5 !5 SUBTITLE EMBEDDING If you need to hardcode subtitles into your movie, you might be interested in this service. You can choose fonts, layouts, colors and positions based on your preferences. This service is especially useful for corporate videos where a permanent integration of subtitles may be desirable. You can request the service even if you ve already subtitled your videos into multiple languages. All you need to do is provide us with your.srt or any other subtitle file format (including Word) and we ll take it from there.

7 !7 THE TALENT BEHIND SUBTITLING If standard professional and technical translation demands special skills and qualifications, subtitling is an ever more complex task. It s not just about studying languages, speaking multiple languages fluently, being a bilingual person or a specialist in your areas of expertise. In subtitling you don t just transfer words and ideas while adapting them to the target language and readers. Subtitlers carry a message and stand in between cultural settings, almost like riding a horse and having one foot in the source language, the other in the target language. They constantly have to deal with idioms and slang both in the source and target languages. Due to time constraints and character limits that allow for a comfortable reading speed, they have to condense dialogue without losing the essence of it and still convey every single little nuance. Besides, they have to be proficient in spotting and synchronization according to the subtitling guidelines. They have to determine with utmost accuracy when exactly a subtitle should go on and off the screen based on the speech rhythm, they make sure subtitles don t go over a shot change wherever possible. They have to use straightforward syntactical units and distribute subtitle text from line to line in sense blocks and/or grammatical units.
