10 D i s c o v e r y i n R e c o v e r y CFD sets itself apart by providing Discovery in Recovery DD and ED Programs FREE to all residents, their families, and members of the community seeking support with adolescents struggling with substance abuse and eating disorders. This unique program consists of Parent and Young People s support group meetings run by counselors at various locations throughout the West Coast. The Discovery in Recovery Dual Diagnosis Program utilizes the philosophies of AA/NA and Al-anon. CFD in-house residents and their parents attend these meetings and become active alumni members when they discharge. CFD has a dedicated Discovery in Recovery Coordinator who meets with the resident while in treatment specifically to inspire a life of recovery. The Discovery in Recovery Coordinator develops an individualized 12 Step meeting plan and connects the resident with recovering peers in their home town as well as introduces them to a calendar of sober events. The Discovery in Recovery Eating Disorder Program provides a place for our ED alumni and their families to receive continued weekly support. CFD has a dedicated team of ED professionals available to offer special in-services and lectures to expand the understanding of this disorder. CFD understands that one of the key guarantors of success after residential treatment is having a viable support system in place at discharge. Discovery in Recovery can be an integral part of that system.
11 I am so grateful to Center for Discovery and for their complete support of an Alumni Group for the kids that leave their support and treatment and return to their communities to begin a new life. So many times, kids return to the same challenges and stresses they faced before they received treatment. CFD Alumni groups give teens a safe place to make new friends and share their successes and challenges with people who truly understand and support them in their new commitments. As parents we look forward to the parent groups offered each week. Just like our children, we receive so much support from other parents who face the same questions and challenges in parenting dually diagnosed teens that we do. We are able to support and encourage one another. Working the 12 steps ourselves, we find new meaning and enjoyment in our families. A pleasure that so often left many of us far behind when our children found themselves in the snare of addictions. Thank you seems so inadequate. If only we had more programs like this for other families. It has been pure gold to mine. Parent of CFD Alum

It was a hard road to travel, but I couldn t have done it without the love and support of a caring staff. Oceanaire Client M We will always be grateful to the Center for Discovery for turning our daughter s life around. We took her there last summer in desperation because we couldn t keep her safe at home. She was engaged in a lot of selfdestructive behaviors, including drugs/alcohol, and was very depressed Therapy at the CFD worked for our daughter and for us for the first time The family therapy at the CFD worked for all of us, and we re still using the behavioral contract we worked out at the CFD.
