -29 TH ROMA WINE FESTIVAL IN THE BEST WINE SHOPS OF ROME ROMA WINE FESTIVAL and the Arte dei Vinattieri have organized a week long presentation of the wines in Romes best wine shops. The Arte dei Vinattieri is an old, well established association of thirty of Rome s best wine shops, each of which will devote a window and display area of their shop to the wines of ROMA WINE FESTIVAL and place the official Roma poster in their windows. A great opportunity for wine estates to obtain maximum visibility for their products. FEBRUARY 29 TH THE EDUCATIONAL - WINE: MAKERS MAKING MARKETS An exclusive conference with world famous speakers on the subject of wine marketing and sales. How to find an importer abroad, how to crack the difficult ex-soviet country markets, what it takes to make a splash in the US, France and the UK; the world s three most sophisticated wine markets, basics of marketing in general and specifics of wine marketing, are just some of the topics that will be broached by experts such as Bernard Burtschy (Revue du Vin de France), Charles Metcalfe (Co-chairman, International Challenge), Derek Smedley MW (Co-chairman International Challenge, & Spirit), Marc de Grazia (Marc de Grazia Selections) and Neil Empson (Empson and co.) and others. Following the conference, a round table will allow a question and answer session for all those present in which you ll be able to ask the experts all the questions you have been looking for answers to. The conference is limited to those producers and professionals participating in ROMA WINE FESTIVAL. MARCH 1 ST ROMA WINE FESTIVAL FOCUS: IL MERLOT A panel of world famous experts will tackle Merlot, one of Italy s and the worlds favourite varieties. The State of the Art lecture will be presented by Jean-Claude Berrouet, winemaker of J.P. Moueix, responsible for such great wines as Petrus, Chateau Trotanoy and many more, and generally considered the world s major authority on the grape variety.

BEST WINE MUSEUM For those out there that have tried their best in preserving the memory of our ancestors, their hard work, the wine we all grew up with or heard our parents and grand-parents talk about, dedicated to all those people and those wines that have allowed us to become what and who we are today. Because in order to understand our present and our future, we need to remember and comprehend our past. BEST STRADA DEL VINO (WINE ROAD) The Strade del Vino hve been designed to promote tourism to wine making areas and further the knowledge of these wonderful corners of Italy. The best of these will be at ROMA WINE FESTIVAL. BEST WINE LABEL Not just the best tout-court: but also the most functional. How many times have you see plain ugly labels? And how may times have you found those that tell you little or nothing? A panel of judges will decide the best of the lot. BEST CONTRIBUTION TO THE SAFEGUARD OF ITALY S NATIVE GRAPE VARIETIES Italy has numerous native grapes from which to make wine: no other country comes close. In a moment when everyone is jumping on the bandwagon with a new grape being discovered, with little scientific evidence to back those claims, an award meant to identify those who have devoted their lives to the autochtonous grapes of Italy.
