Introduction to ProForm Rapid elearning Studio The ProForm Rapid elearning Studio includes the ProForm Course Authoring Tool, the SWiSH Rapid Animation Tool, and the RapidCam Screen Recording Tool. This guide provides information on using the ProForm Course Authoring Tool. What is ProForm? The ProForm Course Authoring Tool allows you to quickly create interactive Flash- based SCORM- conformant e- learning courseware without having to know a line of code or learning a complex authoring environment. Without a lot of technical knowledge, you can easily build courses on your desktop and move them to your LMS. Why Use ProForm? With ProForm Rapid elearning Studio, you can: Quickly create Flash- based e- learning courses, quizzes, tests, learning games, and branching scenarios without knowing how to use or owning Flash Build from form- based templates for fastest development or layout content visually Add an integrated glossary Add external audio, video, images and Flash movies (.SWF) into the course content Quickly make an existing PowerPoint presentation into an e- learning course Easily build interactive learning activities that move beyond quiz questions (such as branching soft- skill simulations) Package your course to communicate with any SCORM conformant LMS Customize the look/feel of the course interface for your organization Integrate SWiSH and RapidCam movies. Other ProForm Rapid elearning Studio Tools These tools are part of the ProForm Rapid elearning Studio, but are not discussed in this guide: SWiSH Rapid Animation Tool: In SWiSH you can import and position images and text, synchronize audio, animate anything, then export as a Flash movie (SWF) and include in your ProForm course, with no programming required. RapidCam Screen Recording Tool: Record PowerPoint presentations or software demonstrations, then export as Flash movies and include in your ProForm course. PROFORM 1
Getting Started 1. Open a new project from the menu by clicking on ProForm Project link or by opening from the New Project icon from the toolbar at the top. 2. Fill in all the necessary fields: a. Select a project folder. Make a new folder to keep all your project files in. Note: Each project needs to be in a separate and unique folder. b. Type in a project file name (this will not be shown to the learner; it is only used by ProForm to identify the project). c. Type in a title (this will be shown to the learner at the top of the course interface). d. Select a page transition by using the pull down tab. e. Select the course style. See the text box to the left of this page for tips on selecting a course style. Some styles allow you to change the colors in the template and some will not. 2 PROFORM f. Do not turn on any Data Tracking Properties until right before you publish your course (turning them on before may cause problems with previewing the course because ProForm will be searching for the LMS to communicate with). g. Click the OK icon at the bottom. ProForm will now create your project by copying the necessary files to your project folder. This may take a few minutes. Note: Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting the course style: The resolution of the screen your learners will be using (If you know your learners will be using 800x600 resolution, make sure to select a course style that is 800x600. If you aren t sure, selecting 1024x768 will give you more screen space for your training content. Flash Player 8 must be installed to use styles labeled player8 (or any later versions). You should also select a player8 style if you plan on tracking student data with an LMS or if your learners will be accessing the course with FireFox or a Mac browser.
Creating Content Once your new project is created, you can start creating content. 1. Start creating content by adding a new topic. Topics are like folder dividers that separate different pages. Notice that the title you type in for the topic also appears in the table of contents at the left of the screen. 2. To add a page under this topic, click on the Add a Page or Term icon at the bottom left. a. Give the page a title. Then use the pull down tab to select what kind of page you want. IF you decide to change the page type later, you can do so by clicking on the pull down tab labeled Page Template at the bottom right of the screen. b. Fill in the blank fields. Click on any blank field to type in text. Click on folders to browse for and select files for audio, image, video, or SWF. When incorporating new media into the course, ProForm will ask you if you want to copy the file into the course structure. Hit YES. c. Previewing: After you have provided a path for all media types on the page, you can preview. First hit the save icon to save the newest version of your course. Then hit the preview icon at the top left of the screen. PROFORM 3
Working with Different Types of Media In ProForm there are pages that incorporate text, images, sounds, videos, SWFs, or PowerPoints. Instead of giving instructions on every single page type, here you will find information on how to use the different types of media. After learning how to treat the different types of media, you will be able to successfully complete the steps of any page type. Text Enter the text into the blank page text field. You can make simple edits such as: Bolding, italicizing, or underlining, Right, center, or left justification, Bullets Add a link (This feature will be explained further in the section labeled Creating Links. ) Font color Font size Font type Notes The text in notes works the same way as the regular text field. Make sure that you select a note in the pull down menu or your note will not appear. Image ProForm can only upload images in.jpg format. Image File: click on the folder icon to browse for the file you want to use. Image Position: Use the pull down tab to select the position of your image: left, left and center, right, right and center, center, or bottom center. Caption Heading: The heading the learner will see for the picture Caption Text: The text that will appear below the picture in a caption. 4 PROFORM
Audio Proform can only upload audio files that are in MP3 format. 1. Click on the folder to browse for the audio file. 2. If you do not want the audio to play automatically and require the learner to click the play button on the media controller, then remove the checkmark from this box. Video Videos must be in FLV format to be compatible with ProForm. 1. Click on the folder to browse for the video file. 2. Choose the position of the video on the page by using the pull down tab. 3. If you do not want the video to play automatically and require the learner to click the play button on the media controller, then remove the checkmark from this box. SWF 1. Click on the folder to browse for the SWF file. 2. (Optional) The Caption Heading will appear immediately beneath the image in bold. If you leave this field blank, the learner will not see it or the Caption Text field. 3. (Optional) The Caption Text immediately follows the Caption Heading. 4. If you do not want the SWF to play automatically and require the learner to click the play button on the media controller, then remove the checkmark from this box. 5. Choose the position of the SWF on the page by using the pull- down tab. 6. Changing the width and height: If your movie doesn t position properly, click on the locks to unlock the fields and then type in a width and height Note: For more information on how to fill out any field on a page, click on the green help icon at the top right of the screen. 6 Quiz Page To add a quiz or test to your course, click on the Add a New Page icon, select quiz as the page type in the pull down menu and click OK. Fill in the fields: An explanation of each field is given below. Title: The title will show up in the table of contents. 6 PROFORM Quiz ID: Each quiz needs to have its own unique quiz ID. This can be anything you want, but cannot include spaces or symbols. Quiz Type: Select either review or test. IN a review, the learner is allowed to move back and view past questions. In a test, the learner is restricted from viewing past questions. The test option also allows you to randomize the questions, using a subset from a larger question pool, so that the test is never the same. Questions to Ask: Use this field to indicate the total number of questions that are contained in the quiz. This setting is required. If you are creating a randomized test, set this number to the total number of questions you want displayed from the pool, not the total number of questions in the pool. If you are not using randomized testing, set this number equal to the total number of questions you have added and questions will be displayed in the order they are listed in the Quiz Questions list box. Pass Percentage: Enter a score that the learner must achieve in order to receive a completion status. Use this field in conjunction with the Record Lesson Status field. When this score is achieved the attribute selected in the Record Lesson Status field will be executed. Record Lesson Status: Use this setting to indicate how you would like to record lesson status when the quiz is complete. You can choose to record a status for the entire course (SCO) once the learner has completed or passed the quiz. Selecting pass or fail based on score will record a pass or fail status for the SCO depending on the learner s score in relation to the number entered in the Passing Score field. If you choose complete for finishing quiz, a status of completed will be sent to the LMS once the quiz is completed. This status is sent no matter the score received. You can also select a pass/fail or completed criteria in conjunction with the apipagecomplete function. If you choose api (pass or fail), a function call will be made to the apipagecomplete function only when a passing score is met. If you choose api (complete), a function call will be sent as soon as the quiz is completed. This does not mean that the course (SCO) is automatically recorded as complete or pass or
fail. It is dependent upon the status of the other pages in the course. If they are all complete as well then the status is sent. If you are creating a SCORM 1.2 course (SCO), you may want to select pass or incomplete. This attribute also uses the Passing Score number. If the learner receives a passing score, a status of passed is sent. If the learner does not pass then a status of incomplete is sent. An incomplete status instead of fail will still let them access the course in certain browsers. If you are not communicating with an LMS, you can leave this setting unselected. In order to use the apipagecomplete function for determining completeness you must set it up in the Project Settings. Min Percentage: The Minimum Percentage setting is used with SCORM and AICC data tracking. Enter a maximum score percentage possible for the quiz. For example, you can enter 0 for zero percent. Max Percentage: The Max Score setting is used with SCORM and AICC data tracking. Enter a maximum percentage score possible for the quiz. For example, you can enter 100, for one hundred percent. Quiz Intro Heading: A heading given at above the Intro Text. Quiz Intro Text: The text that learner views before taking the quiz (such as instructions or an explanation). Adding, Editing, and Deleting Questions 1. Click on the Add icon to the right of the Quiz Question field. 2. Select the type of question you want 3. Click on OK. 4. To edit a question, click on the question to select it, then click on the Edit button. 5. To delete a question, click on the question to select it, then click on the Delete button. The settings for each type of quiz question will be described in the section titled Types of Quiz Questions. PROFORM 7

Games Including games in your course is a great way to give your learners a chance to practice what they have learner and also to learn new things. Games can act both as an informal self- assessment and also a learning tool. Games often push learners past the superficial learning stage, causing them to build relationships between concepts and gaining a greater depth of knowledge. And as an added benefit, games are fun! ProForm includes five game templates: Categories: Create up to five categories and up to 20 flash cards. The learner, during the game, will be required to choose the correct category for every flash card that they are presented with. Concentration: The Concentration game template is a commonly known game, and has the basic rules and regulations that the classic game of concentration has. The game allows you to create 8 pairs of matches for the learner to choose from. This type of game is especially useful when you are helping learners remember key terms and their definitions, or for any other type of matching interaction. Each of your matching pairs will be randomly hidden behind a four- by- four tiled display. The learner is allowed to click on two separate tiles each time, hoping to find the two that match. The learner can continue until they manage to match all of the tiles, after which an animation will appear behind the tiles. Risk It All: This is a game similar to roulette. It gives your players a number of "Reserves," which they can bet on an upcoming multiple choice question. If they answer the question correctly, they receive the number of reserves that they bet. If they answer incorrectly, they lose the number of reserves. The goal is to make it through all of the questions (up to 15) and have the most money at the end. Scatterbrained: This is a Jeopardy - like game template that allows you create a fun interaction for the learner. It allows you to select 5 separate categories, to choose the point- values associated with each row, and to create multiple choice questions for the learner. Trouble with Triples: Create up to 25 terms or phrases and add 3 terms that match with the original term. The game will test the learner's ability to match the three correct terms with each of the 25 original terms or phrases. You can read about the necessary settings for each of these games on the following pages. PROFORM 31
