8 Working memory Working memory is the ability to actively hold information in the mind needed to do complex tasks such as reasoning, comprehension and learning.

We don t consider how we use the working memory, or how we remember words we have read, but we expect it from our pupils when they decode letters gather letters to words read the word aloud understand the meaning of a word and at the same time end up understanding the content of the text from reading the single words
