Who We Are Gateways to Transformation is a treatment program that specializes in trauma, substance abuse, and eating disorder treatment in Boulder County, Colorado. Offering Residential, and Intensive Outpatient programs primarily for women (OP is co-ed and available for adult and teenage clients as well). Gateways to Transformation offers dual diagnosis and creates custom treatment programs involving nutrition, DBT, CBT, community, transpersonal psychology, and our signature equine therapy programs. Gateways to Transformation is a different program because of its ability to synthesize the latest psychological methods with mind-body-spirit programming including equine psychotherapy and riding therapy, art therapy, DBT, CBT, neuroscience, community and nutrition in a customizable way. This not only helps each client rehabilitate but empowers them with life skills that make recovery a part of their everyday life. Our main goal is to help every client be able to live a happy, healthy, and productive life--whatever that might mean to them, that is successful for them and the world around them. 1
Programs Our Methods Phoenix Rising Changing Leads Equine assisted psychotherapy, equine assisted coaching, and equine riding therapy is a central component of everything we do and our equine philosophy and methodology is enshrined in The Phoenix Rising programs. Heroine s Journey This experiential program is exclusive to Gateways to Transformation and is designed to help the facility s clients travel down the Heroine s mythic journey and come back to herself with a healthier more holistic sense of self. The main lesson and goal of this program is to help the client begin to value herself and the world around her again. Nutrition Program (CORE) Our nutritional support program combines gardening, weekly meal preparation with natural organic healthy foods, menu planning, and shopping to help take clients from gardening to kitchen setup to feeding their body in a healthy manner. From Victim to Victory This program was designed specifically for women. Because trauma is an underlying issue, trauma affects all other treatment. This program utilizes equine assisted psychotherapy, horse riding therapy, experiential, and somatic therapy, transpersonal therapy, DBT, and CBT. This unique combination is considered crucial to all the other work done at this facility. Helplessness to Health This program empowers the client with skills to reduce anxiety and perfectionism while honor both mind and body. This method allows resistance to dissolve so that self-esteem improves with time and personal work. This program focuses on eating disorders and helping the client learn to work positively with other beings starting with our equine staff. The Final Journey As a apart of the spiritual support and practice each client experiences a Final Soul Journey before they leave the program. Taking place in the gorgeous Colorado Rockies, each client will travel to the mountains for a period of spiritual ceremony, reflection, and soul journey featuring shamanic work that will bring their journey through the program to a close. 2
Programs (cont d) Women s Intensive Outpatient Program The Women s Intensive Outpatient Program is for women who are living in safe sober homes during the program. The program will be the same format as the residential extended care program but spread out over more time with a 5 hour a day four day a week format that allows for time at home with children and partners as well as working in some cases. Session time is 80 or more hours a month until the client and staff agree that the client has finished the program (usually between 3 to 6 months). Outpatient This program is convenient for those looking for a different treatment program alternative. The Co-Ed OP Program consists of 36 or more hours each month for a total of 108 hours during the three month program. This program features all the modalities of Gateways to Transformation with a more flexible commitment for clients. Residential Gateways to Transformation provides residential long-term care for women facing trauma, substance abuse, and eating disorders. The program combines the latest psychological methods with mind-body-spirit programming including equine psychotherapy, and riding therapy, art therapy, DBT, CBT, neuroscience, community and nutrition in a customizable way. Treatment varies by individual and is a minimum of 3 months. The program standard consists of 160 or more hours in-session each month in-house 24 hour residential care, and several kinds of support meetings attended weekly. 3

Equine Therapy Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is an emerging treatment modality that utilizes horse-handling activities to generate powerful therapeutic metaphors that reflect how each young woman relates to herself and others. With the support of peers and Gateways equine specialist and attending clinical therapist, women examine these metaphors to gain insight into their fears, habits, and unconscious ways of relating. As issues arise within the equine setting, students have en-vivo experience opportunities to work toward the understanding and healing of those issues. Therapeutic Horseback Riding is a form of physical and mental health therapy for people who have a range of disabilities including physical, emotional, cognitive, and social difficulties. Horses provide a tool for physical therapy, emotional growth, and cognitive improvement in a unique format that is fun, exhilarating, and sometimes has the power to change a person s perspective on life! Besides the physical benefits derived from therapeutic riding, the contact with the animal is a powerful experience, and the strong bond that is usually experienced has a profound, uplifting effect on people who are troubled or suffering. ANGER CHEMICAL AND ALCOHOL ABUSE EATING DISORDERS TRAUMA POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER HEAD INJURY EXTENDED GRIEF ANXIETY ATTACKS AND PHOBIAS Because the gait of a horse when walking is a gentle, repetitive movement, it moves the rider s body in a way that is very similar to the human gait; riders, as well as the mental health aspects of riding, often achieve greater flexibility, muscle strength, and balance. This type of therapy can improve balance, posture, mobility, reactive time, as well as improve problems such as emotional, cognitive, behavioral, communicative, and social malfunction. Many riders, both able-bodied and those with challenges to overcome, form a strong connection to the horse that they cannot get from most sports. For individuals with emotional problems, the unique relationship that is formed with the horse can result in increased confidence, self-esteem, and patience. The sense of wonder and independence that is experienced while riding on a horse is universally beneficial. 4
Holistic and Uniqiue Gateways to Transformation is unique because of our holistic approach to everything that we do. Clients that choose Gateways to Transformation will spend their time here treating their whole person. No one is just a case each person is a unique individual and using our interactive and co-creative program each client creates their own form of treatment using the many tools that we have available. Although our emphasis is on the equine therapy, we have many tools to help each person create and manifest a new life for themselves that is free of addiction and trauma. Gateways to Transformation is committed to creating holistic and unique programs for each client. It s what makes us different and creates long-term, life long success for each client that chooses our program. The Gateway to a new YOU! 5
Other Services Interventions Gateways to Transformation provides intervention services for families struggling with a loved one who is in immediate need of treatment but may be unwilling to go without the insistence of the family. The specialists at Gateways to Transformation will navigate the family through the proces of setting up the intervention, counsel the family on the available treatment options, coordinate getting the potential client enrolled in treatment and help with the family to hold the boundaries they need in order to get their loved one the treatment that they need. Gateways to Transformation offers interventions for: Eating Disorders Substance Abuse We offer interventions in the Denver/Boulder metro area and throughout Colorado 6 Sober Companion Gateways to Transformation is excited to offer sober companion services to the community. A sober companinion provides one-on-one assistance to newly recovering drug addicts and alcoholics. This program helps clients (even from other facilities) in the early stages of recovery. Although this may sound similar to a sponsor (AA term) it is different because not only are they working together to prevent relapse they are working co-creatively to work on healthy life habits and skills that create long-term success. Sober Companions help support the newly-recovered in the community, at their home, at family and other events, as well as helping them continue their treatment by (in some cases) helping them get to and from treatment. Anytime someone doesn t feel safe, a sober companion is there to help them solidify their recovery creating life-long
