Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors and their parents are welcome to learn about exploring colleges, completing applications and athletic recruiting. A REMINDER TO ALL SENIORS: Check with us to make sure that you have enough credits and the courses you need to graduate. REMEMBER, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure you have what you need to graduate. TRADE FAIR OCTOBER 31 2 & 3 PERIODS IN THE CAFETERIA. 14 different Craftmans from Northeast Ohio SIGN UP IN THE SENIOR GUIDANCE OFFICE NOW UPCOMING TEST DATES: ACT December 14 you must sign up by November 8. SAT December 7 you must sign up by November 8. If you need the writing portion of the ACT, you have to retake the whole test. Check with your school to see if it is needed. Public schools, as of September 2010, that require the writing ACT are: Cincinnati, Kent, Ohio State and Toledo. Recommended for admissions include Akron and Miami. SCHOOL FEES: Be sure to see our school treasurer to take care of fines, fees, etc. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! REMEMBER THERE IS A $25 SENIOR FEE DUE NOW. Before you can get a parking pass, seniors must have ALL fees paid (not just the $25 senior fee). HONOR DIPLOMA: If you want to receive an HONOR DIPLOMA at Commencement, you must complete a verification form. It is not automatic! Forms are available in the Senior Guidance Office. You must meet 7 of the 8 criteria listed. Applications are due December 16.

2 COLLEGE VISITATION FORMS are available in the Senior Guidance Office. Make sure you READ and FOLLOW the procedure outlined so there will be no problem with your absence being verified. You are allowed a maximum of two (2) days for College Visitations during your senior year (not YSU), and no college visit will be a verified absence after April 1. The top half of the form must be turned into the Attendance Office before the visit. If you are considering college, you should check into the entrance requirements for the college or university you plan to attend. Check to see which test they require ACT or SAT. If they require ACT, see if the writing portion is needed. Most of the colleges our students attend require the ACT. Books are available in the Senior Guidance Office and the Media Center that will answer these questions for you. College catalogs, viewbooks, applications, and scholarships arrive daily. Make it a habit to stop in the Senior Guidance Office weekly to check out the new information. COLLEGE APPLICATIONS When you apply to a college, bring a stamped envelope (usually 2 stamps are needed), completed application and admission fee (check or money order no cash) to Mrs. McGlynn or Mrs. Dockry and they will send your transcript and a copy of your ACT/SAT scores to the school. Private college representatives told us that a teacher who knows you well is the best source for a recommendation. Be courteous! Give them at least a week to get the finished project to you! It is also a good idea to take the time to write a thank you note for their time and effort on your behalf. Pay attention to deadlines. REMEMBER, don't apply to too many colleges because your application fee is non-refundable. If your admission to a college is borderline, a visit to the campus helps. Getting to know you will help in their decision. Schedule your visit with the admissions department of the college. Ask to meet with a professor or visit a classroom. If you plan to attend YSU for a year and then transfer, it is best to contact a transfer counselor at the school you plan to attend later and get a list of classes that they will accept and that will apply for your program of study. is a website devoted to the transfer process of Ohio colleges. Courses that can be transferred are included on the site. Most colleges prefer that you apply online. Even YSU is going paperless. Remember to request transcripts from us! Bring in a stamped, addressed envelope. NCAA Clearinghouse information is available in the Senior Guidance Office or from your coach. You must register online. Pick up the website information in the Senior Guidance Office. Remember only athletes wanting to compete at the D1, D2 level need to apply.
