3 Interactive Programs The South Australian Whale features a purpose - built classroom, the Southern Right Room, which caters for large groups, up to 30, in a private, safe, and secure learning environment. programs run for a duration of 30mins -1hr* and are tailored to specific year levels based on the Australian Curriculum (see pages 4-7 for curriculum links). Each program is themed to complement the South Australian Whale s Whale Pack - a comprehensive tool for teachers which includes a Whale themed Unit of Work incorporating a ten week program of Science activities. A number of full-day packages, mobile unit presentations, English as a Second Language programs and Teacher Professional Learning session are also available. Please contact one of our SA Whale team on to discuss your class /learning needs. Due to the high level of demand for education programs, we recommend that teachers book as far in advance as possible. Years 1-7 Grubs Up! develops students knowledge of whale features, physiology and behaviour. This program uses water-based experiments to demonstrate the feeding techniques of adult and calf baleen (mysticeti) whales. Green Whales English as a Second Language (ESL) and Special Needs Tourism Studies Green Whales focuses on the local whale watching industry s role within ecotourism & its effect on the economy. Participants learn about Encounter Bay s historic whaling industry and its influences on whale watching today. This program is specifically tailored to meet the needs of the participants & is delivered to appropriate language levels. 8 Discovery Based Tours The South Australian Whale s Discovery Tours are designed to be fun, interactive and educational for students, teachers and parents! This NEW approach to children s guided tours enables them to experience the and its exhibits. Tours allow children to explore the in an interactive way, report information to the class they have learnt from their exploration, ask questions, use problem solving skills and lateral thinking and most of all have fun!!! Suitable for all ages, Discovery Based Tours offer an alternative to curriculum based classroom education programs (also offered by the ) whilst maintaining relevant educational outcomes for students. Discovery Tours include: Storytelling Bone identification Role playing Explore, investigate and report activities Tours are scheduled for 45 minutes duration and end with a short 3D film in the Fisheye 3D Theatre. 9 Whales on Wheels Mobile Unit Let us come to you! The South Australian Whale s Mobile Unit is a travelling al Unit which delivers interactive performances and hands-on classroom based science experiments on school campus. Professor Blubber and his Research Team will travel to your school (or nominated site) to entertain and educate students about whales and South Australia s marine environment. The Mobile Unit offers: 1. The Professor Blubber Show - Professor Blubber and his Team perform a stage show using music, humour and interactive participation to enthuse students about whales, whale watching and the marine environment of South Australia. 2. Professor Blubber s Green Submarine - take a journey under the Southern Ocean to explore the sea creatures that inhabit our waters and learn about saving our marine environment. 3. Grossology - discover the gross and disgusting facts about marine animals living in local waters and participate in gooey science experiments. Additional Options: Whale Science in your OWN Classroom - Why not let us bring our interactive education programs to you! Choose from our range of Science based classroom programs. 12 School Holiday Whalefest Programs Come and join us each and every school holiday for a sensational science experience! The South Australian Whale offers holiday programs for primary aged children aged 5 12 years (younger children may participate if supervised by an adult). Sessions for the general public are on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week of the school holidays and OSHC s and group bookings are welcome Monday to Friday of each week. Programs include hands-on science based experiments, activities and mind-boggling feats of science, magic and discovery developed around different marine themes each holidays. Students will be enthralled by our demonstrations, and mind-boggling feats of science, magic and discovery in a safe and enjoyable environment. How such large mammals have adapted to living in the ocean? You will learn the answers to these and many other questions on a Guided Tour of the South Australian Whale. The offers 30 and 60 minute Guided Tours of the. Bookings are essential and tours can be scheduled between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm, seven days per week (excluding Christmas Day).
