21 The seminars and lectures were well organised and interesting. I also like the atmosphere that encourages intercommunication among students. Oksana Letyago Study Abroad Student, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Russia Assessment Modules are assessed in a number of ways and assessments can be made up of different components such as written examination, coursework and presentations. Different components may carry different weightings and will vary from module to module and class to class. Information regarding the assessments methods for each module can be found in the course syllabus. Class sizes Our seminars are limited to 25 students and language classes to 12. Fashion and Design classes may be even smaller. This creates an excellent environment for learning and gives students the personal attention they need to excel in their studies. Academic Transcript / Record of Achievement Students should speak to their home institution about how credits are transferred. At the end of the semester students receive a transcript or a record of achievement which outlines the modules taken and the grade and marks achieved in each component of the module. Attendance Regent s University London has an attendance policy which encourages academic responsibility and seriousness. Attendance is monitored to ensure that students have the best experience at Regent s.

22 Academic Matters continued 160 partner institutions in 28 countries worldwide ECTS The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a system used across Europe for credit transfer. This allows European educational institutions to translate marks from one institution to another. By using ECTS, transparency of curricula and learning achievements is created, which in turn facilitates academic recognition. ECTS is based on the principle that 60 credits measure the workload of a full-time student in one academic year. Normally, 30 credits are given for six months (a semester) and 20 credits for a term (a trimester). The student workload of a full-time study programme in Europe amounts in most cases to 1,500 1,800 hours per year and one credit represents a total of working hours. (Workload in ECTS consists of the time required to complete all planned learning activities such as attending lectures, tutorials, preparation of projects, examinations, independent and private study). Students studying on UK validated programmes will be able to receive ECTS on completion of their study period at Regent s. Credits UK validated programmes Credit is awarded for the achievement of the specified learning outcomes for each module. One credit is equivalent to 10 notional learning hours. Generally a fulltime undergraduate workload is 120 credits per year. Therefore an undergraduate workload is equivalent to 1,200 notional learning hours per academic year. Most undergraduate modules are worth 10 or 20 credits (5 or 10 ECTS). US validated programmes Under the US system, a total of 128 credit hours are required for a degree. The recommended academic load for full-time students is 16 credit hours each semester. Classes in Regent s American College London (RACL) typically meet for two 1.5 hour sessions or one 3 hour session per week. Most classes are worth 3 credit hours.

23 Grading scale Students following our Liberal Arts programme will receive credit based on the number of classes taken with credits transferred back at the home institution. A grade point average (GPA) is calculated on all graded work. Applicants should consult a member of the Study Abroad Office or a senior member of academic faculty at the home institution to confirm the number of credits that will be received. Credits are awarded on the 4 point GPA scale. Grading Scale British Classification American (4.0 scale) First Class Upper Second Class Lower Second Class Third Class Fail 2.5 Grades for students following the UK grading system will be calculated on percentages. The table below gives an overview of the grading scheme % Grade Classification Description 70% + First Class Exceptional standard of work 60-69% Upper Second Class Very good above average standard, minor errors 50-59% Lower Second Class Good overall sound work, but with some errors 40-49% Third Class Satisfactory work has met the minimum passing requirements Below 40% Fail Work is of an unsatisfactory standard

26 Regent s History With over 100 years of history our institution has a strong background in education. Regent s Park itself, also known as the jewel in the crown was originally appropriated by King Henry VIII as a hunting ground. In 1908 Bedford College, a ladies College, took a Crown lease on South Villa in the Inner Circle, moving into Regent s Park from Bedford Square in London. Establishing many existing buildings on this site including Reid Hall, which is now campus accommodation and the Tate Library, Bedford College remained on the site until the 1970s when it moved to expand its programme (resulting in a merger and eventually becoming Royal Holloway University). I felt at home. Everybody, including professors and staff helped me every time I needed any help Maria Cecilia Patelepen Study Abroad Student Universidad Argentina de la Empresa, Argentina

27 This site was established as a Study Abroad programme for Rockford College, Illinois in the US who took a Crown lease in As other educational institutions came to the site, these merged together to form what is today known as Regent s University London. As part of our vision and strategy we gained our Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAPs) in July 2012 and University title in March This enables us to develop exciting projects such as joint / double degrees and creates further learning, teaching and research opportunities for our academic staff. In April 2013 Regent s acquired the London campus of the American InterContinental University (AIU). This acquisition has added new programmes and study abroad options to our portfolio and opened up even more possibilities for Study Abroad students. We believe that our offering is comprehensive and suited to student s needs. Marylebone has a long established history dating back to the 15th century when a new church and parish of St Mary s was created. The local community named themselves St. Mary s by the river Tyburn which was close by. This name has evolved over time into St. Mary-by-the-Tyburn and finally what we now know as St Mary-le-bone. Boasting some of London s most beautiful Georgian architecture and impressive garden squares thanks to the Howard de Walden and Portman Estates, Marylebone Village is now a destination for shopping, dining and the arts. As one of London s most stylish and eclectic shopping streets, Marylebone High Street is also a good location to spot one or two celebrities!

Accommodation Fees Some institutions pay Regent s directly for student accommodation; while in other cases students pay Regent s directly. Contact your home institution to find out what applies to you. Day to Day Costs London is cheaper than you think! It may be surprising to learn but London has previously been voted the most cost-effective UK city for students. While spending opportunities are endless, it is possible to get by on a budget by planning ahead and comparing prices. See the London University Guide for details on money saving tips cost-of-studying-in-london Scholarships / Grants Students requiring financial assistance while studying abroad should inquire at the International Office at their home institution and make arrangements in advance. Your step by step guide to applying 1 Find your programme research the modules verify the credits with your Study Abroad Advisor at your home institution 2 Complete the application process Complete the application form indicating your module choices Get a copy of your official transcript Take a copy of your passport (picture page) Write a letter of motivation (independent students only) Submit all documents electronically by the deadline 3 Find out if you need a visa to study in the UK Are you a visa national? (check with UKBA) How long do want to stay in the UK? Do you want to work part-time while studying at Regent s? Make financial arrangements 4 Get accepted Receive your letter of acceptance and pre-arrival information Obtain visa support documentation (if required) 5 Get booking Make travel arrangements Get the necessary insurance Plan on what to pack (clothes, medication etc.) 6 Get prepared Complete online enrolment Register for English language classes (if applicable) 7 Get here! Make sure you arrive for Orientation on time

35 Visa and Immigration EU / EEA nationals do not require a visa to study in the UK. Students from outside the EU may require a visa for study programmes. In some cases students may need to apply for a student visa in their home country prior in coming to the UK. This can be a lengthy process so planning in advance is advisable. Students requiring a visa should indicate this on the application form. Once accepted Regent s University London will issue students with the relevant documentation to support visa applications with the Home Office / United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA). Immigration regulations and requirements change frequently. While this is correct at time of print, you should visit our website for the most up to date information and consult the websites mentioned. Please note that the Regent s staff are not legally trained to give any immigration advice on applying for visas. It is therefore the student s responsibility to check whether they need a visa to study in the UK and if so to ensure that they apply for the correct type in sufficient time. Applications for Tier 4 visas require students to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds in their bank account to support their time abroad. They will also be required to demonstrate that they meet specific English language requirements. Further details can be found on the UKBA website and Contact inbound@regents.ac.uk with any question The orientation week is very good, it gives us the opportunity to meet other people Mercedes Maria Samra Study Abroad Student Universidad del CEMA, Argentina
