1 Tarrant County College District Historic Photographs From the TCC Public Relations and Marketing Department History The photographs in this collection provide a photographic record of the history of Tarrant County College. They include images of the construction of the college, students and faculty, College academic life, and related activities. The images date from the founding of the College in 1967 to the late 1990s. Most of these photographs reflect the history of the college in the 1970 through the 1980s. A smaller percentage cover the 1900s and 2000s, mostly form the Southeast campus. Provenance This collection was donated to the Archives by the Public Relations and Marketing Department. The images were created for use in various college publications and marketing projects to promote the interest of the College. These photographs are the property of the Tarrant County College District. This collection is available to researchers by appointment. Please contact the TCCD Archives. Scope and Description The Public Relations and Marketing Department Photograph collection consist of 17 record boxes containing photographs created for various College publications and other projects. The publications include College annuals, student publications such as literary magazines, newsletters, student guides and directories, faculty directories, brochures promoting College programs and classes, and other publications designed to promote the College in the community. The majority of these photographs were created to illustrate the everyday activities of the students, faculty and staff of Tarrant County College. Taken as a whole, the collection provides a photographic history of Tarrant County College from its founding in 1967 into the 2000s. There are also photographs recording the construction of the South, Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast Campuses. The newest facilities the Trinity River Campus and Trinity East are not yet well represented although there are some constriction photographs of Trinity East. The collection is divided into four Series: Series I Campus History: Photographs recording the history of each campus from construction to opening, to the first years of activity. The South, Northeast, Northwest and Southeast Campuses are represented. Series II TCJC-TCC District Campuses Many of these are from the earliest years of the College. Most were created for Annuals and student magazines and literary journals. Many were made for Projection Magazine, a District-wide publication. Most of these photographs reflect the 1
2 activities of students and faculty, or illustrate the programs offered by the College. Photographs in this Series are from the South, Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast Campuses. Series III Programs and Classes This series consist of four groups of photographs, each arranged in alphabetical order. These images were created to illustrate academic programs offered by the College. They were used in various District publications, such as projection Magazine, or in pamphlets and brochures promoting the programs and classes. Some illustrate services offered by the College, such as financial aid, library and computer access, and child care. Most of these appear to date from the 1970s into the early 1980s. Series IV Events: Miscellaneous photographs 1990s 2000s Most of these photographs are of events and celebrations throughout the District. Most are dated and identified by event, date and campus. People are rarely identified. Most of these are 4X7 or 4X6 color prints. Series V Staff and Faculty photograph For several years in the 1960s and 1970s photographs were used in staff and faculty directories. When the practice of publishing picture directories was discontinued in the late 1970s, fewer staff and faculty photographs were made. They were kept on file for use on an as needed basis in various publications, and the occasional press release.
