What types of treatment do you offer and how long do they last? Residential programs are structured for approximately days. In our residential programs, clients live on campus in a structured yet comfortable therapeutic setting. During this time they attend individual and group sessions with master s-level therapists, counselors, peers, and support staff. The 12-step approach to sobriety is offered along with other coping skills that help clients overcome barriers and begin living productive, sober lives. Our Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) last six to eight weeks, during which clients live at home and commute to the program facility for treatment. In IOP, clients attend one individual and two group sessions per week; each session lasts three hours. Our Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs) last two weeks and include five hours of programming each day for five days per week. These clients live at home while receiving intensive individual and group therapy for substance abuse and/or co-occurring issues. Whom do you treat at your facilities? In Texas, we treat adolescents and adults for substance abuse and/or co-occurring issues such as depression and anxiety. We offer: Two residential programs for teens: Phoenix House of Austin is a male-only facility with two separate programs: one treats adolescent males ages Dallas Feinberg Academy is a co-ed facility with separate male and female programs for adolescents ages One young adult program at Phoenix House of Austin for males who are struggling with substance abuse and/or co-occurring issues. Outpatient services in Houston for both adults and adolescents: Partial Hospitalization Program for adults Specialized Women s Intensive Outpatient Program Intensive Outpatient Program for both adults and adolescents Adult and adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs in both our Austin and Dallas locations. Are there any disorders that disqualify a person from being admitted to Phoenix House? Severe mental illness that is not controlled with medication Recent suicide attempt Homicidal ideation Primary eating disorders Active psychosis How do I make an appointment and get approved for admission? Please call to schedule an assessment with a professional who will help determine what level of care is right for you. We will then recommend the type of program that best fits your needs and either assist with scheduling Phoenix House enrollment or make recommendations for another treatment provider. Does your program admit clients 24/7? We can easily accommodate an admission from 8am until 8pm, but outside of those hours, an appointment will need to be scheduled. Is parking available at your facilities? Yes.

Can I earn academic credits while I m in treatment? At both of our adolescent residential Academies in Texas, we offer recovery programs and academic education that is accredited and supported by teachers from the local school districts (Austin Independent School District and Dallas Independent School District). The Academy model allows clients to either continue with their current coursework without penalty, or to make up / recover any failed coursework so they will not be behind when rejoining their home school. At your Academies, how many hours per day are devoted to school? We offer three hours of coursework per day during the summer and four hours per day during the school year. My child smokes marijuana; how do I know if this is a problem? The first place to start is with a comprehensive assessment. Trained, master s-level clinicians will be able to provide a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment that will help determine if marijuana use is a problem and what would be the best course of treatment. My loved one suffers from depression as well as drug abuse. Can you still help him/her? delivers not only substance abuse treatment, but therapy for mental health problems as well. We utilize cognitive behavioral therapy or a traumainformed therapeutic approach depending on the needs of the client. Besides counseling, what other activities and services do you offer? At our Phoenix House programs in Texas, in addition to master s-level therapy for individual clients and some group sessions, we offer meditation, yoga, a wonderful courtyard for outdoor activities, the Phoenix Rising Music Program (music composition, performance, recording, and mixing with expert support), supervised outings, and movie nights. My family member will be discharged from another treatment program. They suggested step-down services. What are those, and can I get them at your program? Step-down refers to any services that are considered a lower level of care. The level of care system in substance abuse treatment usually includes but is not limited to: Acute care / detox / inpatient: when you need crisis stabilization or detox. Residential care: when you live at the facility while getting treatment. Partial Hospitalization Program: when you live at home and attend a day program every weekday, usually five to six hours per day of individual, group, and family therapy. Intensive Outpatient Program: when you live at home and attend two group sessions and one individual session per week, each lasting three hours. Supportive Outpatient Program: when you live at home and participate in two days of group therapy per week. This type of care is usually only offered through public funding. Outpatient Therapy: when you live at home and see a therapist once a week, or as prescribed, for an individual or group session. offers residential care, Partial Hospitalization Programs, and Intensive Outpatient Programs in certain areas across Texas.

What is your philosophy regarding 12-step programs such as AA? We actively participate in 12-step programming and encourage alumni to participate in meetings, but Phoenix Houses of Texas also approaches substance abuse treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy as well as traumainformed therapy. Where will I live while in treatment? If you are in our residential level of care, you will live on one of our campuses while participating in our programs. If you are in outpatient treatment, you will live at home and come to our facility at the time of your group or individual sessions. Do your programs provide food for people with special medical diets (diabetes, high blood pressure) and / or religious / lifestyle preferences? We can accommodate most dietary restrictions. Please request prior to admission. Will I have a roommate? Yes, you will have a roommate; there are no single rooms at locations except in extreme circumstances. Will I be able to continue working or go to school while in treatment? In order to remove as many distractions as possible, you will not be able to participate in work while in residential treatment with. At both of our residential treatment programs, we offer credit recovery courses for adolescents who need to either catch up on failed coursework or who want to continue with current curriculum. What if I miss an outpatient session? It is courteous to let the therapist know ahead of time if you will not be attending a session. Depending on your funding source, you could be required to attend in consecutive sessions so you may lose coverage for a session if you do not show up. Some insurance plans, however, will cover a certain number of sessions within a given period, either consecutive or non-consecutive. What if I feel I need more help once I have completed treatment? Phoenix House will do everything possible to prepare you for life after treatment. We will also make recommendations for continuing care after you leave Phoenix House; we highly suggest you follow these recommendations in order to continue your progress. What if my child gets sick while he/she is in treatment? At, we offer medical and dental attention as necessary during treatment.

About Insurance and Payment Do your programs accept insurance? Yes, we accept all major insurances and are in-network with the following commercial plans: Aetna Blue Cross / Blue Shield Cigna Humana Seton United Behavioral Health We also accept some managed Medicaid, CHIP, Department of State Health Services, and Northstar accounts. What is the cost of treatment? The cost of treatment varies depending on the funding sources that are available to you. Please call our local call center at and we can discuss cost of treatment for adolescent (13 17) and young adult (18 25) residential programs as well as all outpatient programs. About Our Credentials/Licensing Is your program licensed / accredited? Yes, we are licensed through the Texas Department of State Health Services as a substance abuse treatment facility. We also are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). For more information about CARF, click here. What type of professionals will be working with my loved one? At Phoenix House, we employ master s-level clinicians as the primary therapists for all of our clients. We have a psychiatrist on staff for medication management, and our medical director and nurse oversee medical issues. We also employ recovery specialists, including: Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC), professionals who are currently working on their treatment certifications, and individuals who are in recovery themselves and have dedicated their lives to supporting our direct care staff. I need treatment, but have no insurance. Can you still help me? Our programs in Texas accept almost all forms of payment. We not only accept private insurance but also self-pay and most forms of public insurance such as managed Medicaid plans, Children s Health Insurance Plans, Department of State and Human Services funding, as well as NorthStar in select counties. On occasion there are also opportunities for scholarships donated by our generous supporters.

About Family Participation How are family members involved in treatment? Our residential programs include weekly family sessions where loved ones participate in family therapy with the client s primary therapist. On weekends, we offer a family program with multi-family group sessions, substance abuse education, Al-Anon meetings, and client visitation. All of our outpatient programs include one family session per week. We may also recommend programs or classes for the entire family to help support the client s continued recovery once they return home. How do I keep updated on my loved one s progress and am I allowed to visit? will provide a primary therapist who will facilitate your weekly family sessions (once per week) and update you at that time. You may also have a care manager who works as a liaison for your family and the program. You are also scheduled to have one family visitation per week. What is the client-to-counselor ratio? Our client-to-therapist ratio is not more than ten clients to a caseload. Our client-to-counselor ratio is eight to one during daylight hours and sixteen to one at night. I m going to a residential program. What should I pack? About Treatment Program Policies What are the rules at your facilities? Every family and client will be given a handbook on what to expect and how to behave while in treatment. Can I smoke while in treatment? As part of our efforts to encourage a healthy lifestyle, all are non-smoking facilities. Will I be able to use the phone while in treatment? Can I receive calls? Calls are a privilege during treatment. You will be allowed a certain number of calls per week (usually 1 or 2) with approved people only. As you show progress during the program you will gain privileges, including an addition to your weekly calls or even an addition to your approved phone list. This will be decided upon by your individual treatment team. Are your treatment facilities locked? No, our treatment facilities are not locked. In order for clients to truly embrace treatment, they need to come somewhat willingly. As a safety precaution, we do have alarms on our doors and night staff who have been trained in de-escalation techniques. Please see the downloadable packing list on our website.
