2 A Passion to Serve Honesty, sound judgment, integrity, and a sense of responsibility are essential characteristics for an individual who desires to pursue a career in the Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security Career Cluster. Professionals in this field must be prepared to plan, manage, and provide legal, public safety, and protective services as well as to address issues related to homeland security. As a successful professional in this cluster, you should demonstrate: - initiative, mental alertness, self-discipline; - good research, organization, and investigative skills; - desire to remain up-to-date on developments in the laws or practices that affect your field; - ethical standards; - the ability to work under hazardous conditions and through long, irregular hours; and - dependability and the ability to get along well with others. I always dreamed of helping others and making a difference. Criminal Justice has given me that opportunity. It s the perfect career for me. I know I might not be able to save the whole world, but I can make it a better place to live for everyone. Yazmin Gamez Criminal Justice Major Active partnerships with area and state professional organizations ensure that your desired program of study is not only relevant to industry needs and expectations, but also that you have a direct connection to your future employer.
