1 Graduates Excel in Medical School Spotlight on Dr. T J Stidham Dr. Stidham graduated from University with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology on the Biomedical Sciences Track in He was accepted into seven MD programs and chose to attend. As a medical student, he was an OSU College of Academic Merit Scholar due to his high class ranking for all 4 years. He received the Laughlin-Craig Academic Merit Scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. IS Y a resident in pediatrics at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University College of. He is involved in multiple child focused outreaches throughout Columbus including Clowning in Columbus, The Childhood League, Teddy Bear Safari, Camp Physician/Volunteer at Camp Hamwi (a summer camp for children with Type 1 diabetes), and various advocacy projects. Spotlight on Bethany Heidenreich Bethany Heidenreich was awarded her Baccalaureate Degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from University in May She graduated from the Honors Program Summa Cum Laude and was selected as the Outstanding Honors Graduate and the 2012 Alumnus of Tomorrow by the university, for her commitment to the university through achievement, academics, service and leadership on campus. Heidenreich is now in her second year at the Heritage College of Osteopathic, at Ohio University, Athens, where she has a 4 year full-ride scholarship from the U.S. Army. She plans to pursue a surgical residency and eventually work overseas in medical missions. About University, Heidenreich says, "Other schools have biology programs, but nothing can compare to Shawnee's biomedical program. It prepares you for medical school, like no other undergraduate program can. I can't say enough good things about it. The high level of academic challenge and medical focus is unique to and will allow you to not just survive medical school, but thrive!" UNIVEASITY

2 Shadowing Pre-med students have the opportunity to observe medical professionals in a clinical or private practice setting. Practice Interviews Shawnee faculty conduct practice interviews with each pre-med student applying to medical school. Community Service Pre-med students have participated in many community service activities including blood drives, and the Halloween carnival. Other Activities Research Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society sponsors an annual convention where students present their research. Grants Students can receive research grants from Tri-Beta each year. Several Shawnee students have received grants. BIOS Tri-Beta publishes a quarterly journal of undergraduate research papers. Tri Beta Activities Social Activities The Pre-Med club sponsors numerous social activities including rafting trips, holiday parties, and an annual banquet. MCAT Preparation Pre-Med club has MeAT study sessions and practice exams as well as providing study guides. Med School Visits Each quarter, the Pre Med club visits area medical schools to meet with admissions counselors and tour facilities. Pre-Med Club Activities Lab Assistants Pre-med students often serve as lab assistants for the Department in courses such as anatomy, microbiology, physics, and chemistry. Conferences Students have attended the District conventions and national meeting to present their research. Speakers Pre-Med club brings in speakers from various areas of medicine to talk about medical school and their specialty.

5 Pre-Medical Studies Program Although students in any undergraduate major can attend medical school, many choose a degree in biology. Most medical schools require only a handful of science classes for admission: General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics. At, we believe that students who have taken more science classes will be better prepared for the rigorous science-heavy curriculum of a medical program. University's pre-med program is focused around the BS in Biology degree with the Biomedical Sciences Track. On this track, students take several upper level anatomy and microbiology classes which are medically focused. Among these are a cadaver based Advanced Anatomy course, a Diagnostic Microbiology class, Neuroanatomy, and Immunology. Because this program is challenging, over 90% of students who complete the pre-medical program and apply are accepted into a graduate or professional school.
