3 2. Giving Back It s a way of life at Centenary College Community service is a core value for faculty, staff and students at Centenary College. During your first week at Centenary you will participate in Community Plunge a day-long effort that engages all members of the College community in service projects in and around Hackettstown.The Community Service Office coordinates this and other volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Students also use their own initiative to make a difference.this past April many parts of New Jersey experienced flooding during severe rainstorms.a group of students and faculty assisted a family in cleaning up their badly damaged home.with activities like this and College-sponsored service projects including Alternate Spring Break, Midnight Run and the ongoing Katrina Relief Project, it is no wonder that each year students donate more than 25,000 hours of volunteer service to the community. In an MSNBC national broadcast about the 100-plus Centenary volunteers who spent the winter break rebuilding homes on the Gulf Coast, one student said I just wanted to give some of that hope back. Concern for community is an integral part of the Centenary experience one that nurtures a lifelong commitment to helping others. So whether your interest is volunteering during the Blood Drive sponsored by Athletics, helping with an animal adoption day, cleaning up a park or tutoring a child, your enthusiasm and interest in making a difference will have an impact at Centenary College and beyond. Many graduates are so moved by volunteer activities they participated in as students that they incorporate service into their lives well beyond graduation.
